CRS JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Project Assistant (MEAL Assistant)


Department: Programs
Band: 4
Reports To: Project Manager (LDS-DERP)
Country/Location: Zimbabwe, Harare

Country Background
CRS has been supporting program activities in Zimbabwe since 1989 and has long-standing
relationships with Church and non-Church partners and communities throughout the country.
Zimbabwe program implements projects through 14 partner organizations in 30 districts in the
areas of health, OVC, education, food security and agricultural livelihoods, and peacebuilding. 

Job Summary:
As part of the country program MEAL team, you will provide service in the day-to-day delivery
of responsive, effective and efficient project administrative activities in support of the Catholic
Relief Services’ (CRS) mission to serve the poor and vulnerable. You will provide consistent and
high-quality service and contribute to the proper stewardship of project resources to help
ensure operational effectiveness in support of high-quality programming.

Job Responsibilities:
 Collects quality data using MEAL tools on a timely basis.
 Works with field data collection officers/enumerators and assists with simple data analyses
 Provides input to MEAL system design and review discussions
 Contributes initial findings and field-based insights to project discussions
 Contributes to reflective community-based conversations on ongoing project interventions
 Shares insights and perspectives based on observations and interactions with community
members, colleagues and stakeholders
 Supports compliance with agency and donor MEAL requirements
 Manages database (where available) to ensure accessibility and reliability of information
 Fosters respectful relationships with community members and stakeholders
 Support travel and logistics arrangements for MEAL staff and hired consultants.

Typical Background, Experience & Requirements:


Education and Experience
 Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Operations Research, Development Studies or related
programs.
 Two years’ experience working in monitoring and evaluation, and research.
 Experience with a local or international NGO a plus.
 Additional education may substitute for some experience.
 Experience in participatory action planning and community engagement.
 Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), (SPSS,
Databases, GIS)

 Observation, active listening and analysis skills with ability to make sound judgment
 Good relationship management skills with ability to work collaboratively as part of a
multidisciplinary and multicultural teams
 Good relationship management skills and the ability to work closely with local partners and
community members
 Attention to details, accuracy and timeliness in executing assigned responsibilities
 Proactive, results-oriented and service-oriented

Travel Required (Willingness to travel 25% to field locations)

Supervisory: Nil
Internal: Project Managers; other MEAL staff, MEAL Community of Practice, Operations
staff
External: CRS implementing partners, other NGOs, local authorities, research institutions,
universities
