WEEK 2

INTRODUCTION:
LOGO DESIGN

Anywhere you go and anything you touch you will see symbols
or a brand names that has a design and it is called logo. This graphic mark is
intended for identification and recognition that is essential to the growing
market we have.
In this lesson you will learn about digital logo that will help you to
utilize your art skills using new technologies (Hardware and Software). There
are several art activities that is lined for a study of logo. In this activities you are
allowed to apply knowledge and skills, and appreciate the unique process
involved in designing logos.

OBJECTIVE:

In this lesson you should be able to:


Utilize art skills in using new technologies ( hardware and
software)

VOCABULARY:

Before you start, you need to know the meaning of some


unfamiliar words that you will encounter in this lesson. Are you
READY?

Logo – a common symbols that are used to identify a family,


country or organization.

Graphics tablet and pen – an input device consisting of a flat,


pressure-sensitive pad which the user draws on or points
at with a special stylus, to guide a pointer displayed on
the screen.

Flatbed scanner - it is a device that optically scan images,


printed text, handwriting or an object and converts
it into a digital image.

Computer –an electronic device for storing and
processing data typically in binary form, according
to instructions given to it in a variable program

In this phase, you will be given a 5 item test to check how much
you already knew about the topics.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

Logos are among the most common symbols in our visual


environment. We see them on the Web, Billboards, Newspaper, and Magazine.
They are printed on clothes, buses, notebooks, and so on. Many of these logos
have become famous and are delight to see.

A well - designed logos makes an impact on our eyes and minds.


On the most basic level, logos are symbols. Each word, font, color, shape, or
image in a great logos means or represents something. Logos like symbols,
convey a message, information, or embody ideas about that which it
represents.
There are basic steps that you need to know in creating digital logo.

BASIC STEPS IN CREATING DIGITAL LOGO

1. Visualize and Sketch Ideas – when ideas present themselves, sketch


them immediately. When they do not present themselves, stop sketching
and work something else. Give your mind a chance to refresh itself. When
you are ready to resume work, sketch other options.

2. Scan to digitize or make the image appear on the computer screen


– Scan the sketch to a flash drive as a digital image. You need a
basic piece of equipment known as scanner. It is as essential tool
to all logo designer who need to alter the enhanced their designs
digitally.

3. Get started with image program (Computer Application /


Inkscape) – software program that used to create digital logos. It
is an open source and can be learned easily.

With the toolbars with full of features will helps you in making logo.

Here are the main tools and what they do.

1. Move Tool – this tool move around the objects with in a layer. To move the
entire image, flatten the layers by selecting ALL LAYERS at the top of the
window.

2. Marquee Tool – this is a group of tools that allows you to select rectangles,
ellipses, circles, and squares

3. Lasso Tool – this tool can select areas within a layer that cannot be reached
with the Marquee Tool.

4. Crop Tool – this tool changes the size of the image. To use, select the
area you want to crop and press enter.

5. Pencil tool ad Brush Tool – these tool draw or paint a line. Change the
colour of the paint brush by clicking on the colour picker

6. Clone or Rubber Stamp Tool – use this to replicate the same pattern or
image.

7. Eraser Tool – this can erase part of the image in a certain layer. To erase
everything in a certain area, flatten the image or go through every layer to
delete that part.

8. Gradient Tool – use this to highlight a colour and make it fade from dark to
light.

9. Blur Tool - use this tool to soften sharp edges

10. Dodge Toll – it lightens an image. To use, drag the icon over the image you
want to lighten.

DODGE TOOL

11. Pen Tool – it makes the line and can be used with shape tools to create
different shapes. To create lines, use the Pen Tool to create anchors (little
box in the line) and change the shape of the line by moving around the
anchors.

12. Type Tool – it puts text in a picture. Click on the picture with the Type Tool
and select a box the size of the area you want to add.

13. Hand Tool – this tool moves around an image within an object. Use the
zoom tool when you want to adjust the section of picture you want to look
at.

14. Zoom Tool – zoom in on part of the picture for closer editing
