    Dear George Block

    I refer to your request of 28 August 2020, to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and
    Employment, requesting in part under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA), the following:

    The number of staff at managed isolation or quarantine facilities (hereafter MIQs)


    investigated for alleged misconduct broken down by date, managed isolation facility,
    the nature of misconduct whether the misconduct was upheld, any disciplinary action
    taken, and the nature of the staff member (e.g. NZDF staff member, private security
    guard etc). For example, a table row in the response would take the following format:
    28/8/2020 I Rydges Hotel I falling asleep at post I upheld I formal warning I private
    security guard.
    An overview of instances where staff at M/Qs were investigated for alleged personal
    impropriety with guests (returnees), broken down by date, managed isolation facility, the
    nature of misconduct, whether the misconduct was upheld, any disciplinary action taken,
    and the nature of the staff member (e.g. NZDF staff member, private security guard etc).
    For example, a table row in the response would take the following format: 28/8/2020 I
    Rydges Hotel I inappropriate physical and emotional relationship with guest (returnee) I
    upheld I employment terminated I private security guard.
    These parts of your request were transferred to the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) for a
    response. The requested information, as it relates to NZDF personnel, is provided in the
    enclosed table. You have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to ask an Ombudsman to
    review this response to your request.

    civilian security guards. charge(s) under the AFDA . Individual
    deemed unsuitable for further
    participation in Operation PROTECT.

    09 November 2020 I Novotel Ellerslie, I NZDF security staff member Upheld Individual immediately removed I NZDF
    Auckland passed a returnee a note from task and returned to Unit.
    which included the staff Charged under the AFDA .
