STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

If you want a change do it yourself, do not wait for others. I am very much inspired by this quote
because from my childhood, I am very much interesting to do something for society. I noticed that
from a lot of problems the one big problem of the country is the Infrastructure, as in my opinion
the country's growth is directly related to its infrastructure. I grew up in a rural area, so when I first
saw a magazine about Skyscrapers in my college library, I was mesmerized by the sheer size and
design of buildings. I realized that it was possible to build magnificent tall structures with artistic
flair if the right materials and the precision of calculated engineering. I worked towards and
secured admission for an undergraduate program in Civil Engineering. Initially, I found civil
engineering very challenging but gradually it becomes more interesting with the study of core
subjects like Structural analysis, Reinforced concrete, and Steel Structure Design.

In the last semester which is an Industrial training period at my university, I have joined a
Structure Design Consultancy in my city. Things that I have imagined during my study now are in
front of me since my basic was solid, so I started picking up very quickly and after my 6-month
training, they offered me a position of Assistant Structural Design Engineer where my duties are
to make a structural model of various Buildings, Footbridges, and Water tanks in software like
Staad pro and Etabs, prepare the structural design of projects, calculation report of projects, cost
estimation of each material and site inspection. My time in the industry has greatly boosted my
ability to understand the concept that I have learned in the classroom. During my work on various
projects, I have realized that I have to increase my knowledge in the structural design of non-linear
structures since I felt that my whole region is filled with simple structures. In this ever-changing
world of Engineering and Technology, where each new day sees a spate of new concept and
applications and each passing day make them obsolete, I want to attain the highest level of
knowledge and transcend new horizons in my field

I have been searching for the last 8-9 months from which university and which country should I
consider for my master's. After a lot of research and talking to my seniors, friends, and relatives, I
choose Canada and the Carleton University as my destination for a master's in civil engineering.
Canada's education system is excellent with a reasonable fee structure and ranks among the best
in the world. Canada is a peaceful, politically stable, and safe country. It has internationally
recognized degrees, and provide excellent healthcare to international students. Canada is full of
people from many cultures. Moreover, I choose Carleton University for my M.Eng. course in civil
engineering because the Carleton University is Canada's top teaching and research universities,
with an international reputation for excellence across the humanities, sciences, creative arts,
business, engineering, and health sciences. My specialization in this M.Eng. course will be
Structural Engineering. My admission into your esteemed institution is of paramount importance
to my career. With my theoretical knowledge and practical skill, I am well equipped to meet your
expectations.

Having made this statement of my objective, I believe that what your university looks for, in a
prospective student, is a strong academic background the shear will perform and deliver. An
extremely distinguished faculty, the state of art research facilities in the field of civil engineering
are the most important factors, which motivated me to choose this university. All this means,
getting a degree from a renowned university would add a feather to my cap for my bright future
back in my home country. India is the fastest-growing economies of the world, it is believed that
its ongoing economic reforms/programs like Smart City Program, Concessions to Foreign
Investors, 100% FDIs in various sectors, etc. would add multiple jobs to the construction sector.
I would like to start my career after M.eng by working in some reputed organization for a few
years and then will start my own venture. I foresee that my international degree, which is
recognized in my country, would enable me to earn a good income initially. After the degree, I can
get into the industry as a Structural Design Engineer and Project Engineer in companies like
Afcons Infrastructure Limited, DSC Limited, Gammon India Ltd, etc.

I believe that all knowledge is in the human mind, it requires only an awakening. And I am the
kind of student who just needs guidance and will work very hard to fulfill your expectations.
Since I believe that your university would be an ideal place for me to pursue my graduate studies,
I wish to canalize my knowledge and make my life significant by joining your university.

Rajendra Singh
