MODULE 9
What Can You Recommend?
(Formulates Recommendations Based on Conclusions)

Hello! It’s me again, Teacher Corry.

Welcome back to the English class.
Today, you will learn how to define recommendation and write actual
recommendations.
Come! Join me once again in exploring our lesson.

Specifically, after working on this module, you should be able to

formulate recommendations based on conclusions.

YOUR READINESS CHECK

Before we start, let’s find out how much you know about this lesson.

Directions: Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if it is not. Use a
separate sheet of paper for your answers.

1. Recommendations are suggestions given by the

researchers based on the outcome of the study.

2. Conclusions come first before findings.

3. Recommendations should be based on

conclusions.

4. Researchers can give conclusions based on the

findings of the study.

5. Recommendations should be limited to three only.

How many correct answers did you get? If you earned 3 points or
above, you already have an idea about the things we need to be
familiar with in writing recommendations. However, do not be
disappointed if you get a lower score. I am here to help you until
the end of our lesson. I prepared a lot of fun activities for you!

YOUR VOCABULARY BUILDER

Congratulations! You did a great job in equipping yourself with

the necessary skills needed to further understand this lesson.
With this, exciting tasks await you in your journey.
Good luck!

YOUR INITIAL TASK

WHAT IS IT?
Identify if each statement is an example of findings, conclusion, or
recommendation.

1.The students should manage their time so that they can give equal
attention to studies and personal concerns.

2
2. Fifty percent of the respondents are using Facebook and internet for school
purposes.
3. Fifteen percent of the respondents are using Facebook and internet for
entertainment.
4. The parents should monitor their children’s use of social media.
5. Social media has identified itself as platform used not just for entertainment
but also for educational purposes.

You are smart! You have done well with the initial task! Now, it is
time to learn more about findings, conclusion, and recommendation!
Come on!

YOUR GUIDE

Findings are the principal outcomes of a research project; what the

project suggested, revealed, or indicated. These are the result of extensive and
careful analysis of the data gathered by the researchers from their sources,
whether primary or secondary. Findings are one of the most important parts of
a research because it approves or nullifies the hypotheses of the researcher.

Conclusion is the summary or synthesis of the key points of the study. It

is usually based on the findings of the research. This part of the research
enables the researcher to formulate his recommendations.

Recommendations are arguably the most important part of the analysis

phase—this is where the researcher will suggest specific interventions or
strategies to address the issues and constraints identified in the assessment.

Recommendations are based on the results of one’s research and

indicate the specific measures or directions that can be taken. For example, a
clinical study might have implications for cancer research and might
recommend against the use of a particular hazardous substance. Therefore,
implications signify the impact of one’s research and recommendations might
be concrete steps/actions that the research proposes.

Recommendations should be one-sentence, succinct, and start with an

action verb (create, establish, fund, facilitate, coordinate, etc.). They should use
a “SMART” format (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely). Each
recommendation should be followed by a few sentences of explanatory text. In
addition to being “SMART,” recommendations should be feasible.

3
Now, I guess you are ready for more challenging tasks! Let’s begin!

YOUR DISCOVERY TASK

CHOOSE WISELY!

Read the following statements and identify if it is an example of

findings, conclusion, or recommendation. Write F for findings, R for
recommendations and C for conclusions.

____________1. There are more households earning the total monthly

income ranging from Php 11,000 – Php 14, 000.
____________2. The government must create more job opportunities
and impose policies that may lead to the uplifting of
the parents’ living standards to further support their
children’s education.
____________3. For the parents, it is a must for them to communicate
and check their children often.
____________4. Teachers are advised to include strategies that all
students can participate to have more interaction with
other students.
____________5. Among the 159 father- respondents, 40- 49 years old
is the highest with the frequency of seventy- eight
percent (78%) and 60-69 years old is the lowest with
the frequency of eleven percent (11%).

You did such a wonderful job! I am very proud of you! Let us now
see how much you have learned.

LET’S SUM IT UP

A research is a systematic, careful, ang thorough investigation of a certain topic

that aims to bridge a gap, add knowledge, inform, educate, and answer ideas that give
confusion among the researchers and readers.
A problem statement or statement of the problem is an organized part of a
research which enables the researchers to systematically answer the research
questions, address the topic, thus, completing the study in a systematic manner.

4
YOUR FINAL TASK

Test 1: LET’S WRITE!

Directions: Read the following conclusions and formulate your

recommendations.

Conclusions:
Based on the findings of this study, the following conclusions
were drawn:
1. Students spend more time in browsing their
Facebook account than doing their homework first.
2. Ninety percent of the parents do not ask their
children if they have homework so they cannot
monitor if the students are doing it.
3. Eighty-eight percent of the student-respondents do
their homework at school, so they end up
cramming.

Recommendations:
1. _________________________________________________
2. _________________________________________________
3. _________________________________________________

YOUR REINFORCER

LET’S SEARCH!

Directions: Conduct a short survey within your household members according to your
preferred topic. Make a conclusion based on the findings of your survey
and from those conclusions, formulate appropriate recommendations.

5
YOUR REFLECTION/S
Why do you think appropriate recommendations are
important for a research paper?.

Congratulations!
You have once again conquered another set of challenges.
See you again in the next module.
