Assembly, wiring and commissioning Assembly

Assembly
The basic unit together with any expansion modules are all mounted on a DIN-rail.
Types of DIN-rails: EN 50 022 - 35 x 15
DIN 46 277 - 35 x 15 (see illustration)

Use the following procedure to mount the basic unit or any of the expansion modules:
1. Mount the DIN-rail in the foreseen position.
Leave some spare room above the equipment so that it can be hooked on or off the
mounting rail without any problem (see diagram below):

min. 120

Note: The SELECONTROL® PMC 20 must be positioned such that sufficient

air circulation is assured.

Assembly Assembly, wiring and commissioning

2. Hook the notch on the rear of the module onto the DIN-rail as shown below (1).
In the case of the basic controller unit, first set the DIP-switches (also at the rear of
the module) according to the required configuration.

3. Pull the locking tongue downwards (2) and swing the module backwards against
the DIN-rail (3)

4. Hold the module firmly in place and push the locking tongue upwards (4).

The module is now positively attached to the DIN-rail.

Wiring Assembly, wiring and commissioning

Wiring
Before the modules can be used they must first be electrically connected. Thanks to the
electrical isolation incorporated each module can be supplied from a different power
source or they can be daisy-chained together. Two terminals are provided on each
module for a +24V and 0 V line to be connected.
Detailed wiring diagrams for the individual modules can be found in the section entitled
"Hardware description".
Note: When the power supply is looped from module-to-module and one of
them has to be exchanged, the basic unit will also be cut off from the
supply!

Connecting the equipment

The modules are wiring into a system using front-mounted, pluggable screw-terminal
strips. The inputs and outputs can be wired using stranded leads of up to 1.0 mm2 cross-
section.
The power supply module type PSM 20 serves to connect the equipment directly to the
mains. The method is shown in the following illustration.

Setting the mains voltage

In order to change the mains voltage setting on the power supply module PSM 20 you
have to:
• ensure the mains plug is disconnected to make the unit safe
• remove the module cover by releasing the four fixing screws
• loosen the screws holding the metal links (see illustration below), move the links
into the required position and re-tighten the screws
• replace the module cover

Wiring Assembly, wiring and commissioning

Earthing
The central processor unit (CPU) can be earthed if necessary (e.g. strong interference
effects) by means of the earthing point provided (see diagram below).

Connections to expansion modules

Besides the power supply unit itself, any expansion modules included in the system
must also be connected to the central processor in the basic unit.
A special cable is used for this purpose if such a connection is necessary. The
connecting cables are coded and have to be ordered to suit the configuration.

Assembly, wiring and commissioning Commissioning

Commissioning
Commissioning is carried out by:
• Simulation of the software using a debugger and EPROM-simulator
• Commissioning into the working mode

Simulation of the software

In addition to the various points concerning assembly and wiring already described, we
also recommend the following for checking the programming
• the use of a simulator type SIM 20 to simulate the inputs and outputs, and
• the use of a PC with SELECONTROL® CAP or the use of a programming terminal
(e.g. the SELECONTROL® PSU).

The rows of toggle switches on the SIM 20 simulator serve to simulate different
statuses at the inputs and outputs.
The simulator is mounted in the following manner:
• Remove the connector from the 24 Vdc supply
• Remove the connector strip from the inputs/outputs
• Connect the simulator in place of the connector strip
• Plug the 24 Vdc supply connector into the simulator

A programming terminal or a PC is necessary to program the serial interface. The

connection of either of these items is via the RS 232C port.
Both the SELECONTROL® PMC basic unit as well as the SELECONTROL® PSU
programming terminal are equipped with such an interface.
Connect the basic unit to the programming terminal using a data cable type CCA 3x.
(Further information concerning data cables can be found in the section entitled
"Hardware description")

See the section entitled "Programming examples" for more information on how to
proceed.

Commissioning Assembly, wiring and commissioning

Commissioning into the working mode

The actual working mode for the SELECONTROL® PMC 20 is defined in the fixed
programming of the software which is stored in an EPROM. This means that the
working mode has the effect of
• cyclically processing your user-program
• letting timers run that are started in the program
• inputs and outputs can be read and addressed respectively.

Through the connection of a programming system, this working mode enables data
registers, step counters, markers, inputs and outputs to be checked and altered.
It should be noted that a program cannot be changed while the system is operating in
the working mode. On the other hand, however, there is the possibility of influencing
the running of the program by altering the appropriate parameters, e.g. those concerned
with memory locations, inputs and outputs.
In this way both optimal convenience and the highest degree of safety is achieved
during the commissioning phase.

Uses:
• Checking a program once it has been written
• Commissioning of the system that is under the control of the
SELECONTROL® PMC 20
• Monitoring the execution of a process
