INTRODUCTION

Computer-to-plate is the process of transferring digital data from computers directly onto
printing plates, hence the term computer-to-plate. This process eliminates the need for film
and chemical proofs by utilising PDF files. Contract quality digital proofs are produced for
colour matching.

Computer to Film (CTF) is a print workflow involving the printing from a computer, straight to
film. This film is then burned onto a lithographic plate, using a plate burner. The plate is then
put on an offset printing press to make a product (usually thousands of copies). This process
requires a clean environment, skilled workers, and a well thought out proofing system /
workflow to maximize quality.
What is CTF?
 CTF is computer to film.
 The brand of this machine is Kodak, Fuji and now we are using Mega film.
 The characteristic of this machine is Pancromatic film and sensitive in light.

What is

 The biggest size in CTF is 24 inch and the length is 60 meter.

 The image setter is combined with image processor.
 Screen Katana

Workflow for CTF.

 Layout or artwork(Ilustrator and indesign)
 The format that can be use in CTF is forscript file and PDF file.
 It transfer to software color separation RIP501 PC and the cost is 40000.
 Inside the software there is separation color CMYK and then transfer to image
setter(Screen Katana) Made in Japan.
 There is 5 chapter in it where image radiate light in dots.
 Secondly, it will hard if hit by the lights and no response.
 The film processor can be divided into 4 ;
Firstly is developer, fixer, water and drying.

What is CTP?
 CTP means Computer to Plate is an imaging technology used in modern printing
processes.
 In this technology, an image created in a Desktop Publishing (DTP) application is
output directly to a printing plate.
 CTP involves two components the plate and the platesetter, as well as the computer
hardware and software to run the system.
 The platesetter receives the image from the computer and imparts it onto the plate.
The plate then has the image that is printed onto the substrate.
 A CTP platesetter uses a laser to change the coating on the plate either physically or
chemically.
 There are two main types of CTP platesetters, thermal and visible light referring to
the type of laser technology used.
 Thermal CTP technology changes the plate physically by either hardening the image
areas or removing the non-image areas known as ablation.
 Visible light CTP technology, commonly referred to as violet CTP, changes the plate
chemically and the coating in the non-image area is washed from the plate.
 As the traditional process, a separate is made for wach color to be used on the
press.
