This mini project is about seed germinating and planting plants. To produce this project, I used
3 types of seeds namely green beans, white beans and red beans. I used 7 seeds for each type
and I observed the growth of my plants for 10 days. After preparing the material and performing
the prescribed procedure, I made observations once every 2 days. I will discuss only plant A
i.e. green bean seeds. As we know, seed germination occurs only when sufficient moisture,
temperature, and oxygen are present to maintain growth. I follow the procedure where I use
cotton instead of soil and use osmosis drinking water as well as room temperature to ensure
adequate moisture.
On the second day, I noticed that some of my seeds had sprouted and some had not.
Sprouting seeds have produced shoots and roots. But the germination of seeds starts from the
growth of the roots, I can be sure of the seeds that do not produce shoots yet but already have
roots. So my observation on the second day was plant growth started from the roots. The root
is positive gravitropism because it responds to gravity i.e. the roots point downwards and the
shoots point upwards.
On the fourth day, I only took height measurements. For the sixth day, it was interesting
because I was able to prove that it was positive phototropism. Plant A has bent towards the light
as it grows. It bends because the cells on the shaded side grow faster than the light side. The
shaded side grows faster due to the high concentration of auxin resulting from the moving of
auxin from the bright side to the shaded side. Auxin will move away from the bright side.
On the eighth and tenth days, I only took height measurements and recorded the average
for plant height. On the sixth day there was a slight accident that caused 2 of my plants to be
cut off and there was one seed that was contaminated probably due to being held by hand or not
washing well after mixing with alcohol.
