USING APPROPRIATE COORDINATING
Lesson
CONJUNCTIONS

Conjunctions are also a part of speech that help express a complete

thought of the spoken or written language. We connect two independent

clauses to make a short and more comprehensible sentence.

What’s In

Read the short story below. Answer the questions that follow. Write

your answers on your English notebook.

Nico, Yuan and Marian are siblings. They love reading books and

studying their lessons in school. Yuan would always get high score in

Filipino, but he would get low in English. He decided to skip playing

badminton to give extra time for his lessons in English. He thought of what

his sister would always remind him, “You listen to your teacher in school

5
and you do your assignments at home.” Likewise, his brother would say,

“We have to nourish our mind, but we have to be physically fit, too”.

Nico likes numbers. He is good at solving Math problems, so he got

the highest grades in Math among the other subjects. Yuan would always

ask him to teach his techniques at solving problems specifically in fractions

and geometric patterns.

Science is Marian’s favorite subject, yet she does good in Math. She

doesn’t like Araling Panlipunan for she doesn’t like memorizing dates and

events. She is more interested in studying plants, animals and space yet

Math problems are easy for her.

The siblings may like different learning areas, but they always give

support to each other’s weaknesses. Their parents are proud of them.

Comprehension Questions:

1. Who are the children in the story?

2. In what subject did Yuan get high and low score?

3. What was Nico’s advice to Yuan?

4. Why does Nico get higher grades in Math?

5. What was Marian's favorite and least favorite subject?

6. Why doesn't she like AP?
