4. NUMBERING INSTRUCTIONS

4.1 Page Numbering

All pages numbers (whether it be in Roman or Arabic numbers) should be typed Bottom
centered with font size 12, Times New Roman.
The preliminary pages of the thesis (such as Title page, Bonafide Certificate,
Acknowledgement, Table of Contents etc.) should be numbered in lower case Roman numerals.
The title page will be numbered as (i) but this should not be typed. The page
immediately following the title page shall be numbered (ii) and next page (iii) etc..
Pages of main text, starting with Chapter 1 should be consecutively numbered using
Arabic numerals (1,2,…..)

4.2 Numbering of Tables and Figures

Tables and Figures appearing anywhere in the thesis should bear appropriate numbers.
The rule for assigning such numbers is illustrated through an example. Thus, if a figure in
Chapter 3, happens to be the fourth then assign 3.4 to that figure. Identical rules apply for tables
except that the word Figure is replaced by the word Table. A table continued into the next page
should have a caption like, Table 2.1 (continued), placed centrally and underlined.
4.3 Numbering of Equations
Equations appearing in each Chapter or Appendix should be numbered serially, the
numbering shall commence freshly for each Chapter or Appendix. Thus for example, an
equation appearing in Chapter 2, if it happens to be the eighth equation in that Chapter should
be numbered (2.8), while referring to this equation in the body of the text it should be referred
to as Equation (2.8).

5.0 NUMBER OF COPIES TO BE SUBMITTED FOR EVALUATION:

Seven copies are to be submitted to the department where the student is studying
(one copy to each student in the batch, one copy to supervisor, one copy to Department library
& one copy to Main Library), if four student in the batch.

6.0 SIZE OF REPORT:

The size of report should not be less than 40 pages (with more emphasis on results and
discussions) of typed matter reckoned from the first page of Chapter 1 to the last page of the
Appendix.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
<Font Style Times New Roman – size -16>

We would like to express our gratitude to all the people behind the screen who
helped me to transform an idea into a real application.
We would like to express our heart-felt gratitude to our parents without whom we
would not have been privileged to achieve and fulfil our dreams. We are grateful to our
Principal, Dr. K. Prakash who mostly ably run the institution and has had the major hand in
enabling me to do our project.
We profoundly thank Dr. R. Bharathi Murugan, Head of the Department of Civil
Engineering who has been an excellent guide and also a Great source of inspiration to our work.
We would like to thank our supervisor Name, Designation, Department of Civil
Engineering, Vaagdevi College of Engineering, for his technical guidance, constant
encouragement and support in carrying out our project at college.
This satisfaction and euphoria that accompany the successful completion of the task
would be great but incomplete without the mention of the people who made it possible with
their constant guidance and encouragement crowns all the efforts with success. In this context,
I would like to thank all the other staff members, both teaching and non-teaching, who have
extended their timely help and eased my task.
