<TEA & TEB>
1 of 2
TEA (triethylaluminum) and TEB (triethylborane) are pyrophoric cocatalysts that act as
scavengers in Plant VI reactors (see also "DEZ"). TEA and TEB are both clear, colorless
liquids.
These substances are present in the reactors, cocatalyst tanks and storage tanks. TEA
and TEB are contained in large 450-gallon cylinders. These cylinders are delivered to the
Reactor Area on fork trucks. Identify cylinder contents by reading the identification label.
The word pyrophoric describes a substance that ignites spontaneously on contact with
air. Exposure to TEA and TEB may cause severe thermal and chemical burns.
<PRECAUTIONS>
• Wear aluminum fire suit with full face shield when transferring from cylinder to
storage tank.
