Heat recovery plate What is heat pipe

Aluminum wheel with hygroscopic surface A heat pipe is an extremely efficient conductor of heat
Galvanized steel casing By using the latent capacity of the fluid
High sensible heat & total heat transfer eg. Refrigerant the heat pipe transfers heat at a very high rate
Basic principle of operation Heat Heat
out out
A simple heat pipe comprises a hallow tube partly filled with a working fluid
Using the latent capacity of the fluid, we can transfer large amounts of heat very rapidly
from a hot point to a cold point on the tube wall.

‘Horseshoe’ heat pipe Heat recovery

“Horseshoe” heat pipe are used either for original supply or for retrofit ℃ application Used to transfer heat between supply & exhaust air streams where:-
The unit will be installed around a cooling coil There is a large difference between supply and exhaust temperature
Heat pipe effect There are high air volumes involved.
Efficiencies of up to 65% can be achieved giving significant energy savings
Basic design features
The heat pipe unit straddles the supply and exhaust ducts
A centre tube plate prevents cross contamination between airflows.
Variable No pump requirement to transfer the heat as with a run around coil system

High Latent Heat

Latent heat is the amount of energy absorbed as a given mass of the fluid changes phase
Why do we get better results using water as a working fluid? from liquid to vapour.

Higher latent heat gives better heat transporting capacity of the working fluid

The latent heat of water is approximately 14 times that of R134a, accordingly there is 14
times less mass transfer required to transfer the same heat between the ends of the heat
pipe.

Flange adapter Pipe End Gap

Following the installation of the coupling, a
Hinged for easy handling pipe end gap is formed. A pipe end gap
helps in reducing the vibration transmission
Small teeth prevent rotation across the pipe joint

Gasket
A resilient elastomeric gasket conforms
to the internal cavity of the coupling
housing and
seals against the pipe. It
is pressure responsive and creates a
permanent leak-tight seal. The gasket
having full circumferential contact with
Flange adapter nipple the coupling housing and both pipe
ends dampens the vibration and
dissipates the mechanical energy

Groove
The exible coupling key engages the
groove but does not clamp the pipe,
which allows for linear and angular
movement within the pipe joint. This
feature also assists in attenuating
vibration across the pipe joint
