The Tyger by William Blake

m
"The Tyger" is a poem by visionary English poet William

co
Blake. The poet wonders who created the fearsome tiger
and questions whether the same creator created creatures
like the insecure lamb.

In the second stanza, the poet directly addresses a tiger. He

imagines his bright coloured body in a dark forest at night.
The poet wonders which immortal creature would have
created the intimidating beauty of the tiger.
w
The poet now wonders about where would have the tiger’s
fierce eyes been created, would it have been created in the
remote depths or the skies above. The poet now asks if the
r

creator of the tiger had wings and how at all his hands
mustered up the courage to create the tiger.

In the next stanza, the poet acknowledges the effort and

talent required to create the tiger and thinks how the
creator must be so strong that he built the muscular body
of the tiger. The poet asks the tiger’s heart started beating
ta

by whose hands and feet.

In the next stanza, the poet imagines the tools which must
have been used to create the tiger, while he imagines that
pi

it was in a forge that the tiger’s brain was created. The

poet again asks who is the terrifying being who dared to
create the tiger.

The poet now describes a scene when the stars rained on

heaven after surrendering their weapons. The poet won-
ders if during this time, the creator took a look at the tiger
and felt delighted by his accomplishment. He also asks if
the one who created the tiger also created the lamb.

In the end, the speaker takes the opportunity to address

the tiger again. The poet not only wonders who could
create this fear-inducing beast but also wonders who
would dare.
