Activity 1
Direction: The various definition of history above may either be focusing on political,
cultural, social, or moral dimensions of the subject. Write on the box the definitions
which are for political, cultural, social, or moral dimensions.
HISTORY
Dr. José Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines. Rizal was the founder of the
country’s nationalism and had significantly contributed to the current condition of the
nation. He is not only admired for possessing intellectual brilliance but also for taking a
stand and resisting the Spanish colonial government. He fought for freedom using a pen
as a sword while his death sparked a revolution to overthrow the tyranny, Rizal will
always be remembered for his compassion towards the Filipino people and the country.
Assessment
History 1. This word means only that part of the human past which can be
meaningfully reconstructed from the available documents and from understanding their
context.
Thomas Jefferson 3. He is a renowned historian who sees history taking shape from
the responses made against certain crisis and challenges.
The great man theory 4. Which theory suggests that history is the study of important
individuals like heroes.
Dialectics 5. It refers to the term first coined by Hegel which suggests that
contradiction is inherent in reality and is integral in any form of development.
It is really important because you may learn about past human behavior that is
relevant to the intellectual growth and development of an individual.
Studying the past events give us an understanding of how the world came to be,
including all cultures of the people as well as nature. By learning about the
causes and effects of events in the history, people can learn better ways to deal
with conflict among nations and individuals.
Studying the history specifically environmental changes can enhance a healthier
lifestyle for mankind. Although human behavior is unpredictable at times, a better
understanding through the study of history can provide valuable insight for our
future generations.
History allows us to think about the greatest question humanity has ever asked-
“WHY?” Studying history gives us information on how a person came to be, or
how a thing started.
History makes us aware of the vicious cycle. It is really fascinating to know how
certain psychological ideas have evolved. You can see how a value old idea
(unconscious mind) became new again. By studying the history and systems of
psychology we could avoid repetitions of mistakes and we will know that a lot of
what is said every day is a myth. The study of this subject helps us understand
the discipline in newer ways and we come to know the assumptions underlying
the contemporary psychological ideas and theories.
