Detailed Lesson Plan

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students can:

 define free fall

 describe objects in free fall
 appreciate the importance of UAM in our daily lives
II. Subject Matter
a. Topic: UNIFORMLY ACCELERATED MOTION (Vertical Dimension)
b. Reference : Grade 9 Learner Activity Sheet 4th Quarter
c. Materials: powerpoint presentation

III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Greetings

 Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am!

B. Prayer

 Before anything else, let us all pray. Dear God Almighty,

May I call on the class president to lead Thank you for this day. Thank you for giving
us in prayer? us the sun to brighten up our day. Thank you
for giving us food to nourish every cell in our
body. Please forgive our sins and help us to be
good creations of your creative hands. Just as
the flow of electrons increases as voltage
source increases, increase the flow of your
blessings as we increase our faith in You, the
source of everything. Please be our Polaris and
guide us in our journey through life this day.
All these we ask in the Name of the One who
bears your DNA,
Amen.

C. Checking of Attendance

 Ms./Mr. Secretary, do we have any No Ma’am we do not have any absences today.
absences today?

Before we continue, let me first give you our

rules for online learning.

 Always keep your microphones muted.

 Do not use the chatbox during
discussion.
 Use the raise hand button if you have
any questions or if you want to answer.
D. Checking of Assignment

 Do we have any assignment? Yes, Ma’am.

 We will check your assignment as we

go on with our discussion.
E. Review of Past Lesson

Before we proceed to our topic today, let’s

have a recall of what we have discussed about
uniformly accelerated motion in the horizontal
dimension.
We will have an activity called “FACT OR Yes, Ma’am!
BLUFF”. I will give you different statements
and you will tell me whether they are fact or
bluff. Are you ready?

1. Objects traveling in uniformly BLUFF

accelerated motion have zero
acceleration.
2. Objects that are traveling in uniformly FACT
accelerated motion have constant
change in velocity.
3. Objects that are traveling in uniformly FACT
accelerated motion have constant
acceleration.
4. It is possible to have a uniformly BLUFF
accelerated motion in EDSA.
5. In the horizontal dimension, speed is FACT
equal to velocity.

Excellent! Now, you are now ready for our

new lesson.

F. Motivation
Now, let us play a game called “TEXT
TWIST”. I will give you words with jumbled
letters and you will rearrange them to form the
correct word. Are you ready?

1. GVARIYT GRAVITY
2. LALFFERE FREE FALL
3. CAECELRAIOTN ACCELERATION
4. COSNTNTA CONSTANT
5.

Very good!

G. Sharing of the lesson’s objectives

These are the objectives that we have to

achieve at the end of the lesson:

 define free fall

 describe objects in free fall
 appreciate the importance of UAM in
our daily lives

Everybody, read.

Does anyone have any questions? The students will read the objectives.

None, Ma’am.
H. Lesson Proper

Last meeting, we learned about the uniformly

accelerated motion in the horizontal dimension.
Today, we will have a new lesson which is also
in relation to uniformly accelerated motion.
But before we begin, let us have a short
activity.

PRE-ACTIVITY

Materials: coin
Procedure:
1. Drop the coin.
2. Toss the coin upward.
3. Throw the coin downward.

1. What did you observe when you drop 1. The coin goes down. Its direction is
the coin? What is the direction of its downward.
motion?
2. What happened to the coin when you 2. The coin goes up and eventually goes down.
tossed it up?
3. What happened to the coin when you 3. The coin goes down. It does not change
throw it downward? Did it change its direction.
direction?
4. Why did the coin fall? What is the force 4. Gravity pulls the coin downward.
acting upon the coin?
5. What is free fall? 5. When only the force acting on an object is
gravity, the object is said to be in free fall.

Free falling objects are only being acted upon

by gravity. Gravity is the reason why we are
not thrown to space. It is the force that keeps
us on the ground.

Last meeting we talked about uniformly Acceleration is the change in velocity over
accelerated motion. Again, what is time.
acceleration?

Very good! Are free falling objects Yes.

accelerating?

Excellent! Free falling objects are accelerating.

Objects in free fall exhibits uniformly
accelerated motion. Again, objects that are
moving in uniformly accelerated motion have a
constant acceleration. All objects on the earth’s
surface are being accelerated toward the centre
or the earth at a rate of 9.8 m/s2. This means
that when you raise an object and drop it, it
will start from rest and its velocity will
increase by 9.8 m/s each second that it is
falling until it strikes the ground.
This is called acceleration due to gravity. The
acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m/s2
neglecting air resistance, is a constant for all
falling bodies, regardless of their mass.
Just like in the horizontal dimension,
uniformly accelerated motion can also be
observed in the vertical or upward dimension.

What we did on our activity are the cases of

free fall.
The first one is when you dropped an object.
The second one is when you throw and object
upward. And last, when you throw and object
downward. All of these exhibit free fall.
Kindly check if the answers on your
assignment are correct.

I. Generalization

 What is free fall?  When only the force acting on an object

is gravity, the object is said to be in free
fall.

 What is acceleration due to gravity?  9.8 m/s2

 What are the cases of free fall?  When an object is dropped, when the
object is thrown upward and when an
object is thrown downward.

J. Application

Identify which among the following exhibits

free fall.

1. Apple falling from tree

2. Man walking
3. Bowling ball rolling
4. Skydiver jumping from a plane
5. Juggler juggling oranges
6. Rock falling from a cliff
7. Book on a table
8. Car running with a constant speed
9. Ball rolling down an inclined plane
10. A hanging picture on the wall
IV. Assessment/ Evaluation

True or False
1. Acceleration is constant in bodies in uniformly accelerated motion.
