If Saki had used a first-person point of view, he would have severely limited what readers experience.
With the first-person point of view, readers would have seen events either through Gradwitz’s eyes or
Znaeym’s eyes but not both. While the first-person point of view would have helped maintain the story’s
suspense (as readers see all events through only one character’s eyes), it also would have made it much harder
for the author to trace the growing friendship between the two men equally.
