“INDUSTRIAL SECURITY MANAGEMENT”

PART 2

TYPES OF FULL VIEW FENCE

CHAIN LINK FENCES (Permanent Structure)

o Must be constructed in 7 feet material excluding the top guard
o Must be of 9 gauge or heavier
o Mesh opening must not be larger than 2 inches
o Securely fastened to rigid material or reinforced concrete
o Reach within 2 inches of hard ground or paving
o On soft ground, it must reach below surface deep enough to compensate for
shifting soil or sand.

BARBED WIRE FENCES (Semi-Permanent)

o Standard barbed wire is twisted double strand, 12 gauge wires, with 4 point
barb spaced on equal distant part.
o Barbed wire fencing should not be less than 7 feet high, excluding the top
guard.
o Barbed wire fencing must be firmly affixed to post not more than 6 feet apart.
o The distance between strands will not exceed 6 inches and at least one wire
will be interlock vertical and midway between posts.

CONCERTINA WIRE FENCES (Least Permanent

o Standard concertina barbed is a commercial manufactured wire coil of high
strength steel barbed wire clipped together at intervals to form cylinder.
o Opened concertina wire is 50 feet long and 3 feet in diameter.

TYPES OF PERIMETER BARRIER OPENING

o GATES AND DOORS- It should be locked and regularly checked by guards
when not in active use and controlled by guards; locks should be change from
time to time
o SIDEWALK ELEVATOR- These provide access to areas within the perimeter
barrier and should be locked or guarded.
o CLEAR ZONE – it refers to unobstructed area maintain on both sides of the
perimeter barrier. It affords better observation and patrol movement. It should
be cleared of anything that may provide concealment or assistance to a
person seeking an authorized entry.
o 20 feet or more between the perimeter barrier and exterior structure.
(Outside)
o 50 feet or more between the perimeter barrier and structure within the
protected areas.(Inside)

ADDITIONAL PROTECTIVE BARRIERS

o TOP GUARD – an additional overhead of barbed wire placed on vertical
perimeter fences fencing upwards and outward with a 45* angle with three to
four strands of barbed wires spread 6” apart.
o GUARD CONTROL STATIONS - normally provided at main perimeter
entrances to secure areas located out of doors, and manned by guards on a
full time basis.
o TOWER/GUARD TOWER –house-like structures above the perimeter
barriers. It gives a psychological effect to violators.
o PROTECTION IN DEPTH – in large open areas or ground where fencing or
walling is impracticable and expensive, warning signs should be
conspicuously placed.

o SIGNS AND NOTICE – “control signs” should be created necessary in the

management of unauthorized access, and prevent accidental entry. Signs
should be plainly visible and legible from any approach and in under
language. Signs on entry shall also be posted at all principal entries.

PROTECTIVE LIGHTING
o It must produce sufficient light to create psychological deterrent to intrusion as
well as to make detection virtually certain in the event an entry is made
o Protective lighting will designed either to emphasize the illumination of the
perimeter barrier and the outside approaches.
o The system must be reliable and designed with overlapping illumination to
avoid creating unprotected area in the event of individual light failure.

PURPOSE OF PROTECTIVE LIGHTING

o It improves visibility so that intruders can be seen, identified or apprehend.
o It gives Psychological fear, which serves as a deterrent,
o It makes easier for guards to identify employees and vehicles during night
time.
o It may even reduce the number of stationary guards.

TYPES OF PROTECTIVE LIGHTING

STATIONARY LUMINARY - This is a common type consisting of series of fixed
luminous flood a given area continuously with overlap. Commonly used in Entry
gates of employees and vehicles.
o GLARE-PROJECTION TYPE- The intensity is focused on the intruder while
the observer guard remained in the comparative darkness. The lighting is
toward of the approach of an entrance to an installation.
o CONTROLLED LIGHTING TYPE- The lighting is focused on the pile of items,
rather than the back ground. The wealth of the lighted strip can be controlled
and adjusted to suit the security needs.

STANDBY LIGHTING- This system is similar to continuous lighting but it is turn on

manually or by special device or other automatic means.

MOVEABLE LIGHTING- This consist of stationary or portable, manually operated

searchlights. The searchlights may be lighted continuously during the hours of
darkness nor only as needed, it is just a supplementary to other protective or security
Lighting.
EMERGENCY LIGHTING- This standby lighting may be utilized in the event of
electric failure, either due to local equipment or commercial failure.

TYPES OF LIGHT LAMPS

INCANDESCENT LAMPS- These are common light bulbs that are found in every
home. They have the advantage of providing instant illumination when the switch is
thrown and most commonly used protective lighting system.

GASEOUS-DISCHARGE LAMP - The use of this in protective lighting is limited

since they require a period of two to five minutes to light when they are cold and
even longer period to light, when hot, after a power interruption, it is very economical
to use but for industrial security it is not acceptable due to long time of lighting.
o MERCURY VAPOR LAMPS -These lamps give ablue green color light due to
the presence of mercury vapor. Its initial cost is higher than incandescent
lamps of the same wattage but is more efficient and giver more light. This is
widely used in interior and exterior lighting.
o SODIUM VAPOR LAMP - These lamps emits Yellow Light. It is an efficient
bulb and due to its color, these light lamps are used in areas where insect
predominate. Amber color does not attract insects at night.

QUARTS LAMP - These lamps emits very bright white light and instant on almost as
rapidly as the incandescent lamp. They are frequently used at very high wattage and
they are excellent for use along the perimeter barrier.

TYPES OF LIGHTING EQUIPMENT

FLOODLIGHTS - projects light in a concentrated beam. Best used in boundaries,
building or fences. Otherwise known as reflectorized or spotlight.

SEARCHLIGHTS - highly focused incandescent lamps used in pinpointing potential

intruders

FRESNEL LIGHTS - Wide beam unit, primarily to extend the illumination in long
horizontal stripsto protect the approaches to the perimeter. It projects a narrow,
horizontal beam which is approximately 180 degrees in the horizontal and 15 to 30
degrees in the vertical plane.

STREET LIGHTS - produced diffused light rather than direction beam. They are
widely used in parking areas

AREAS TO BE LIGHTED
o Vehicular Gates
o Pedestrian Gates
o Thoroughfares
o Parking Areas
o Sensitive Areas

PROTECTIVE ALARM
o These different alarms of various types and cost can be installed indoors and
outdoors.
o Basically alarms system is designed to alert security personnel for possible
intruder.
o It is used to assist security to complement if not supplement physical barriers
is an array of alarms.

BASIC PARTS OF ALARM SYSTEM

o SENSOR OR TRIGGER DEVICE – It emits the aural or visual signals or both.
o TRANSMISSION LINE – A circuit which transmits the message to the
signaling apparatus.
o ENUNCIATOR/ANNUNCIATOR–It is the signaling system that activates the
alarm.

TYPES OF ALARMS SYSTEM

METALLIC FOIL OR WIRE
o It will detect any action that moves or break the foil or wire.
o It is commonly used in window or glass surfacesof building or compound, all
possible point of entry can be wired by using electrically charge strips of tinfoil
or wire.

PHOTOELECTRIC OR ELECTRIC EYE DEVICE

o A light beam is transmitted at a frequency of several thousand vibrations per
second.
o It is connected by a wire to control station and when an intruder crosses the
beam he breaks the contact with the photoelectric coil which thus activates
the alarm.

AUDIO DETECTION DEVICE

o It is a supersensitive microphone speaker sensor that is installed in walls,
ceilings, and floors of the protected area.
o Any sound caused by attempted forced entryis detected by file censor.

VIBRATION DETECTION DEVICE

o The vibration-sensitive sensor is attached to walls, ceilings or floors of the
protected areas.
o Any vibration caused by attempted force entry is detected by the sensor.
