CARE: THE SECRET INGREDIENT TOWARDS PATIENT RECOVERY

A Reflection Paper

In building trust with others, caring is one of the most essential qualities. The way
people understand caring is to be compassionate. We need to be attentive to patient
expectations as a nurse. Therefore, giving consideration to those with whom we come
into touch has many advantages. Improved patient satisfaction is one advantage. Now
how are we going to show care to our patients? As the famous philosophy implies, you
cannot give to others if you don’t have it in yourself. As nurses dealing with other
individuals seeking medical concerns, it is very essential that we take the time to help
and care for ourselves as we take action to support others. The idea of self-care
practice doesn't mean you choose yourself over other people. This ensures that you are
simply conscious of your own needs, so that you are better able to help the individuals
you care for. As a result, you are better able to fulfill the needs of the patient when you
take care of yourself and are not depressed.

As a student nurse, I have learned that self-care comes in a number of different

ways. It does not take a complicated plan; when you realize you are getting anxious;
self-care can be as easy as taking a deep breath and doing things that will promote a
healthier body and progressive life. I would probably be better able to navigate the
stressors and problems that come along with supporting everyone you care for by
preserving your physical and mental health. I can preserve my mental health by
enhancing my physical health, and will thus be more effective in helping patients who
are in need of utmost care. Some of the things I need to do is exercising regularly,
consuming healthy food, and getting enough sleep. It is also equally important to
maintain mental health by keeping socially connected with others. If I can effectively
assure myself is well-taken care of, this would immediately radiate to the way how I
handle my patients.
To sum up what all has been stated, empathy and compassion are vital aspects
of how a nurse should treat patients. nurses can demonstrate caring by being with the
patient and ensuring that they feel comfortable in their environment by showing that you
care and this would gradually affect their recovery. I have learned that the nursing
profession is not just about treating disease, it is also about every way possible to
improve patient care. It also involves the sharing of information with patients that is
tailored to their particular needs, beliefs and expectations so that they will feel that we
are concern for them. In the end, we have to always remember that patients, not just the
diseases they have, are individuals and should be handled with dignity, respect and
care.
