Jonathan Livingston Seagull

The story of Jonathan Livingston is an interesting story about how a certain

seagull named Jonathan who lived with his values not only by words but through his
actions. Jonathan became a great teacher and continue to make others follow him in
the cause he believes and that is to become free as a seagull.
This story changed my outlook in life that I should stand firm in my own belief
as person of whoever I am right now. I will continue to trust and have confidence in
myself rather than hide in a constrained place. An example would be is that before, I
was just going with the flow by enjoying my own life as a normal student. After high
school as I came to up, I learned many things especially in our NSTP that we had to
make our own income generating funds. I planned and tried many ways to earn and
thus discovering that I enjoyed engaging into business. I ventured trying to sell my
ice candy and experimenting with the different proportions and flavors to make
people enjoy with it. Rather than just following what my group does, I became a
leader guiding the group composing of 20 students. I realize how hard it is for me to
make group closer because each and every one of us has different characteristics
and beliefs. In my example, I value hardwork and achievement because I enjoy what
I strive and continue to do best in what I have started. Another thing that I learn from
this story is that no matter who you are, you should always look back at your own
native place even if they would criticize you on your own acts. However, there are
also things in life that we must never forget like to repay our own parents for taking
good care of us and respect them for what they believe. You must not hate them but
continue to love them.
An example is that whenever I will already be graduating in college, I will still
continue to abide by the values of my own parents and grandparents that they have
instilled in me. At the same time, I will create the things that I would to value the most
in order to have confidence in my self and follow my own path. Based on this story, I
would like also to consider the values of others and their own perspective because
each and everyone has a distinct characteristics, attitudes, values and other things.
You cannot just simply force them to follow your own values and beliefs. However,
you can only inspire by showing to them what you belief and what you can do. You
are the one who creates our own image on how people want to see you. For
example is when people want to see me as an honest person, you have to show to
them that what you say is what you really mean. It is shown in the story just like the
seagull who wants to fly rather than eat by showing and proving to them by hovering
up in the sky. The purpose according to Jonathan is not to fly to eat but to enjoying
flying itself. I also learned from the story that you also listen and portray that the
elders have taught you. They may be right because they are more knowledgeable
than you are. However not all what they say I right but nevertheless you have to
respect them.
