Occupational Health

A. Occupational Health

 Occupational health studies explores the problem of a two-way relationship


between work and health. Science does not only concern the relationship between
the effects of the work environment and the health of workers, but the relationship
between the health status of workers and the ability to perform tasks that must be
done.
According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), an effort to tackle
workplace accidents and diseases in the workplace is through the application of
legislation including:
a. Occupational Safety and Health provisions and conditions that always follow
the development of science, engineering and technology (up to date)
b. The application of all provisions and requirements for occupational safety and
health in accordance with applicable laws and regulations from the
engineering stage.
c. Supervision and monitoring of OSH implementation through direct inspections
at the workplace.

It was further stated that the main focus of occupational health, namely:
1) Maintenance and improvement of workers' health and work capacity
2) Improvement of work and work environments that support safety and health
3) Development of work organization and work culture towards supporting health
and safety in the workplace as well as enhancing a positive social atmosphere
and smooth operations and increasing company productivity

B. WORKING CAPACITY, WORK LOADS, WORK ENVIRONMENT

 Work capacity, workload and work environment are the three main components in
the occupational health system. Where the interactive and harmonious relationship
between the three components will produce good and optimal work health.
Good work capacity such as occupational health and good work nutrition status and
excellent physical abilities are needed so that workers can do their jobs well.
Workload includes both physical and mental workload. As a result of workload that
is too heavy or too weak physical abilities can result in a person suffering from work
disorders or illnesses.
The condition of the work environment is the condition of the workplace
environment at work, for example heat, dust, chemicals and others, can be an
additional burden on workers. The additional burden individually or jointly becomes
a work disorder or disease.

C. WORK HEALTH EFFORT POLICY

In Indonesia, most of which are carried out in the service of occupational health
efforts in the workplace, namely:

1. Work Health Effort Policy is carried out in a complete, tiered and integrated
manner
2. Occupational health services are an integral activity of health services at the
primary and referral level health
3. Occupational health services are strengthened by information systems,
surveillance & service standards in accordance with statutory regulations and
science and technology
4. Improving the quality of plenary health services
5. Promotion of health and safety at work is carried out optimally
6. Improved coordination of the implementation of UKK at the National, Provincial,
Regency / City, District & Kelurahan / Village levels.
7. Empowering Puskesmas as an effective service network in the field of
occupational health in the working community, especially in the informal sector.
8. evelopment of a participatory forum for informal workers (Pos UKK) as PKM
partners in the context of cultivating Occupational Health and Safety (K3)

E. WORK HEALTH SERVICES

 Conditions for the provision of occupational health services, are based on:

    Law NO.36 of 2009 concerning Health


    Kepmenkes No. 920 of 1986 concerning efforts of private services in the medical
field.
    RI Minister of Manpower and Transmigration No. 03 / MEN / 1982 regarding
occupational health services where occupational health services are held depending
on the number of workers & the level of danger

WORK SCOPE OF WORK HEALTH SERVICES

· Examination and selection of prospective workers & workers


· Health maintenance (promotive, preventive, curative & rehabilitative)
· Improved quality & workplace conditions
· Aligning work capacity, workload & work environment
· Establishment & development of community participation of workers in
occupational health services

TYPES OF WORK HEALTH SERVICES

The occupational health service program is more focused on services:


1. Promotive
a. Education and counseling on Occupational Health and Safety (K3)
b. · Maintaining ideal body weight
c. · Improvement of nutrition, balanced menu & selection of healthy & safe
foods, Canteen Hygiene.
d. · Maintenance of a healthy work environment (Hygiene & sanitation)
e. · Physical activity: Sports, fitness
f. · Quitting smoking / drug counseling
g. · Cross Sectoral Coordination
h. · Advocacy

2. Preventive
a. · Health check (initial, periodic, special)
b. · Immunization
c. · Identification & measurement of potential risks
d. · Hazard control (Physical, Chemical, Biological, Psychological,
Ergonomic)
e. · Surveillance of Occupational Diseases, Occupational Diseases,
Occupational Accidents (CAC) & other diseases.
f. Monitoring the Work Environment.

3. Curative
a. First aid in emergency cases.
b. Physical examination and support
c. Make a referral
d. Services are provided to workers who have experienced
health problems.
e. Services provided include treatment of general illness and
occupational diseases.
f. Occupational Disease Therapy (PAK) with casual / primary
therapy & symptomatic therapy

4. Rehabilitative Occupational Health Services, including :


· Medic rehabilitation
· Training and education of workers to be able to use their abilities that still exist
to the maximum.
· Selective placement of disabled workers according to their abilities.

5. Referral Occupational Health Services, i.e. Referral of patients / patients to


higher health facilities

Puskesmas -> BKKM -> RSU / RS.KSpecial
b. HEALTH REQUIREMENT:

1) Environmental Sample -> Environmental Health Engineering Institute /


Occupational Health and Safety Center
2)Laboratory Samples -> Job Training Centers
3)Pollution Cases -> Regency / City
