The Wack Wack Golf and Country Club has been known globally especially the East
course because this is where the big tournaments have been held namely the Philippine Open and
the World Cup of 1977. In my opinion, the firm is being known in the entertainment industry for
the reason that they compete in terms of creating superior products and services, adding more
exclusive features, and satisfying the different needs of a customer – a differentiation strategy. The
firm cannot compete in terms of pricing and use the cost leadership advantage as the golf industry
is an expensive type of entertainment.

As stated above, since Wack Wack Golf and Country Club uses differentiation strategy, it
is easier to evaluate their value chain by identifying the firm’s activities that creates customers’
value and the differentiation strategies to improve their value in customers. The firm’s value chain
is being examined through understanding the following primary activities of the firm:

A. Inbound Logistics
B. Outbound Logistics
C. Operations
D. Marketing Sales
E. Sales

For the inbound logistics, in order to ensure that the food they offer is of high quality, the
Wack Wack Golf and Country Club has their own catering services. As specified on their website,
the food is being catered by three reputable caterers namely FDI, The Plaza, and PVL, which are
known for the high-quality services that they offer. With their differentiation strategy, the firm
assures that they provide and satisfies the specific needs of each and every customer by offering
them a variety of customized food selections in their menus in accordance with the customer’s
budget. These products and services indeed gave them an advantage against the competitors as
they created customer value. However, due to limited resources, there is no data found regarding
the procurement of golf equipment and other related materials. This relates to the outbound
logistics of the firm. The company offers exclusive products and services to the members and
guests of the club, also called The Club Pro-Shop. The shop is being operated by a skilled and
knowledgeable staff to assure that the customers will be provided with the equipment that they
need for golf. Some of the products that they offer are club sets, irons, putters, wedges, gloves,
shoes, bags, carts, balls and clothing.

In terms of operations, the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club has been offering extensive
and globally competitive facilities to the customers. The firm has two internationally known
championship courses: The East Course and The West Course. Being globally competitive, The
East Course is used to host international and big events like the Asian Circuit, Philippine Golf
Open Championship, and the World Cup that was held in 1977. On one hand, The West Course is
mostly played by the senior members, females and guests of the golf club. Also, Wack Wack Golf
and Country Club has numerous function rooms, a restaurant, and club facilities.

Being one of the most prestigious and exclusive golf clubs in the Philippines, the Wack
Wack Golf and Country Club’s marketing team is only targeting elite people, therefore, they did
not use social media advertisements and focused only on maximizing their resources on their
targeted market. As for the company, they will attract more members through the
recommendations of the existing members of the club, this is called the “word-of-mouth
marketing”. As said above, the firm focuses on creating customer value, with this, satisfied
customers will commend and suggest the golf club to their friends or acquaintances – indirectly
promoting its brand name to the public, specifically the elite people.

The Wack Wack Golf and Country Club offers a wide range of services from golf courses
to restaurant services. The firm has bars and lounges and an exclusive swimming pool area, which
can be used as a venue on different occasions. However, some of their services are offered
exclusively for the members of the club. Mentioned above are the facilities and its services that
the firm offers. More importantly, they offer high-quality services for the members and guests of
the club. The club has professional trainers for beginners in golf. The club also assures that
beginners will learn easily with the help of these professional trainers. However, they only offer
reservations for tournaments that are sponsored by the members of the club and international
reservations are upon the approval of the Board of Directors. These services, just like the products
that they offer, create and improve customer’s value.
In order to examine the firm’s value chain, we also have to understand and evaluate the
different supporting activities of the firm which are the following:

D. Firm Infrastructure

Related to inbound and outbound logistics of primary activities, the firm makes sure that
the goods in The Club Pro-Shop, including the food that the restaurant offers, are of high quality.
Newest and latest fashion trends in golf apparel and accessories are being offered in the shop. This
indicates that they have effective management of procuring resources. For their technology
development, the shop offers the newest innovations in golf industry indicating the driving range
of the two golf courses, male & female air-conditioned locker rooms, and gym. Also, Wack Wack
Golf and Country Club has their official website where people can view information, inquire and
book reservations. Indicated in their official website are the contract number and emails where
they can acquire information.

For the firm’s Human Resource Management (HRM), the Wack Wack Golf and Country
Club assures that the golf trainers are all professionals and skilled in playing golf so that they will
be able to provide high-quality services to the members and guests of the club. Also, they hired a
knowledgeable staff in the Pro-Shop Club in order to assist the customers the right golf equipment
that they need.
For the firm’s Human Resource Management (HRM), the Wack Wack Golf and Country
Club assures that the golf trainers are all professionals and skilled in playing golf so that they will
be able to provide high-quality services to the members and guests of the club. Also, they hired a
knowledgeable staff in the Pro-Shop Club in order to assist the customers with the right golf
equipment that they need. The corporate plans and policies are determined and created by the board
of directors including the President, Vice President, Corporate Secretary, Treasurer, Director for
Membership and Auction Committee, Grounds Committee, Legal Committee, Sports & Games
Committee and House Committee.

Identify key resources and processes that represent strengths, areas that need
improvement, and opportunities to develop a competitive advantage.

Wack Wack Golf and Country Club is known both locally and internationally since its golf
courses are used in prestigious events and tournaments. The club’s facilities are globally
competitive specifically The East Course and The West Course. That being said, the firm considers
these areas as their strength. Being known globally significantly affects the growth of every
business. Their brand awareness triggers the decisions of the customers when comparing between
competing companies. Also, the catering services that they provided can be considered as their
strength as these caterers are known for their reputations in the food industry.

As they proved that their word-of-mouth marketing strategy is effective enough to increase
their sales by recruiting more members, however, they can still improve their marketing strategy
by increasing their target market and not only for the elite people since their prices for some
services that they offer are somehow consumer-friendly. The Wack Wack Golf and Country Club
shall continue using differentiation strategy while expanding the target market to utilize its
resources while maximizing its profits. The club shall invest in research and development for the
continuous advancement of facilities and technologies that can be used to improve their operations.
Lastly, the club shall develop new and unique features or services in order to create more customer
value by taking advantage of the use of their extensive and world-class facilities.
