I. Introduction

With your exposure to many forms of media in your daily life at school or at
home, you have learned how to use them for your own advantage such as writing
reports, making class presentations, creating a short video, or even generating a
meme-worthy post on social networking sites.

How many presentation software do you know of besides Windows

PowerPoint? Have you explored different blogs before? Do you follow podcasts?
How well do these platforms and applications enhanced your understanding of what
multimedia is?

In this module, you will revisit the multimedia tools you may have been using
in your day-to-day activities, get acquainted with other useful platforms, and learn
how to use them in order to have a fresher look at select literary pieces from the 21 st
Century Literature of the Philippines. Ultimately, this module will help you decide in
choosing the most appropriate multimedia tool and apply your ICT skills in producing
a creative representation of a literary text.

II. Pre-Test
Activity 1. MultimediAudit. You have been informed in your Media and
Information Literacy class before that whenever text, audio, still images,
animation, video, and interactivity are combined, the result is multimedia. In this
pre-test, you will determine whether the tool used is a multimedia. Analyze each
illustration and put a check  on the blank if it is a multimedia; an X if it is not.

How well have you done in the

try-out? If you scored 3-5, you
just did an amazing job! Do not
worry if you scored below 3,
you still have the chance to go
over your notes on the
different types of multimedia.

Now, you will discover more

about our lesson. Enjoy the

III. Lesson Proper

Activity 2. ComiConcept. In the previous lesson, you learned

how to relate the connection between the context and the
Look Back meaning of the text in the poem about Martial Law.

Let us see if you can find the connection between the context and the
meaning in this comic strip from Pilipino Star Ngayon. Read and understand this
sample multimedia tool—a combination of images and texts, so you will be able to
answer the questions that follow. Ready? Go!

You seem so happy about your answers. Good job, pal! Now, I guess you are
prepared to take this to a new level. In the next activity, you will be
acquainted with different multimedia tools and their uses. Enjoy!

Building Vocabulary

I am confident that with your experiences in multimedia in your previous classes,

you have come to be acquainted with a handful of terms related to the subject. You are
about to add a whole new bunch of terms in your vocabulary as you take on the next part
of this module called ‘Study These’. Savor each word or phrase as you will be using them
in the succeeding parts of your journey. Good luck!

Study These

Defining Multimedia. Encyclopedia.com defines multimedia as the term used to

describe two or more types of media combined into a single package—usually
denoting a combination of some or all of the following: video, sound, animation, text,
and pictures.

The following make up multimedia. Familiarize yourself with each and be ready to
take on the next activity.

Texts. These are written documents, the words seen in handouts, PowerPoint
presentations, Web sites, and reports. One of the simplest types of media, text is
also used to communicate the most information and appears in conjunction with
visual aids.

Audio. This is the sound that often accompany visual presentations. Sound by
itself can be used in radio broadcasts or online audio files, but in multimedia
presentations audio is used as a complementary media. Sound effects can help
make a presentation more memorable, while hearing the main points of information
spoken can help listeners focus.

Still images. Photographs, taken either by digital or analog means, are an

important part of multimedia productions. Well-placed visual aids can explain
concepts with clarity.

Animation. Animations are graphics that move, accompanied by audio effects.

-4-
Video. Video media is used to spread interviews, create movies, and post personal
updates to communicate business messages. Currently, businesses can use
videos online or create CDs to spread for instructional use within their company.

Interactivity. The newest form of multimedia, interactivity, is a computer-based

tool which allows users to choose to learn different parts of information on their
own terms. By highlighting or choosing links and sections, users can manipulate
the information environment, examining whatever knowledge is important to them.

Hey! I am sure you have familiarized yourself with the concepts above and
that you have encountered these before in your lessons somewhere or perhaps
in one of your me times using your smartphones. Will you be able to name some
apps that combine these media? Why don’t you give it a shot in this activity?

Enrichment Activities

Activity 3 UPS N’ APPS. Identify the multimedia app or software below by reading
the descriptions given. You can also get the clue from the jumbled letters in the
box.

1. _____________. Coined from iPod and broadcast, this is series of spoken

word, audio episodes, all focused on a particular topic or theme, like cycling or
startups which you can subscribe to with an app on your smartphone and listen to
episodes whenever and wherever you like

tspdoca

2.___________. A book publication made available in digital form, consisting of text,

images, or both, readable on the flat-panel display of computers or other electronic
devices such as smartphones or tablets.

keobo
3.__________. It is a presentation software similar to PowerPoint where you don’t
create slides, rather you make a presentation of text and visuals that you zoom in
and out of in different views.

pzrei

Activity 4. Justifia-APP! After naming the multimedia software or apps in the task
above, list down the components that make up the multimedia defined in each on the
blanks below. Remember that a multimedia is a combination of any of the
components named in ‘Study These’. An example below is given to guide you.

6.___________= __________+ __________

7.___________= ___________+__________

8.___________= __________+ __________

How was that? Check on your score below.

5-10 Great job!
4-below It is alright! You can still keep trying until you find the right words
and combinations.

Now that you have gotten some ideas on multimedia formats, you may want to visit
some websites that will teach you in using these tools for your project. The following
links lead you to YouTube videos that present easy tutorials:

2- https://castos.com/how-to-submit-a-podcast-to-spotify/

You are halfway through this module! What a relief to know that, right? Now,
be ready to face new tasks as you contemplate on choosing the multimedia
format that best suits your creative representation of a literary text. In this
activity, you will be helped in familiarizing the use of some software or
multimedia tools which you may consider in building your project.

show Gabi ng Lagim, Hilakbot TV narrates the
stories in the style of radio dramas.

Dousing Fires
By Glenn Sentes

How will one's feet dance to the rhythms if the gongs have ceased to pump the
veins?

Are the hues of the palette enough for a leonardeschi art to transcend?

When your mezzo-soprano fails to hit, will your story still get heard?

Will a cyclist still pedal to savor the orange horizons without his friends?

Who will listen when the wrinkled fingers lay on the dusty piano?

Do these words still tell of a poet who once penned in flames?

Activity 8. Passion Comicalized. No gadget? Do not fret! This activity is specially

for you. Carry on! The poem above speaks of one who loses passion. In a comic
strip of 3 or 4 frames, tell a story of someone who seems to be tired of doing what he
or she used to love, say a ballerina, a cartoonist, a singer, or a sculptor. Remember
that a comic strip (although it has a character, setting and plot condensed in 3 or 4
frames) uses very minimal words; so, use dialogs sparingly. You may want to try
viewing some comic strips on the newspaper to draw some inspiration as far as style
is concerned. Be guided by the rubric below.
