PLANNING OVERVIEW
Year Level: 2 Unit Title Beautiful world Beautiful me
Overview – explanation of the content of the unit, to come from teacher background information, teaching and learning program (Approx half-
full page)
We are able to find joy through the beauty of creation and therefore discover God’s beauty. Jesus has taught his followers how we are to take care of
creation in order to maintain and enhance its beauty.

God becomes present in individuals through the act of Baptism and the pouring of holy water over our heads. Jesus teaches, through water, that God
wants to be part of all of us. This is shown through the Sacrament of Baptism (C1). Jesus taught his followers that in order to be loving they need to love
God with all their hearts, mind, souls and strength. For example, by showing respect for the environment and creation (C3).

Christians continue to learn that God’s beauty is highlighted through creation and therefore they must care for creation as Jesus taught (C4).

Place class Bible in front of you with your hand on it.
This story comes from our special book, the Bible.

Place Bible beside you.

Move your hand over the space in front of you as you say:
In the beginning there was darkness

Hold Poster 1 in front of you.

and God said, “Let there be light.” God made the day and the night.
God saw that it was good.
Place Poster 1 on the floor to your far right facing the children.
Hold Poster 2 in front of you.
Then God made the waters. There was water in the sky and water on the earth.
Next God made the earth and plants of every kind.

I wonder ….why God made all these things…what here was before God made the world…which one of these gifts you like the best…why God
made us…how we can look after the world…if God would be happy with the way we look after the world today…how we can use our day of
rest

Carefully pack story materials into storage box and put on shelf. Ensure that children are watching so they know how to pack the materials away and where to find them.

Matthew 6:26 Consider the lilies in the field

This story is from a very special book called the bible and it reminds us of how We should just like Jesus show appreciation for the creation
God has given us

Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them.

Are not ye of much more value than they? 27

And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto [a]the measure of his life? 28

And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

While reading the scripture have the following out

- Class bible
- Green felt as grass
- Jesus figure
- Flowers
- Birds

Carefully pack story materials into storage box and put on shelf. Ensure that children are watching so they know how to pack the materials away and where to find them.
