    A letter is a written means of communication used to inform, enquire or exchange ideas and

    opinions.

    There are two types of letters: Informal Letters and Formal Letters.

    Friendly letters/ Informal Letters

    Format-

    • Sender’s address

    • Date

    • Salutation

    • Opening Paragraph

    • Body 

    • Concluding Paragraph

    • Subscription

    • Writer’s first name

    Sub:-Importance of administering first aid in case of an emergency

    Sir,
    May I have the honour to draw the attention of the authorities and the people through the column of
    your newspaper about the importance of knowing first aid. Today, a child met with an accident near the
    school gate. Many people were standing around but did not know what to do. Finally, the child was
    carried to the hospital by a taxi driver. Teachers and school authorities should be made aware of primary
    steps of first aid in school. It should be included in the school curriculum.

    At the same time, they should have their own mini first aid box at home. Parents should encourage their
    children for this purpose. They should know what to do in such situations before the victim is carried to
    the hospital. At times, the first aid can be life saving. The government and the concerned educational
    authorities should initiate a step towards this.

    who is a renowned singer, asking for guidance on how to prepare for the inter-school singing
    competition.

    c) Write a letter to your father who is working abroad, enquiring about his well-bring and informing him
    about your progress in academics and co-curricular activities.

    Write a formal letter on the following topics in about 100-120 words.

    a) The drainage system in your locality has not been cleaned for a long time. It has been raining heavily
    for two days due to which there is water logging in your lane. Write a letter to the municipal authorities
    requesting them to take immediate action.

    b) Your school’s PE teacher has taken an initiative to train underprivileged children to play football every
    day after school hours. Write a mail to him appreciating his efforts and showing your interest to
    volunteer for this initiative.

    c) You are the Head Boy/Head Girl of your school. Write a letter to ‘Celebrations Pvt Ltd’ to place an
    order for snacks, decorations and gifts for Teacher’s Day celebration in your school.
