COMMUNICATION IN 21st CENTURY

From the very moment we open our eyes in the morning, communication starts. When
we greet to each other a “good morning”, when we ask our mother what food we are going to
eat. All of those small talks with small gestures constitutes communication. Being able to
communicate efficiently and effectively is the most important of all life skills especially for me
as a daughter, a student and an individual. Because of communication, which is the most
useful and important tool in everyday life I am able to share my thoughts about some issues.
Give some ideas and had a chance to share my knowledge and learn from them too. With
communication I can freely express my emotions and establish a good communication with
others. I just can’t imagine how I am going to survive a day without communication.
It is indeed that communication plays a vital role not only for an individual but most
especially in the society. It enables us to pass information to others, as its simplest,
communication is the act of transferring information from one place to another. There is a
saying ‘No man is an island’ meaning we cannot survive by our own self. Always bare in our
mind the fact that we need others, we need to communicate to them properly and establish a
good communication in order for us to have a good relation to them. With the help of
communication, We are able to communicate to others even if we are far from them using our
gadgets and through social media as one of the medium of communication. In our generation
now it is much easy for us to communicate with our loved ones regularly even they are far
from us with the use of social media and our modern gadgets. Communication makes the
society better, it helps people to settle some issues. Mostly especially this communication
helps the society to implement their rules or policy that will govern their community. These
communication skill will helps the society particularly the authorized person ,for example in
community in imparting reminders or announcements needed to know by the people.
Have you ever heard the saying ‘what you say is what you are’? These quotation proves
that communication skills are truly considered to be essential in being good citizen. We can’t
deny the fact that at some point we see or judge one person based on how they speak and
how they communicate to other because we believe what comes out from there mouth is
reflection of what they are, what they think and how they see things from their own
perspective. To communicate effectively is not only by using goods or pleasing words but one
aspect that needed to be consider is how they communicate or in what manner. Pleasing and
good words are not enough when you say it improperly. When one person communicates well
we see that person as a good citizen because we can easily catch the ideas we want to
convey. How can we consider a well communication contains with a good words but in an
improperly manner?
When communication fails misinterpretation arise. Different problems may arise when
there is a communication breakdowns. most of the time people misinterprets what other
people is trying to say or to covey maybe because of having a communication breakdown .
One of the example is when there is noise while two people are conversing, one of them might
get the message wrong and then that person will pass the wrong information to another
person. People might be confused and feel bad another person because of that
misinterpretation chased by that communication breakdown.
As what Berlins says’ (in teaching writing), we are teaching a way of experiencing the
world, a way of ordering and making sense of it’. We know that writing is another way of
expressing our thoughts and ideas and it is another way in communicating with others. It is
true that when we are teaching in writing, ping we are able to express what that subject
wants to convey to us.
For me, what berlin says is not only true for writing. there are many more ways in
teaching way of experiencing the world aside from writing. We should have seek ways to
make our content not just meaningful but also to have a sense out of it for it to last. We are
all aware that nothing last into long term memory unless we make sense out of its true
meaning. As what some people say that meaning making has much more impact pn long term
memory than of sense making.

COMMUNICATION IN 21st CENTURY

As its simplest, ethics is a system of of moral principles. It is also a rule of conduct and a set of
moral principles which we can used in identifying what is good or what is bad. Ethics is also based on
well founded standards of right and wrong that prescribed what humans ought to do, usually in terms
of rights, with their obligations, benefits to the society, fairness or specific values. It is also a process
of questioning, discovering and defending our values, principles and purpose. It is about finding who
we are and staying true to that in the face of temptations ,challenges and uncertainty. It’s not always
fun and its hardly never easy, but if we commit to and determine to what we have set in ourselves to
make decision we can stand by. For some people ethics is the guide wherein they based their decision
in life before taking action of it.
Ethics must be present in communication. Why? Imagine you are a professional and of course
communication is one of the most important skill in doing your profession. Whether you are an
accountant, an architect, an engineer, a teacher, a doctor and many more profession, communication
is presence. Imagine you are an accountant and you are presenting your companies income
statement for the whole year, in front of the companies board of directions and you just speak and
speak without applying ethics in communicating. Every profession comes with a set of questions
about how one should conduct themselves in a professional setting. If one person cares about what
kind of person they want to be must have a good characteristics, works to achieve success and
prevent things that will bring him to harm and abide the moral principles. Being an ethical person is
as same important as being successful.
The basic principles of ethics must be understood, an increase in the likelihood will help on
making the right and ethical choice. A life that is satisfying develops the result of developing the trust
and care relationship resulting from the decision of making ethical choices. Ethics in communication
helps people to convey the right message to another. In instances where emotions and culture are
taken into consideration, the dignity and value of the receiver will be uplifted. Most of the time due to
unethical communication the message that needs to deliver could lead to misinterpretation.
When people are not ethical to their communication and they do not use good manner when
communicating, a simple misinterpretation can lead to argument that possibly lead to a physical fight.
When one person act in an unethical manner surely there will be a consequences. What is it?
Unethical communication or behavior of one person can quickly lose trust of another person. One
person may lose their job because of unethical communication. Organization can lose their credibility,
the morale of the person can decline or the unethical behavior can result in significant loss. For
example, lying to your parents why you went home late last night and Taking credit for the work you
did not do or what we call plagiarism.
As what I have discuss above, unethical communication truly threatens the quality of all human
communication and the wellbeing of one person and of course in the society which we live in because
in hinders the right way on how to resolve conflicts and issue. Instead of fixing the issue, unethical
communication can much worsen the situation. Unethical communication has many serious
consequences. That behavior can lead to different things that people might harm you.

It is important to be ethical in communication everyday because it helps one individual in many

aspects. How? Simply, being ethical in communication builds a good relationship between another
individual. It also prevent us to disrespect or offend other people while communicating. Being
unethical in communication enhances the credibility of one individual. It helps people to improve their
decision making process before taking action of it and allow the two people to build trust. We all know
that trust is one of the most vital things here in this world. Trust makes people to keep going in terms
of having a good interaction to other. Ethics in communication avoid in doing harm with anyone. It
keeps the relation of the person to flows smoothly.
Aside form having a good communication, honesty is one of the virtue that most value today.
Honesty is not just telling the truth, its being true to yourself and acting the way who you are to
others, what you need and what you want to live your life to the fullest. Honesty allowed us to
observe and see everything about us with clarity. Without honesty there is no foundation in lasting
and enjoyable relationship in any aspect may it be in family, friendship or with your special someone.
When one person is honest, he or she build a stronger relationship between one person. Honesty
allows us to focused on things in life that is important to us. Being honest helps people to sleep at
night peacefully.
Honestly speaking, for me most of politicians today do not communicate in an ethical manner.
They do communicate to other people like they are the superior ones. But when in time of campaign
period they communicate with others well, they were asking for people’s support and vote. They
often say foul words and act like it’s the people who always done a mistake. But there are some
politicians that still communicate to people in an ethical manner, they approach and treat people the
way they treat others.
Politician is the first thing that comes to my mind with regard to violation ethical
communication. We are all aware of how our president talks. To the point that he trends in social
media because of his often usage of foul words. Yes it is normal because it is a way of expressing
what he might feel but he also need to consider the place and of-course the person he is addressing
to. Ethical manner is important because it is one way of gaining respect from other people. For me, he
must think first of what he will going to say and be careful of what words will come out to his mouth.

People communicate in unethical manner because it is easy for them to express what they want
to say. They think that it is the easiest way to get what they want and believe that they will achieve it
by expressing those words in an unethical manner. Environment can be one of the reason why some
people communicates in that unethical manner. Another reason can be, maybe because they grew up
communicating in that way and they think that it is okay all the time to talk to people in that way.
They too insensitive to think that by talking to some people in an unethical manner, people might get
offended or hurt that can definitely lead to misunderstanding and possibly to cause a physical fight.
Unethical behavior has serious consequences. Because of unethical behavior, people can lose
their job, organization can lose their credibility, morale and productivity can decline and in business
world that unethical behavior can result in a significant fines and financial loss. As what I stated,
unethical behavior can lead to serious physical fight because of that misunderstanding.

The rise of English is a remarkable success. At the end of 20 th century, English becomes more
widely spoken and written other than any language that is available to use. English has become the
language of the planet and is truly considered as a first truly language in global. It has got the status
of global language that mainly arise due to political as well as the economic power of its native
speakers. People often called the English as the international language of every business. English is
the worlds business language and there are many ways to speak the language besides one and
achieve the same goal of communication. This is also applies to that English that is used in the many
specialized professions and not in everyday functional English.
According to research, it was the British imperial and industrial power that caused the spread of
English around globe from 17th to 20th century. The British Empire is the first place where English
language spread. It is the language that is often use by those educated people in literature and even
in studying philosophy. People often used English as their language. Most of the countries around the
world are often tagged as English speakers.
As what David Crystal says’ a language achieves a genuinely global status when it develops a
special role that is recognized in every country. English language plays a major role here in the
Philippines. It’s always been one of the official language of the Philippines and is known as the
language of commerce and law, as well as the primary medium of giving instruction in education.
Another is the language of english helps the Filipinos to work abroad. The use of English in the
Philippines seems to have overtaken Filipino and other native language in the country and has a legal
ground to be used as a medium in different forms of communication and even in the country’s
educational system. Parents teach their children at their young age to speak english and teach how to
read and write english language because they believe that speaking the english language can give
their children an opportunity in abroad to have a good career that will help them in the future. That is
why Filipinos are good in communicating using english speaking that people often speak all over the
world. In our generation today, English is very important in the Philippines that will be used in
knowing how to read, write and how to pronounce it correctly and very well. We are now in modern
ages wherein most people not only Filipino can speak and understand English language.
In McCrum saying that we should not talk of English but of many Englishes because the
English language usage spans across multiple nations . McCrum’s saying reminds us with the fact that
there is no one English but should have many Englishes and states that there different dialects that
fall under the broad category of english. Also, it reminds us not to judge one variety of English by the
rules of another. For example when you are planning to migrate on a specific country , you must
learn what specific kind of English language they are using for you to be able to get along of how they
speak and what kind of English may it be. English is not a single language but rather a collection of
many related but distinct languages. The saying is not about speaking in English but rather about
speaking of English as a single entity. It is also depends on how one views the language: it is either a
single language with many standard and non-standard variants or simply many englishes.
