‘An Access to Higher Education Validating Agency (AVA) has asked for a
short training programme to prepare new external moderators for their role in
moderation. There are 20 moderators in total, located in different parts of the

organisations operate, in a critical and informed way, and with reference to key texts, articles
and other publications and by using organisational examples for illustration.
All reference sources should be acknowledged correctly, and a bibliography provided where
appropriate (these should be excluded from the word count).

Activity 2
A justified and costed learning and development solution (approx. 1500 words)
Candidates should relate academic concepts, theories and professional practice to the way
organisations operate, in a critical and informed way, and with reference to key texts, articles and
other publications and by using organisational examples for illustration.
Candidates should:

Give at least three and examples from the business world e.g. L&D, marketing,
IT etc.
Explain each stage of the consultancy process from identification of business
need through to closure and/or renewal of the arrangement.
Explain how they would establish with the client the processes for reporting on
the progress and outcomes of an L&D solution e.g. e-briefings, 1:2:1 catch ups
Give examples of follow up activities to sustain change e.g. follow up diagnostic
impact assessments, further training etc.
Provide at least three examples of how client-consultant relationships can
become dysfunctional and how problems can be avoided e.g. establishing and
adhering to modes and frequency of communication, clarifying and re-clarifying
client requirements, agreeing scope and boundaries.
Candidates should:
AC 2.1, 2.2, Explain how they would establish the requirements of the customer in the case
2.3 study outline e.g. requesting more information on the need, expected outcomes
and outputs, nature of the participants.
Give two costed examples of how the need could be met e.g. a face-to-face
workshop delivered in a central location or a set of guided study and self-test
materials which participants would be required to complete.
Provide a recommended and costed solution based on their assessment of
need and budget parameters.
