BHT consists of solid white or light yellow particles that look similar to sugar granules. BHT
is used as one of the dry additives in finished polymer. You may come in contact with BHT
at the additive hoppers and feeders in the Finishing Extruder Area. BHT is also stored in
fiber drums located in the warehouse.
BHT is subject to dust explosions when exposed to extreme heat or electric arcs.

• Wear PPE:
- dust mask or respirator
- impervious rubber gloves
- safety glasses/goggles
- paper coveralls
• Use carbon dioxide, dry chemical, foam or water spray to fight fires. Wear self-
contained breathing apparatus.
