Student Response and Assessment Tools

Lesson Idea Name: Nouns Review

Content Area: Nouns
Grade Level(s): First Grade
Content Standard Addressed:
ELAGSE1L1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage
when writing or speaking. b. Use common, proper, and possessive nouns.

Technology Standard Addressed:

Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making: Students use critical thinking skills to plan
and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using
appropriate digital tools and resources.

Selected Technology Tool:

☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☒ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☐ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)
☐ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☒ Teacher-Paced ☐ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s):
☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☒ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration:

☒ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
The SRT activity will be a follow-up activity from my lesson idea which had students watching a video on
Edpuzzle about nouns. This will be a way for me to check what students understood during the lesson and
allow me to make changes before the lesson begins that day. If students need additional help, I will have
activities after the Kahoot for students to work on. I will introduce this Kahoot by telling students that we will
be playing a review game on nouns. This will be the first activity the students do and this is how the lesson

will be introduced for the day. I will make sure students have a tablet or computer and are logged onto the
Kahoot. I will explain to the students how Kahoot works and then begin the Kahoot.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Students will follow along the Kahoot on their tablets or computers that are given to them. Students will have
20 seconds to answer each question. Students will try their best to answer each question. At the end of the
Kahoot, there is a question that asks how they feel about nouns to help me as a teacher see who still needs
more guidance. The activity will last between 10-15 minutes max.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10): N/A
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☐ Yes ☐ No
☒ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
Yes, majority of questions will show the answer afterwards. The only question that will not is the last question
because it is for me to see how students feel about nouns after the Kahoot. This can show students the
correct answer and allow me to explain the correct answer as well for students who may have missed it.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
I will take a quick look at who may still be struggling and work with them in a small group while the rest of the
students work on the next part of speech which is verbs.
How will the data be used?
The data that will be collected during this activity will be who got which questions correct and which ones
wrong. This will show me which students need more help with this topic and will help me prevent to move on
without them fully understanding the topic first. I will not share the data with the class or use it as a grade
since it is a formative assessment. If the students still seem to be struggling after more support, I can use
these results to show parents that the student was struggling. Students will be able to receive extra help or
move on to the next part of speech which is how I will differentiate instruction for the students.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
I am hoping this motivates students to learn and will be a tool that they will enjoy using to help review for
different topics and concepts. I hope to learn where the students’ strengths and weaknesses are with this
topic and be able to provide feedback and help them master the topic. I am hoping it will be a fun and
engaging way for students to learn.
Reflective Practice:
After creating this lesson idea, I feel like this activity will impact student learning by keeping all the students
engaged and motivated to learn. It will also allow the students to be hands-on with technology and be more

interactive with the assignment. Since this is an activity for the end of a topic, I cannot really further it much
unless I do for the students who need more guidance on this topic. I can use other tools such as Flipgrid or
Nearpod with the students who need more help or while teaching them the next topic.
