Heading (pravac) is used to describe the direction a ship is pointing. In contrast, the course (kurs) angle refers to the
direction a ship is actually moving.
- track- The line of a ship's course through the water (ruta, put)
- Rhumb line(loxodrome)- an imaginary line on the earth's surface cutting all meridians at the same angle, used as the
standard method of plotting a ship's course on a chart.(loksodroma)
* rhumb /rʌm/
NAVIGATING TECHNIQUES:
Ship's position is: determined, fixed, found, calculated....
Pilotage(coastal navigation)- ability to determine the ship's position by use of: landmarks, aids to navigation,
including lighthouses, beacons and buoys, dead reckoning; taking into account winds, tides, currents and
estimated speed.(terestrička navigacija)
Celestial(astronomical navigation) makes use of the observed positions of celestial bodies to determine a
navigator’s position (astronomska navigacija)
Dead Reckoning is the process by which one’s current position is calculated based on/using a previously
obtained position. A previously determined position can also be termed as a fix; the estimated speed and the
course are applied to that fix to obtain a DR. (zbrojena pozicija)
Running Fix - determination of a ship’s position made by taking bearings of one consipicuous object at different
times.(pozicija broda određena opažanjem jednog objekta u razmaku vremena)
Satellite/Radio navigation – determenation of a ship's position using the data sent from the satellite
* pilotage /ˈpʌɪlətɪdʒ/
- bearing- azimut
- intersection- presjecanje
DEPTHS:
- shoal-a place where a sea, river, or other body of water is shallow. Shoals are also known as sandbanks, sandbars
(plidina, pješčani sprud…)
- draft(draught) – the distance from the waterline to the bottom of the ship ( gaz)
- shallow draft vessel- a vessel whose keel is not far below the waterline (brod malog gaza)
- swell- a slow, regular movement of the sea in rolling waves that do not break (mrtvo more, talasi mrtvog mora)
increase #decrease
- time ellapsed- the amount of time that passes from the start of an event to its end. (proteklo vrijeme)
