Physical Activities based on the Philippine
Physical Activity Pyramid

Background Information for Learners


Physical Activity Pyramid is a visual representation demonstrating how to increase
physical activity until it becomes a part of daily routine. It is a visual representation with
daily recommended activity at the base and proceeding to less beneficial activity at the peak.
There are four types of activity in a Physical Activity Pyramid.
a. Moderate activities (Step1)- has activities like brisk walking, playing outside,
biking and hiking for a short time. This also includes active play. They are at the
base of the pyramid. They are the most done activities. They can be done more often.
They are activities that increases the heart rate.
b. Vigorous activities (Step2)-are activities that make the heartbeat fast. Example of
this activities are fast biking, intense jogging, volleyball and playing basketball.
c. Exercise Activity (Step 3)-Climbing on a building, push-ups, curl-ups, and dancing
d. Minimal Activity (Step 4)- This are the activities that should be done occasionally
such as watching TV, playing video games and working at the computer for a long
period of time.

Regular participation to physical activities improves one physical fitness, such


can be assessed by self- testing exercises.
Self-testing exercises are activities that one does repeatedly to achieve goal –
to improve one`s own fitness level. They consist of exercises that improves one`s
endurance, strength, and flexibility.

B. To do self-testing exercises everyone should always observes safety precautions.

Every P.E. class needs to have clear safety rules/precautions and procedures to
prevent injuries and provide a secure learning environment

a. Flexibility- The player needs to bend and move smoothly to hit level of the
garter.
b. Balance- The player supports his/her position whether he/she would jump or

Activity 3: Target Game Project


1. Your class will be grouped into four.
2. From the materials in the list, create a new target game.
3. After 10 minutes, give your instruction to your classmates.
4. You need to consider the following in the game you are creating:

b. scoring system
c. name of the game
d. rules and objective of the game
equipment/materials to be used
e. skills involved (flexibility, balance, coordination)
5. Present the new game in the class.

Activity 4: Lets have fun!
Note:
Chinese Garter is a popular game for Filipino children, most specifically
among girls during their elementary years. The game revolves around an ordinary
garter around two to three yards long that can be brought easily.
Procedures and Rules of Chinese Garter
1. The players are divided into two or more teams with two or more members per team.
2. The “IT” will be chosen by doing “Jack en Poy”.
3. The “IT” team will serve as posts who will stand from opposite sides, who will hold
the ends of the garter.
4. Each team also has a leader called the “Mother” or “Father”. Once a team member
either touches the garter or falls to jump at a certain level, the mother can still save
her team by taking her team member’s turn.
5. If the mother/father fails, they become the next game posts and the game starts from
level one.
6. The mother or father jumps over the garter on the last level by flying in the air or
doing cartwheel.
7. The games have 10 levels. These games can have different levels depending on
what the players agreed on.

• Level 1- The garter is held by the game posts closer to the ground
• Level 2- knee high,
• Level 3- hip high,
• Level 4-waist high,
• Level 5- chest high,
• Level 6- shoulder high,
• Level 7 –head high,
• Level 8- Top of head high,
• Level 9- One hand high from the head,
• Level 10- Arm rising and the post doing tiptoe.

1. The class will be divided into four teams.


2. Two teams will be labeled Group A and another two teams will be labeled
Group B.
3. The teams from each group will play Chinese Garter following the rules given
by the teacher.
4. The winner from each group will compete against each other.

Background Information for Learners


Playing either individual or team events requires self-discipline. Moreover, being fair and
showing respect to the teammates and opponents during physical activity develops a good
camaraderie among the group.
Always remember, one who can manage to smile, give high five/shake hands saying “you
did well” after losing the game is certainly a good sport, and that shows sportsmanship.
This time, based on the games you performed on your PE lesson, let us see if you showed
an effort of joy, respect and fairness to your classmates by answering the given activities.
