II. PROJECT SUMMARY

DAGUY Project is a teacher-initiated project aiming to salvage, collect, and establish a small
cultural, historical museum inside the Narra National High School compound. This museum
would house, exhibit, and record artifacts and collections that have something to do with the
culture and history of the Municipality of Narra. The project is initiated by highly spirited
volunteer teachers supervised by the project coordinator, Mrs. Adonai Shammah M. Lumba
with the approbation of the department heads and of the school head.

The project will be launched on May 03, 2021.The estimated time allotment for the
preparation is 3 months, starting April to July this year. Initially, the project planning starts
during the month of April then followed by building networks. The project committees will
contact possible stakeholders to support and sustain the project, collaborate with the local
government unit and other concerned agencies for greater jolt. While building linkages and
connections, the collection of artifacts will also begin. After linkages had been formed, the
renovation of the propose museum building will take place, followed by the information
dissemination and campaign. The grand opening of the Benjamin J. Lamitar Jr. Museum will
be done on July 26, 2021.

The initiative is named after the more than century year old Tagbanua Wedding Jar given by
Cecilia Basio of Purok Pagkakaisa, Malinao, Narra, Palawan. Daguy, a Tagbanua term for
echo, is an ancient folklore sung with Tagbanua music where the chieftain usually sings in
turn with the audience to repeat it.
III. PROJECT BACKGROUND

NARRA, an acronym which stands for National Resettlement Rehabilitation Administration,

a program that was established on June 18, 1954, that relocated landless people
from Luzon to Palawan. Later on, the area given for resettlement became the Municipality of
Narra, created by virtue of Republic Act No. 5642 signed by President Ferdinand Marcos.
The momentary event led to the first-class municipality known today as the “Rice Granary of
Palawan” and the “Katala Capital of the World”. Years after the town was established, the
current premiere public school was instituted, the Narra National High School (NNHS)
known before as “Narra Barangay High School”. Like the town itself, the school has a great
milestone and rich history where every Narranon of different ages could be proud of.

Having such background, a need to have a center that will serve as storage and exhibit room
that will showcase the town’s culture, tradition, and history is needed in order to help educate
the people especially the new generation of Narranons.

In line with this, as the leading public school in Narra, the undersigned initiate a school
project entitled “DAGUY Project”, the creation of a museum that will preserve the town’s
artifacts and will promote the town’s culture and history, located at Narra National High
School, Narra, Palawan.

IV. PROJECT OBJECTIVES

 To create a cultural museum that will exhibit and preserve some of the important
artifacts and collections of the town.

 To promote awareness among Narranons about the preservation of culture.

 Create an environment which presents the town’s history and culture in an inviting
atmosphere.

 Expand community awareness on the role of museum in education.
