REACTION MIXTURE WHEN THE

FOLLOWING TAKES PLACE:

A. CHANGE IN CONCENTRATION
OF REACTANTS OR PRODUCTS.
B. CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE

STEM_GC11CE – IVB – E – 151

OBJECTIVES

1.) Describe the behavior of a reaction takes

place in change of concentration and
temperature.
2.) Discuss how the behavior of reaction takes
place in change of concentration and
temperature.
3.) Give an example equation of the change in
concentration and temperature.

Major Ideas

Changes in Concentration

⇒ Adding a reactant or product, the equilibria shifts

away from the increase order to consume part of the
added substance.
⇒ Removing a reactant or product, the equilibria shifts
toward the decrease to replace part of the removed
species.

Example:
Changes in Temperature

⇒ Heat can be considered a reactant in an endothermic

rxn and a product in an exothermic rxn.

⇒ If you increase the temperature of a reaction, the

equilibrium will shift in the endothermic direction to
absorb the extra heat.
⇒ Decreasing the reaction temperature will shift the
equilibrium in the exothermic direction to replace the
lost heat.
⇒ If the change means more product is formed, Kc will
increase. If it means less product is formed, then Kc
will decrease.
