Course Summary:

Here at the University of Reading, you will blend practical work with the
theoretical study of lm from the late nineteenth century to the modern day,
including world cinema, avant-garde and experimental lmmaking. You will
also explore the cinema of classical and contemporary Hollywood, together
with new forms of digital entertainment and video art.

Alongside this, you can investigate television from its origins in the mid-
twentieth century to contemporary engagements with new media and digital
platforms, from soap opera to sitcom to sci- , exploring questions of
authorship, genre and audience.

The focus is on your development into a critically informed lmmaker. You will
gain academic knowledge and practical skills, with opportunities to
collaborate on lms and television programmes in the nal two years. In
addition to learning the histories and meanings of lm, you will receive
technical training in a range of creative techniques, such as editing, sound and
lighting design, and television studio production.

Course Summary:

ScreenSpace is in an industry focused degree in content creation, delivered in


partnership by MetFilm School and the University of West London.

Each semester has a different theme and explores a different relationship with
the audience: from documentary and social impact lmmaking, to TV ction,
online branded content campaigns and data and analytics. Students work
across all aspects of production, from camerawork editing, sound and
producing, learning how to make content for a range of different platforms.

Every semester has a different industry partner who sets a production brief for
the students to work towards. This means students leave with a degree, a
portfolio of professional content, cutting-edge media production skills and
industry experience delivered by tutors who are working as media professionals
across the creative industries.

ScreenSpace is based at the MetFilm School campus in Ealing Studios and the
University of West London. Our facilities include a number of shooting spaces,
classrooms, and collaborative spaces.

Course Summary:

BA(Hons) Filmmaking is based at Bower Ashton Studios, part of the City


Campus. This is a production-based degree - you’ll learn by making. Our
teaching team works at the cutting edge of contemporary media practice,
with high levels of practical experience and expertise.

The course pushes boundaries, intellectually and imaginatively. Explore


lmmaking for the 21st century through development of eclectic short form
projects that span the vast opportunities for audience and presentation in the
modern industry. Build the knowledge to navigate the industry as it changes
over the next 10 to 20 years by applying cutting-edge techniques.

Our industry contacts include the BBC, ITV, Aardman Films@59, Bottleyard
