Engagement Activities
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introduction What I need to know?

 The learners will do the walkthrough of the lesson expectations. In

this part, the content of the lesson will be presented.
 Learning objectives will also be introduced to guide the learners
on the learning objectives.

What’s new?

 The students will read and analyze pages 4-5 of their worktext. On
that page, they will need to understand the following concepts:
a. Speed refers to how far an object moves in a given time
interval. It indicates how fast an object is moving without
referring to the direction of motion. Therefore, speed is a
scalar quantity. The average speed of an object is defined
as the distance traveled divided by the time it takes the
object to travel a distance.
b. Velocity uses the concept of displacement (instead of
distance traveled) and time. The standard unit for both
distance and displacement in the SI system is the
meter(m).
c. An object has acceleration whenever there is a rate of
change in its velocity. The velocity of a moving object may
change in a number of ways; by changing its speed, by
changing its direction or by changing both its speed and
direction. In short, acceleration is the rate of change in
velocity.
d. The SI unit of acceleration is meters per square second
(m/s2). The direction of acceleration is the direction of the
change in velocity. Ideally, the word “acceleration” is
always associated with increasing speed and
“deceleration” refers to decreasing speed.

B. Development What I know?

 The students will answer Activity 1. In this task, they will copy the
crossword puzzle in their papers. After that, they will complete the
word puzzle by identifying the word/ term described or defined.
C. Engagement What’s more?

 For the students to enhance more their knowledge and skills

about the topic, they will answer another task, Activity No. 2. In
this activity, they will copy the table on page 6 of their worktext on
their papers. Then, they will complete the table containing data
obtained from a 200m-dash competition. After that, they will
analyze the details and answer the questions that follow.
D. Assimilation What I have learned?

 To assess if the students have really understood the lesson and

mastered the skills for this topic, they will answer Activity 3. For
this activity, they will read each problem carefully then solve for
the quantities required. They need to show also their solutions
and write their answers in their papers and box the final answer.
