    1. (a) (i) Explain the term fire place in relation to buildings. (1mark)
    (ii) State any three principal requirements of a fire place and flue. (3marks)
    (iii) Describe three factors that can prevent the chimney operating satisfactorily.

    (b) With aid of a sketch, shows a vertical sectional elevation through an open fire

    (c) Using a labeled sketch, show in plan the treatment carried out around the chimney
    stack in pitched roofs. (6marks)
    (d) Illustrate the following terms in relation to fireplaces.
