THE DIFFERENCES ROLE OF SAFETY AND HEALTH
ORGANIZATION IN MALAYSIA:

a) Department of Safety and Health (DOSH)


b) National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
c) Social Security Organization (SOCSO)
DOSH
• Department of Occupational Safety and Health
• To provide a safe and health work environment for all its employees and to
protect other who may be affected by its activities.
• Known as the Jabatan Keselamatan dan Kesihatan Pekerjaan
ROLE
• To prepare and preserve a workplace with a safe and health working
system.
• To ensure all staff are provided with the relevant information, training and
supervision regarding methods to carry out their duties in a safe manner
and without causing any risk to health.
• To investigate all accidents, diseases, poisonous and/or dangerous
occurrences, and to have action to ensure that these occurrences will not
be repeated
• To comply with all requirements of legislation related to safety and health
as stated in the Occupation Safety and Health Act 1994, as well as
regulation and codes of practice which have been approved.
• To provide basic welfare facilities to all workers
• To revise and improve on this policy whenever necessary
NIOSH
• The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
• Federal agency responsible for conducting research and making
recommendations for the prevention of work-related injury and illness.
• Part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the
Department of Health and Human Services.
ROLE
• Generate new knowledge in the field of occupational safety and health
• Transfer that knowledge into practice for the betterment of workers.
• An agency established to help assure safe and healthful working conditions
for working men and women (by providing research, information,
education, and training in the field of occupational safety and health.)
• Prevent work-related illness, injury, disability, and death by gathering
information, conducting scientific research, and translating the knowledge
gained into products and services for improving safety and health.
SOCSO
• The Social Security Organization (SOCSO)
• An organization set up to administer, enforce and implement the
Employees’ Social Security Act, 1969 and the Employees Social Security
(General) Regulation 1971.
• Commonly known as Perkeso or Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial in Malay
term.
• Employees with a monthly income of RM3000 and below, along with their
employees are required to make contributions.
ROLE

• Provide social security protection by social insurance including medical,


cash benefits, provision of artificial aids and rehabilitation to employees to
reduce the sufferings.
• Provides social security protection by social insurance including medical
and cash benefits.
• Provision of artificial aids and rehabilitation to employees to reduce the
suffering and provide financial guarantees and protection to the family
DIFFERENCES
DOSH Provide a safe and health work environment for all its employees and to

NIOSH Responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the
