admission portal of the University.
4. All necessary documents to be uploaded must be adequately scanned in PDF or JPEG

5. All the files uploaded must be visible and reproducible.
6. Size of the file/document (maximum 50 kb for JPEG and 200 kb for PDF).
7. Applicants who failed to submit the online forms may visit Bodoland University during
office hours with all the relevant documents from 2nd to 15th September 2021.
8. The dates mentioned above are subject to change as per Govt. notification due to the
on-going pandemic.
9. The provisionally admitted candidates must furnish the mark sheets of the final
examination as and when asked for. Otherwise, the admission will be cancelled.
10. The Migration certificate must be furnished whenever the University asks for.
11. The original documents will be verified at the time of counselling for admission.
12. Anti-ragging
a) Applicants will have to submit duly completed Anti-Ragging Form as and when asked by
the University.
b) Notification in regards to the Anti-ragging form will be served separately.

MESSAGE

In recent times Bodoland University is emerging as the leading higher educational institution in
lower Assam, the home to numerous ethnic communities. Higher education is the key to
economic, social, cultural and environmentally sustainable development. The mission of the
university is to transform youths of today into leaders of tomorrow by providing quality higher
education, skill development and engaging in research of regional, national, industrial and public
policy relevance. The university emphasizes creativity, innovation, collaboration, and
interdisciplinary learning with wide-ranging courses on humanities, social sciences, biological
sciences, management studies, science and technologies. The university has evolved a blended
improvised online and offline mode of conducting examinations, lectures, assessment,
assignments and projects for uninterrupted education and continuing academic sessions for
mitigating lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic and to encourage and promote extra-
curricular engagement of students at the state and national level in sports, literary meet,
exhibition, NSS, NCC, Swath Bharat, National Integration and other programmes.

The teaching and learning environment of Bodoland University is among the best in the state of
Assam. Students-teacher relation in the university is friendly and genuinely professional;
students have access to teachers at all times for academic and career consultation. Faculties of
the university are drawn from various disciplines, and specializations had years of teaching and
mentoring experience to their credit. To care for and educate every student is the motto of the
University faculties.

The two-year master courses offered by the university prepare students to manoeuvre social-
cultural, economic, developmental and environmental challenges and craft solutions benefiting
everyone. The university inculcates broad-based knowledge and analytical skills in their
disciplines through lecture, practical, fieldwork, presentation, group discussion, and community
engagement. It provides imprints for broader social and community outlooks. The university has
the best collection of textbooks, journals, e-journals, thesis and periodicals with reading room
facilities for research scholars. The working hours of the library extend till late night and
operational on holidays during preparatory and examinations period. The recently RFID system
in the library makes it convenient for self-issue and return of borrowed books.

Hostels for girls and boys are the second home of students and provide an ambience for
community life caring one another, collective management of mess with the flexibility to choose
the menu of students’ choice. Wardens take care of maintaining disciplines in the hostels and the
security of hostellers. The university dispensary with two doctors, two nurses, one pharmacist
and an ambulance look after the health of students and employees of the university and
medicines for common illness is made available accessible. Director of Students’ Welfare heads
the Grievance Cell of Students to address students' grievances and organizes periodic meetings
of wardens and students to assess and address day-to-day issues concerning students’ needs and
requirements. Dear parents and students avail the opportunity to enrol in post graduate courses at
Bodoland University, educate, build a career, serve society and live an accomplished life.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

Bodoland University is a state university established by the Bodoland University Act, 2009 of
the Assam Legislative Assembly on 28th February 2009. It is one of the growing universities
in lower Assam accredited under Ssection 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. It is the only
institution of higher education in the western part of Assam to address the need and concern
for all-round development of the region. Bodoland University is committed to the academic
development of lower Assam in general and the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The
university provides an opportunity for higher studies to the populace of this region. It also
caters to the educational needs of the adjoining states and neighboring countries like Bhutan,
Nepal, and Bangladesh.
There are 17 PG Departments and 48 Affiliated Degree Colleges, Four DIET and
Three B.Ed. Colleges. Bodoland University runs the Academic Curriculum following the
Choice-Based Credit System of UGC. Along with core subjects, Bodoland University also
provides Diploma in Bamboo Technology, Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights &
Education (PGDHRE), and several certificate courses. The Padmashri Modaram Brahma
Central Library provides knowledge and wisdom with multifaceted facilities. Besides, the
University also has Health Centre, Technology Incubation Centre, Intellectual Property Right
Cell, Bus service and Hostel Facilities for students and research scholars.
The picturesque campus of the University is located at Rangalikhata, Debargaon ten
km north of Kokrajhar town. The location of the University makes it possible for students and
researchers across the border to get access to the University conveniently. The University is
well-connected by a surface road network including National Highway 31, Broad-gauge
Railway, and Airways at Rupsi Airport (70 kms). The international boundary of Bangladesh
(110 kms) and Bhutan (40 kms) and the state boundary of West Bengal (45 kms) are
accessible by roadways. The University has two additional plots of land at Haldibari (3 kms)
and Subaijhar (1.5 kms) for further extension.

2. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
I. ELIGIBILITY FOR M.A. / M.Sc / M.Com.
(a) B.A. / B.Sc / B.Com. (10+2+3 pattern) with Honours course / Major in the
concerned subject with 45%.
(b) B.A. / B.Sc / B.Com. (10+2+3 pattern) with Regular Course / Pass Course /
General with 50% marks or equivalent grades subject to availability of vacant
seats.
(c) Relaxation of Marks: Candidates for the reserved quota (SC / ST) shall be given
relaxation up to 5% of the marks. The relaxation will not apply to candidates
seeking admission in any other reserved quota.
(d) Preference will be given to Honours students
II. ELIGIBILITY FOR M.Sc COMPUTER SCIENCE & INFORMATION
TECHNOLOGY
(a) B.Sc (10+2+3 pattern) with Major / Honours course in the concerned subject.
(b) BCA / B.Sc (IT) (10+2+3 pattern) with Mathematical Science in 10+2 level.
(c) B.Sc (in the 10+2+3 pattern) with Computer Science / Information Technology
as a pass course / elective subject.
(d) B.Sc (10+2+3 pattern) with General Pass course with one year Computer
Diploma (Post-Graduate) from recognized institute and Mathematical Sciences
in (10+2) 1evel.
(e) B.E. / B.Tech. (CSE or IT)
III. ELIGIBILITY FOR M.Sc BIOTECHNOLOGY
(a) Science Graduate having Honours in any of the Biological Sciences with 45%
marks or equivalent Grade.
(b) B.Sc (10+2+3 pattern) in Regular Course / Pass Course / General having
Biological Sciences with 50% marks or equivalent grades subject to availability
of vacant seats.
(c) Relaxation of Marks: Candidates for the reserved quota (SC/ST) shall be given
relaxation up to 5% of the marks. The relaxation will not apply to candidates
seeking admission in any other reserved quota.
IV. ELIGIBILITY FOR DBT (DIPLOMA IN BAMBOO TECHNOLOGY)
H.S. passed (any stream).
V. ELIGIBILITY FOR M.B.A.
(a) A Bachelor Degree of 10+2+3 pattern with a minimum of 50% marks or
equivalent grade in aggregate or in Major / Honours subject (if any) from any
recognized University.

(b) Relaxation of Marks: Candidates for reserved quota (SC/ST) shall be given
relaxation up to 5% of the marks. The relaxation will not be applicable to
candidates seeking admission in any other reserved quota.
VI. ELIGIBILITY FOR MCA
(a) A bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration in any discipline with at least
50% marks in major /Honours subject or 55% marks in aggregate for those
candidates having no major/honours.
(b) Relaxation of Marks: Candidates for the reserved quota (SC/ST) shall be given
relaxation up to 5% of the marks. The relaxation will not apply to candidates
seeking admission in any other reserved quota.
(c) Candidates must have passed in Mathematics as a subject at 10+2 level or
graduation level.
VII. ELIGIBILITY FOR PGDHRE
(a) Graduate in any discipline with 45% marks or equivalent grade.
(b) Relaxation of Marks: Candidates for the reserved quota (SC/ST) shall be given
relaxation up to 5% of the marks. The relaxation will not apply to candidates
seeking admission in any other reserved quota.
VIII. ELIGIBILITY FOR B.Ed.
(a) Graduate or equivalent degree from any stream from recognized university with
at least 50% mark in aggregate.
(b) In case of an applicant who failed to secure 50% in the UG course, then the
candidate must have secured 55% in the PG course.
(c) Relaxation of Marks: Candidates for the reserved quota (SC / ST) shall be given
relaxation up to 5% of the marks. The relaxation will not apply to candidates
seeking admission in any other reserved quota.
(d) Teachers deputed by the Govt. of Assam for the course must submit a study
leave certificate / No Objection Certificate from their concerned employers
along with the application.
IX. ELIGIBILITY FOR M.Ed.
(a) B.Ed. / B.T. of Bodoland University or other university recognised by UGC with
at least 55% marks in aggregate as per latest NCTE norms.
(b) Relaxation of Marks: Candidates for the reserved quota (SC / ST) shall be given
relaxation up to 5% of the marks. The relaxation will not apply to candidates
seeking admission in any other reserved quota.
(c) Teachers deputed by the Govt. of Assam for the course must submit a study
leave certificate / No Objection Certificate from their concerned employers
along with the application.
X. CERTIFICATE COURSE IN BODO
(a) Graduate in any discipline with 45% marks or equivalent grade.
(b) Relaxation of Marks: Candidates for the reserved quota (SC/ST) shall be given
relaxation up to 5% of the marks. The relaxation will not apply to candidates
seeking admission in any other reserved quota.
XI. ELIGIBILITY FOR Ph.D
Admission to the Ph.D Programme shall be made normally at the beginning of the
academic year. Any person with at least 55% marks or equivalent Grade (50% mark

equivalent Grade in case of SC/ST candidates) in a Master's Degree of any
University / Institution recognized by the UGC (Recognised Statutory Body for
Foreign Students) in concerned and allied subjects. All candidates shall have to
appear in the admission test followed by a personal interview conducted by the
concerned Department.

3. RESERVATION QUOTA

(a) 80% of seats will be reserved for the students of affiliated colleges of Bodoland
University. The remaining 20% is open for admission on merit basis to all
recognised Universities, including Bodoland University.
(b) Reservation of seats for the students belonging to different categories will be as per
the Government Rules mentioned below:

ADMISSION ON THE BASIS OF SPORTS / EXTRA-CURRICULAR


ACTIVITIES

For admission against the quota allotted for extra-curricular activities like Cultural, Sports,
NCC, Scouts & Guides, NSS, etc., the candidates must furnish the requisite documents.

A maximum of two seats may be offered by the concerned Department for admission to M.A.
/ M.Sc /M.B.A. / MCA / M.Com. / M.Ed. / B.Ed. courses to students within intake
capacity who have shown extraordinary proficiency in extracurricular activities in the
last three years preceding graduation. Any sport/event organized by an association must
be recognized by and affiliated to the National body for that sport/event and by Indian
Olympic Association.

Preference will be given to candidates in the following order:
a) Those who have represented the country in International events;
b) Those who have represented their states in the National/International events;
c) Those who have represented their institutions in International/National events;
d) Those who have won prize at recognized International/National level events;
e) Those who have won p rize at recognized State level competitions;
f) Those who have obtained NCC ‘C’ Certificates or participated in the Republic Day
Parade at the National level under NCC;
g) Those who have represented the University in NSS Camp at the National level or
participated in the Republic Day Parade at the National level under NSS

4. COURSE DURATION

1. M.A. / M.Sc / M.B.A / M.Com. : 2 years (4 Semesters)


2. MCA : 2 years (4 Semesters)
3. M.Ed. : 2 years (4 Semesters)
4. B.Ed. : 2 years (4 Semesters)
5. D.B.T. : 1 year (2 Semesters)
6. PGDHRE : 1 year (2 Semesters)
7. Certificate Course in Bodo : 06 months (1 Semester)
8. Ph.D : As per B.U. Ph.D regulation

5. HOW TO APPLY

1. The candidate must carefully go through the online prospectus and be acquainted with all
the requirements before filling the online Application Form.
2. A candidate can apply in different departments separately.
3. Scanned copy (PDF format) of the original certificates/documents should be uploaded:
i) Degree mark-sheets (as indicated in the online Application Form)
(a) For PG course: Candidate who have completed 3 year degree course need to
upload all the mark-sheets and certificates. Candidates who have appeared in 6th
semester examination need to upload 5th or 6th semester admit card.
(b) For MCA: Candidates who have cleared the final semester UG examination must
upload all the mark sheets. The candidates appeared/appearing in final semester UG
examinations may upload final semester admit card.
(c) Candidates who have passed UG Final semester Examination, including B.Ed./B.T.
need to upload only the Final semester mark-sheet.
(d) Applicants with more than one mark-sheet / grade-sheet in a particular semester
(repeaters/betterment) must upload all the mark-sheet / grade-sheet in a single PDF
file.

ii) Relevant documents (e.g., 10th standard pass certificate/admit card/birth certificate) for
age verification.
iii) Relevant certificate(s) from the concerned authority when applying for admission
under any category of reservation.
iv) 10th and 12th standard mark sheets and pass certificates.
v) In the case of B.Ed. and M.Ed. Programme applicants deputed by Govt. of Assam
must submit a study leave certificate / No Objection Certificate from their concerned
employers.
vi) The applicants who passed the qualifying examination earlier than the current year
will have to submit a gap certificate from any of the following:
a) The Head of the Institution last attended
b) Officer-in-charge of the nearest Police Station
c) Govt. Gazetted Officer is testifying his/her activities during the interim period.
d) Medical Certificate from the Govt. Medical Officer on the genuine medical
ground(s)
e) Chairperson, VCDC / PRI

6. SELECTION AND ADMISSION PROCEDURE

a) Admission in B.Ed., M.Ed., and all PG, Diploma and Certificate courses will be purely on
the basis of entrance tests.
b) The University will separately notify the entrance test for admission in Ph.D programme.
c) The in-service candidates admitted for Ph.D will have to submit No Objection Certificate
from the Head of the Institution at the time of application. The Departmental Research
Committee (DRC) will decide the number of Ph.D scholars guided by a supervisor
following Bodoland University Ph.D regulations.
d) If a forged document submitted by a candidate is detected even after admission, the
admission will stand cancelled.
e) The Admission Committee has every right to refuse admission if the candidate fails to
produce the original documents when asked for.
f) The decision of the Admission Committee regarding admission is final.

7. CANCELLATION OF SEATS

A student failing to attend classes for seven days at a stretch from the date of commencement
of classes shall forfeit his / her seat.

6. ATTENDANCE

75% class attendance is compulsory to appear in all end semester examinations.

7. SUPREME COURT RULES REGARDING ANTI-RAGGING
a. As per the direction of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, the Government has
banned ragging completely in any form inside and outside the campus.
Accordingly, Bodoland University authority is determined not to allow any form of
ragging. Whosoever directly or indirectly commits, participates in, abets, or
instigates ragging within or outside the University shall have an FIR lodged against
him/her, and he/she will be suspended or rusticated from the institution and shall
also be liable to be fined which may extend to Rs. 10,000/-. In case the applicant
for admission is found to have indulged in ragging in the past or if it is noticed later
that he/she has indulged in ragging, admission can be refused or he/she shall be
expelled from the institution. The punishment may also include suspension from
attending the classes, withholding / withdrawing fellowship/scholarship and other
financial benefits or withholding the result.
b. The candidate, as well as his / her parents, during the admission will be required
to furnish an undertaking in the form of an affidavit that the candidate will not
indulge in any form of ragging.

c. Submission of Affidavits on Ragging


All admitted students will have to submit two duly-filled Affidavits on Ragging to
the concerned Head of Department as and when asked for. Students admitted to
hostels will have to submit a second set of the two Affidavits to the Warden of the
concerned hostel as and when asked for.

10. FEE STRUCTURE FOR PG/DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE COURSES

Eligibility criteria for free admission as per Govt. notification


1. Students whose parental annual income is less than Rs. 2 lakhs from all sources.
2. If either of the parent (mother or father) of the student is working in the state government,

The Department of Assamese was established in 1998 after the establishment of the Kokrajhar
campus of Gauhati University. The Department of Assamese has now completed its glorious

The Department of Assamese was established with the vision of preservation and enrichment

The Department of Bodo was established in 1998, while the institution was a constituent
campus under the Gauhati University. Since its inception, the Department has been taking the
initiative to acquaint students in language, literature and culture in response to the demands of
the time. The Department is offering M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D in Bodo. The motto of the
Department is to provide comprehensive ideas and knowledge of the Bodo language,
literature, and the composite culture of the Bodos from a folkloristic point of view. The

The Department of English started functioning in 1998 with the establishment of the
Kokrajhar campus of Gauhati University for the academic upliftment of the people of lower
Assam. In 2001, Gauhati University introduced a semester system replacing the traditional
system of the syllabus, which had been continuing for a long time.
Apart from teaching and research on the English language and literature, English
Department has been striving to give students and researchers interdisciplinary knowledge
and outlook, keeping in view the global academic demand and pursuit. The Department
engages students in interpreting literature in the light of theories prevalent in the leading
universities of the world and promotes research activities. Since the Department is committed
to the development of the region, besides making the students sensible in the field of literature
and culture and making them fit for the job market or making them capable of picking up the
right career after University education, it also gives them new insight to interpret their
literature and culture which may occupy a significant position in World Literature. Hence,
English Department, in its present perspective, analyses Indian studies from different angles
of global thought and scholarship. MA (English) syllabus of Bodoland University is a well
designed, innovative and compact course that covers a vast area ranging from British
literature, European Literature, American Literature, African Literature, Indian Literature, to

The Department was established in 2008. The Department started to offer Ph.D programme
from the academic session of 2013-2014. The Department is well equipped with an
instrumentation facility and basic laboratory amenities for catering to the need of students.
Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, has selected this Department to establish
an Institute level Biotech Hub and Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility for infrastructure and

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. The Department has adopted the Pachim Saralpara Bapuji Lower Primary School at
Saralpara, Ultapani of Kokrajhar district from 2019-2020. The Department has donated
the teaching-learning and sports materials for the children and the school for academic
upliftment.
2. The DBT-GoI sponsored Technology Incubation Center at Bodoland University has
initiated the production of low-cost membrane face masks, Hand Sanitizers etc., to
contribute to the Nationwide resistance towards the present corona crisis.
3. Around 1260 hand-made face masks have been made and distributed. Furthermore, about
835 litres of Hand Sanitizers have been distributed (5300 bottles of different volumes).
4. Organized an invited talk on ‘Dissemination of the history and knowledge of the freedom
struggle of India’ funded by the Ministry of Culture (Govt. of India) on 6th August 2019.
5. Organized an observation of ‘World Bamboo Day’ on 18th September 2019.

The Department of Botany was established in 2014 and offers M.Sc degree in Botany. The
Department has also introduced Ph.D programme since 2017. Since its inception, the
Department of Botany has remained at the forefront of teaching and research in Botany. The
Department aims to provide quality based higher education in the field of plant sciences
catering for the needs of many in the region. The Department emphasizes to promote
integrated understanding and utilization of plants in various conventional and frontier areas of

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

Department of Chemistry was established in 2014, and since then, it has been offering M.Sc
course. The Department started its Ph.D programme in 2018. Some of the major research
areas are Biodiesel, Catalysis, Natural Products, Synthesis of Inorganic Compounds, Materials
Science and Polymer Chemistry. The Department has four laboratories (two for M.Sc
practical and two for research work) to carry out practical and research activities. The
Department is well-equipped with all the essential laboratory facilities for PG practical. It has
instruments like precision electronic balance, heating oven, vacuum oven, rotary evaporator,
magnetic stirring & heating plate with precision temperature controller, nitrogen gas
circulation assembly and sophisticated instruments like UV-Vis and HPLC cum GPC. The
Department had received eight (08) desktop computers from NTPC, Bongaigaon under CSR–
CD NTPC to set up a computer lab for students. The fund received from a DST-SERB
sponsored research project has also been used to develop the DST-SERB sponsored research
lab infrastructure. Currently, some of our passed-out students have been pursuing their Ph.D
at different Institutions and Universities like IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, NEIST (Jorhat),
NEHU (Shillong), IASST (Boragaon, Guwahati), Tezpur University, Gauhati University and
Bodoland University.

Geography is a diverse discipline that bridges the arts and social and natural sciences,
providing a comprehensive education that discusses pressing issues including environmental
change, regional and global inequalities and the transmutation of global economy and culture.
Geography studies the places and the relationships between people and their environments.
Geographers explore both the physical properties of Earth's surface and the human societies
spread across it. By studying Geography, students obtain a unified view of the rapidly-
changing world and how society influences and are influenced by it. The Bodoland University
Geography focuses on the interrelationship between the physical and human environment.
The Department was established under the faculty of Environment Studies in August 2015, is
committed to delivering its curriculum to resume education for the refurbishment of our
physical and social environment. Thus, anybody who wants a career that takes him outside the
walls of an office or solves global problems should consider studying geography. The degrees
in geography offer concentrations to prepare graduates for multiple career paths.

In the Master degree course, students are introduced to a spectrum of geographical topics and
Remote Sensing and GIS in the first two semesters that are followed up in more detail in the
final year. Students must perform 92 credits to earn a master degree in Geography. With full-
time enrolment, students can become a post-graduate in two years.

FIELDWORK OPPORTUNITIES
In teaching Geography, we emphasize the importance of fieldwork since we believe there is
no substitute for teaching subjects first-hand. Thus, in the second semester, students take part
in a week-long field course within the country. In the final semester, students will do
independent research in the field and submit a dissertation for evaluation.

Ph.D PROGRAMME
The Department has opened up the opportunity for research by introducing Ph.D in 2019.
With the present faculty position, Geography of Bodoland University endeavours to study the
multifaceted predicament and concerns related to the environment and society faced by the
region. Most of us do research that addresses the core concerns of environmental and social
issues. We seek to understand inequalities within and across the country and the world and
understand how the study of the environment and social issues can help eliminate constraints

1. Ph.D programme: The selection of candidates for a Ph.D in the Geography
department for the session 2020 through BURET 21 scheduled on 25.03.21. The
shortlisted candidates were interviewed on 08.04.21 by the members of the
Departmental Research Committee to select to fill up the seven vacant seats for Ph.D
research. The Ph.D programme of the Department covers broadly Physical and Social
Geography. The Department has decided to focus on initiating an investigation to
address the growing issues of BTR and the nation.
2. Felicitation to renowned Geographer: On April 10 2021, Professor Dulal Chandra
Goswami was conferred honour with enormous gratitude by his fellow students and
several academic and philanthropic organizations by unfolding a book Abhinandan
dedicated to him. On this august occasion, the Department of Geography of Bodoland
University took the opportunity to felicitate the most honoured academician,
researcher of this region for his outstanding contribution to North East India and the
nation.
Prof. Dulal Chandra Goswami was a professor in the Department of Geography of GU
and retired Head of the Department of Environmental Science at GU. He was a Colin
Mackenzie Chair Professor at Anna University, Chennai, in 2004. He was associated
with John Hopkins University (USA), Howard University (USA), NASA Project
(USA), NASA, Department of Space, India, Assam Remote Sensing Application
Centre at Guwahati.
3. World Environment Day was observed by the Department of Geography in
collaboration with NSS CELL, Bodoland University, from 1st to June 5 2021. In the
programme, PG students and NSS volunteers of Colleges under BU, including BU,
planted saplings of trees from 1st to June 4. Prof. On June 5, the WED 2021 was
inaugurated by Laishram Ladusingh, Vice-Chancellor, BU, followed by a special
lecture by Dr Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, Scientist G & Founder of Aarnyak (a leading
NGO of Northeast India)

4. Participated in National Science Day 2021: The PG students of the Department
participated in the National Science Day 21 organized under the Faculty of Sciences
on February 28 2021, and March 1 2021. The students of the Geography Department
participated in the Poster presentation to present their models with high enthusiasm.
5. Workshop on Choosing Appropriate Data Visualization and Statistical Methods was
organized on June 19 2021. The programme was inaugurated by the honourable Vice-
Chancellor of Bodoland University, Prof. Laishram Ladusingh. Dr. Preeti Dhillon,
Assistant Professor from the Department of Mathematical Demography and Statistics
at International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai, was the resource person of
the workshop.
6. An International Online Webinar was conducted by the Department of Geography
of Bodoland University in collaboration with the Research Innovation and Extension
Committee for NAAC, Bodoland University, on the 19th and the 20th of July, 2021.
The webinar was organized to fulfil the essential methodological requirements of the
young researchers in different humanities, social sciences, and general sciences. The
first Lecture entitled "Understanding Research Integrity, Ethics and Plagiarism" of the
webinar was delivered by Prof. Hiranya K. Nath, from the Department of Economics
and International Business, Sam Heuston State University Huntsville, the US, on July
19. Dr. Rituparna Bhattacharyya delivered the second Lecture of the webinar, SFHEA
(Senior Fellow, Advance Higher Education) and Editor in Chief (Joint) of Journal of
Space and Culture, on July 20, 2021, on the title “Working for Scholarly Outlets."
7. National Webinar on "Problems and Prospects of Socio-Economic Development and
Demographic Issues of Scheduled Tribes of North-East India" during 30–31 July
2021. Prof. U.K. De of Economics Department, NEHU delivered a plenary speech on
'Socio-Economic Development issues under Pandemic in India' in the first plenary
session, and Prof. Laishram Ladusingh, Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University,
spoke on 'Stitching demographics and epidemiological transitions' in the second
plenary session. Dr. M Hemanta Meitei of Economics Department, Manipur
University, Prof. B. K. Kar of Geography Department, Gauhati University, Prof. Sujit
Deka, HoD of Geography Department, BU, and Dr. Manjil Basumatary, Academic
Registrar of BU, chaired a technical session each.
8. Cleanliness Drive and Plantation
Every year the students in the Department involve in cleaning the Department with an
apprehension to maintain health & hygiene. This year students with teachers took a
clean weed drive to fix up plant saplings in the leading edge of the Department. Along
with Education and Commerce, the Geography department planted forty Debadaru
saplings besides a few fruits bearing trees in the last week of March 21.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

The department of Physics was established in 2014 under the umbrella of the Faculty of
Science and Technology to emerge as a centre for excellence in research and postgraduate
teaching at the frontier areas of Physics. Presently, the department offers M.Sc in Physics
with dual specializations such as Nuclear Physics and Condensed Matter Physics. Since 2017
the department is also offering Ph.D programme. The faculty members of the department are
actively engaged in cutting edge research in diverse areas of Physics, such as the
phenomenology of relativistic heavy-ion collision, QCD phase transition & quark-gluon
plasma, magnetic materials, metal oxide semiconductors, thin films etc. The department has
research collaboration with other institutions such as Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest,
Hungary, Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar, IIT-Guwahati, Gauhati University,
Geophysical Research Centre, Shillong.

DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

The Department of Zoology is a newly established department under the School of Science &
Technology umbrella, Bodoland University, Kokrajhar. Since its inception in 2014, it has
been the foremost centre for higher education in all aspects of Animal Sciences in lower
Assam. Being the only institute of higher education in the western part of Assam, the
Department of Zoology is committed to fulfilling the needs and aspirations of this region. It
will also provide an immense opportunity to the student community of this region to explore
the exciting world of biological sciences.
The current syllabus in the Department of Zoology is based on the UGC-Choice Based
Credit System, which includes various aspects of biological sciences such as Molecular
Biology, Genes and Genomics, Animal Physiology, Biochemistry, Fish Biology, Molecular
Immunology, Developmental Biology, Receptor Biology, Cytogenetics, Genetic Engineering,
Reproductive Biology, Endocrinology, Entomology, Environmental Biology, Bioinformatics
and Biological Tools and Techniques. Apart from teaching and learning, the Department of
Zoology is also engaged in other co-curricular activities that increase students' awareness and

2. Research Scholars Association of Zoology Department (RSAZD) was formed on 21

Secretary. They have organized International Day of Forest 2021 as their first activity.

4. On 4 February 2021, Dr. Anukul Nath, Assistant Technical Officer, UNESCO Category
II Centre. Wildlife Institute of India delivered a lecture on ‘Landscape Scale Assessment
of Endangered Species with Special Emphasis on Terai Grassland’ in the Department.

5. On 10 February 2021, a workshop was organized on ‘Bodoland University Campus Bird
Count in Connection with Great Backyard Bird Count’, where Prof. Hilloljyoti Singha as
a Resource Person, explained the methodology for the forthcoming Campus Bird Count.

6. The Students of the Zoology Department of Bodoland University took part in the Campus Bird
Count (CBC) on 14th February 2021. For the first time, Bodoland University has stepped in this
map of CBC in its 7th edition this year. Within one hour, they recorded 43 bird species; among
them, there were six migratory species. The CBC is a part of the global Great Backyard Bird
Count, which is coordinated by Bird Count India in India.

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

Department of Economics was set up in 1997 under Kokrajhar Campus of Gauhati University,
Guwahati. Since 2013, the Department has started to follow its syllabus in PG. At present, the
intake capacity of the Department is 60 in PG with eight faculty members. The Department
follows CBCS in four semesters with five papers of 100 marks (20 internal + 80 end
semesters) in each semester. There is a provision of a dissertation paper of 100 marks in the
last semester where students can have research experience useful for future research work. A
good number of alumni of the Department have been able to establish themselves in reputed
jobs in different fields, and many of them have become successful entrepreneurs also. The
Department has also started Ph.D programme in 2013 with five supervisors.

VISION
The vision of the Department is to make available provision of intellectual exercise among the
scholars in the field of research and disseminate the fruits of research in the adjoining areas
for the optimum utilisation of unused resources and to bring overall economic upliftment of
the society.

DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY

The Department of History, Bodoland University was introduced in 2005. Since its inception,
the Department has been attempting to provide sound knowledge in reconstructing the history
of the downtrodden communities whose histories are less known or ignored. It attempts to
produce qualitative students and scholars in history who will help the human civilization
through their research works. One of the most important objectives of the Department is to
preserve the oral tradition of the Bodo community and other tribal people of North East India;
unless it is preserved, it may be swiped away.

VISION
The Department aims at helping students to understand the present existing social, political,
religious and economic condition of the people; and ecological. The teaching of history helps
students analyse the present based on the past and traces its course. The cause-and-effect
relationship between the past and the present is presented in history.

DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

The Department of Political Science was established in 2005. Initially, the Department started
with 4 Guest Faculties and 17 students as part of the Kokrajhar campus of Gauhati
University. However, in 2009 the Kokrajhar Campus of Gauhati University has been
upgraded to a fully-fledged State University as per the Bodoland University Act 2009, passed
in the Assam legislative Assembly. By 2012, the Department has seven permanent faculties
with an intake capacity of 60 students per semester in the P.G. Course. Other than P.G.
Course, the Department also offer Ph. D programme. At present, the Department has 15
Ph.Ds. Scholars. Till now, 09 Ph. D and 9 M. Phil Scholars were awarded degrees from the
Department and two scholars each from Ph. D & M.Phil have submitted their theses for
examinations. Besides that, the Department also offers P.G. Diploma Course of one-year
duration (two semesters) on Human Rights Education with an intake capacity of 20. The
Department also runs the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies. The centre conducts
seminars, workshops, lectures series etc. from time to time.

To start P.G. Course in Sociology, P.G. Diploma Course in Gender Studies, Rural
Development, Peace & Conflict Studies and North-East Studies.

The Department has the vision to act as the ‘hub’ of policy study for the whole Bodoland area

Bongaigaon. The intake capacity of three DIETs is 50, while DIET Morigaon has 100
seat capacities. 20% of seats are reserved for deputation in these DIETs.
Besides, three B.Ed. Colleges affiliated to Bodoland University viz. Government
College of Teachers’ Education (GCTE), Kokrajhar, Reimalie Academy College (B.Ed.)
and Gossaigaon B.Ed. College with intake capacity of 100 each. 50% of seats are reserved
for deputation in GCTE, Kokrajhar, while 20% are reserved for deputation in the remaining
two other Colleges. 80% of seats will be reserved for the students of affiliated colleges of
Bodoland University.
A graduate or equivalent from any recognized University with at least a 50% mark in
aggregate may apply for the programme. However, if a candidate does not have 50% marks in
the UG course, the candidate must have 55% in the PG course. The reserved quota of SC / ST
candidates is as per norms (5% of the total marks). Teachers with deputation by the Govt. of
Assam have been given special emphasis with at least 20% seat reservation. The selection of
the candidate is purely based on merit.

Master of Education (M.Ed.) programme


Government College of Teachers’ Education (GCTE), affiliated with Bodoland
University, has provided M.Ed. Programme since the academic session 2017-2018. The total
intake capacity is 50, out of which 20% of seats are reserved for deputation. Among the rest
80% of seats, 80% of seats will be reserved for the students of affiliated colleges of
Bodoland University. Any candidate with B.Ed. / B.T. with at least 55% marks in aggregate
as per latest NCTE norms from Bodoland University or any other institutes recognised by
Bodoland University or other universities may apply for this programme. Relaxation for the
reserved quota of SC / ST candidates is as per norms (5% of the total marks). The selection of

CENTRE FOR BAMBOO STUDIES

Initiated in 2013-14 as Diploma in Bamboo Technology course under the aegis of Department
of Biotechnology, Bodoland University was sponsored by the Agriculture Department,
Bodoland Territorial Council Secretariat, Bodofa Nwgwr, Kokrajhar and National Mission on
Bamboo Applications, New Delhi. It was upgraded to the “Centre for Bamboo Studies” in
2017 with its independent identity.
Bamboo is an important natural, renewable livelihood resource in Bodoland Territorial
Council, which grows in about one-third of natural forest as pure and mixed are cultivated on
homestead & non-forest land. Bamboo production in the Bodoland Territorial Region is quite
low. There is a need to enhance it through scientific Cultivation of suitable species and
improved management of bamboo-based non-forest or forest.
Since bamboo is the primary source of livelihood for rural people of this region, it is,
therefore, the need of the hour to make the people aware of the proper use and scope of
Bamboo in Bodoland. The course is very much important for Bodoland Territorial Council
because it provides them in-depth knowledge in various aspects of bamboos.

VISION
The primary aim of the course is to motivate students for self-employment, as well as to carry
out extensive research in various aspects of bamboo with particular emphasis on bamboo
cultivation and germplasm conservation.

MISSION

CENTRE FOR BODO STUDIES

The “CENTRE FOR BODO STUDIES (CBS)” started functioning in 2014 based on the
Memorandum of Settlement of Bodo Accord, 2003. Bodoland University designed the centre
to facilitate scholars, thinkers and interested individuals in augmenting a new study approach
on the Bodo Ethnic Group of North East India with reference to national and international
viewpoints. The primary concept of the centre is to contribute to the enormity of Indian
diversity in nation-building approaches. Bodoland University envisioned building Bodo
language and culture and antiquity an entity of the great Indian culture. Now, the centre has
become a part of the University with substantial autonomy to function and solitary identity as
“Centre,” to run by this Regulation. The Centre for Bodo Studies supports three types of
scholars to undertake their studies. Firstly, the research scholars who want to undertake their
studies on the related premise of Language, Culture and Antiquity of the Bodos can be
registered member scholars of the Centre. Secondly, the writers or thinkers who have no
requisite degrees to carry out research work but having good studies and knowledge on the
area can also register as member scholars. Thirdly, who are energized to study various aspects
of the Bodos methodically or want to publish their research works in an organized way can
also become member scholar of the Centre. The Centre would extend memberships with
available sources and guidance to find the goal in these three categories of scholars and
learners. The centre also organizes seminar, workshop, training on various knowledge and
skill of Bodo group and share their research findings with the nation and abroad.

BACKGROUND
The Bodo Accord, signed between the Government of India, the Government of Assam and
under the Bodo leaders, has recommended establishing a Centre / Institute for research,
development and spreading of the Bodo language. It has been mentioned in the Sl. No. 1 of
the Annexure-4 of the Bodo Accord, 2003.
The establishment of a Centre for Bodo Studies in the Kokrajhar Campus of Gauhati
University is a long-cherished desire of the Bodo people, intellectuals, writers, artists, social
activists, journalists, social workers and scholars of this region. The project has a special
significance after the signing of the Bodo Accord, which brings these aboriginal people under
the sixth schedule of the Indian Constitution for their protection and development and the
Bodo Language under the Eight scheduled for upholding and promotion of the Bodo
language, culture and arts.
In 2000, the Educational Consultant India Limited, a Govt. of India Enterprise, which
was deputed by the MHRD, Govt. of India, to study the feasibility of an autonomous
University at Kokrajhar had suggested setting up a Centre for Bodo Studies at University
Campus, Kokrajhar with its up-gradation to a full-fledged University. The Bodo language,
literature, Culture and folklore, despite their richness, remain unexposed due to the lack of the
patronage of the government for their exploration. The Bodos have developed literature with
eminent playwrights, novelists and short story writers among them. Nevertheless, the Bodo
language and literature investigations or methodical research are yet to be done due to the lack
of proper facilities and institutional support.

The Bodoland University, which conducts a Master Degree course and research works,
cannot cover the entire aspects of the Bodos like history, socio-economy, culture, behaviour,
language, religion etc. Many of these fields are still virgin and need to be exploited
scientifically. So, there was enough potentiality for running a Centre for Bodo Studies at the
university level to cater for the need of the scholars of different disciplines. The establishment
of a Study Centre at Bodoland University is very fruitful as its catchment area cover entire
North East India, West Bengal and neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan,
who have had close contact with the Bodos since time immemorial and will give scope for
studying inter-state culture, language and literature. The growth of Bodo language, literature
and culture in tune with the development of mainstream India will help instil national feeling,
moral responsibilities among the Bodos and promote fellow feeling in the region.

VISION
Centre for Bodo Studies (CBS) has envisioned reconstructing the endangered Bodo culture,
language and antiquity, which was about to disappear amid the globalization process. The
Bodo language and culture need to be developed suitably to cope with the other language and
cultures of the country. India being a multi-cultural and multi-lingual nation, offers scope for
self-development and self-identity to all small communities. The mission of the Centre shall
be to carry out extensive study in organized ways for creating and enhancing the domain of
fundamental knowledge with new tools and methods in a scientific way through the quality
study, research, consultancy, learning & teaching, documentation, archiving and digitization,
exchanging ideas of culture, language, racial identity and so forth. Centre for Bodo Studies
(CBS) is an interdisciplinary concept in its realm with a quest for proper knowledge and
dissemination. It intends to become a pioneering force in developing academic potential
among its ethnic group in the region. It shall have facilities and provision for extension and
exchange of knowledge and studies with other like-minded institutions of India and abroad.

The course of the Bodo language acquisition is entitled “Certificate Course in Bodo
Language”. The course aims for those who cannot speak or write Bodo Language. This is a

discourses, and aims to enhance the skill of writing the language in a simple and easy method.
Also, it aims at developing competency in translation from other languages into Bodo & vice
versa.

Centre for Women Studies (CWS), Bodoland University, was established in 2013. It supports
the all-round development of women especially control over recourses. The main concern of
CWS, BU is to build a centre of information and knowledge of women of Bodoland
Territorial Area Development Council (BTAD), Assam, and North Eastern Region. Evolving
a Gender Perspective in developing and regularly revising the Curriculum material, Research
Studies, Field action, Documentation and Extension Activities, The CWS, BU seeks to
address discrimination against women, interrogate existing discipline-wise concepts, tools and
techniques that justify the denial of equity for women and work towards the upliftment of
women from the straitjackets of Stereotyped categorization, marginalization and
discrimination.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES


(a) To actively coordinate courses on gender and women in different departments and
promote assimilation and dissemination of knowledge on gender issues.
(b) To provide a forum to debate issues on gender, diversity and equity and to work in
coordination with women’s organizations and voluntary groups to advocate for better
gender balance.
(c) To initiate Capacity Building Programmes and thus facilities participation of women
in higher education management.
(d) To impart gender sensitization and generate awareness on gender issues both through
academic and extension programmes.

With the alarming growth of the global population, the proportionate growth of food and
nutrition is always a prime concern. The issue becomes even grimmer with the depletion of
potent agricultural land and other resources. One more issue that started finding importance
among discussion of different fora is solid waste management, including agricultural waste.
Mushroom cultivation is found to be such as bolete, puffball, stinkhorn, and morel.
The act of consuming mushrooms (mycophagy) dates back to ancient times. Edible
mushrooms can appear either below ground (hypogeous) or above ground (epigeous) &
edibility may be defined by criteria that include the absence of poisonous effects on humans
and desirable taste and aroma. A popular answer to all the above concerns stands as quality
food requires less land and can be a tool to manage agricultural waste. Diversification in any
farming system imparts sustainability. Mushrooms are one such component that not only
imparts diversification but also help in addressing the problems of quality food, health, and
environmental sustainability. Consumption of mushrooms on a daily basis boosts the health of
the consumer.
The attributes are good for the heart (no cholesterol), low-calorie food (good for
diabetic patients), prevents cancer (especially prostate and breast cancer by arresting the
action of 5-alpha reductase and aromatase, these enzymes are responsible for the growth of
cancerous tumor), anti-ageing property (the polysaccharide from Mushroom are potent
scavengers of superoxide free radical), regulates the digestive system, strengthen immunity.
Mushroom like Trametes versilcolor synthesizes Polysaccharide-K (Kresin), which is a
leading anti-cancer drug. Mushroom is the fruiting body of fungi visible outside and can be
seen by the naked eye. Biologically, Mushroom describes various gilled fungi, with or without
stems, and the term is used even more generally to describe both the fleshy fruiting bodies and
leathery fruiting bodies. Morphology deviating from the standard usually has more specific
names such as bolete, puffball, stinkhorn and morel.

GENESIS OF THE WORK


Mushroom, a low-cost health food nutraceutical in nature having massive agro-waste
conversion ability, highest producer of protein per unit area & time, is highly suitable as a tool
for developing rural entrepreneurship and sustainable development in the mountains. Further,
Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD, 6th Schedule Area) and North Eastern States
(Eastern Himalayan States) make mushroom cultivation highly suitable and feasible through a
series of easily understandable entrepreneurship & skill development training for the purpose.
Further, virtues like minimal resource requirement, meagre capital investment, less water
requirement, less land requirement, wide availability of organic agro waste, and potential
domestic and international market make mushroom cultivation venture a model tool for stand-
up India & start-up India concept. Mycophagy is a common practice in tribal communities.
Most of the people and rural youth of BTAD are from tribal & other communities and are
mostly belong to economically backward families (BPL) who have started emerging as
potential Indian youth despite having a recent hard past. Department of Biotechnology,
Bodoland University has identified this vital issue. With the help of DBT-GoI and the local
BTC Government since 2013, it started addressing the local, rural and women entrepreneurs,

farmers with alternative and double income through mushroom-based tools followed by their
value addition and marketing. Initially, the venture was confined to BTAD districts of
Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri of Assam. Subsequently, it has spread to other
districts of Assam and other states like Sikkim, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh.
Initially, the work was conducted under the DBT-Sponsored Institutional Biotech Hub.
However, the work is subsequently carried out under DBT –sponsored ‘Technology
Incubation Centre for entrepreneurship development through mushroom culture & farming”.

initiated production of low-cost membrane face masks, Hand Sanitizers, portable two in
one physical cum chemical sterilization box, Axombazar.com for online shopping (farmer
to consumer model), Cordyceps capsule and Laser-based sanitization in its capacity to
contribute to the Nationwide resistance towards present Covid-19 crisis.
2. Around 1260 handmade face mask has been made & distributed, and about 835 litres of
Hand Sanitizers have been distributed (5300 bottles of different volume). The operation of
the webpage Axombazar.com is in process. The team has been working effortlessly since
17th March for helping people of all stakeholders. Currently, the laser-based Sterilization

Health sector is a legitimate coupling embedded within the social anatomy of the world. It is
gaining firm root day by day as the disease structural behaviour is outraging the social

Padmashree Madaram Brahma Central Library (PMBCL) is the liveliest place on the campus
providing a safe, comfortable and friendly environment that enables learning and
advancement of knowledge and promotes discovery and scholarship. The mission of the
library is to facilitate the creation of new knowledge through the acquisition, organization and
dissemination of knowledge resources along with providing value-added services. The library
was established in 2001 in a small room as a part of Gauhati University, Kokrajhar Campus.
The library was upgraded in 2009 as a full-fledged University library and the up-gradation of
Gauhati University, Kokrajhar campus into a full-fledged state University in the name and
style of Bodoland University. Since then, the library of Bodoland University has been known
as Bodoland University Central Library. The library was confined in a single room till 2013,
and on 12th August 2013, Library was shifted to a multi-storeyed separate building. Despite
financial hardship, the library has been trying its best to develop modern library services to
provide sufficient knowledge resources to the University's academic community effectively.
In 2015, the Central Library was named after a renowned bureaucrat, poet and dramatist,
Padmashree Madaram Brahma. Since then, the Central Library of Bodoland University has
been renamed as “Padmashree Madaram Brahma Central Library”.
KOHA has been installed as Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS) to
manage and organise library systems. At present, the barcode-based circulation system, i.e.
issue return of the books, is being practised. The library holds more than 24000 print books,
more than 1600 E-Journals, JSTOR and other resources like M.Phil. & Ph.D Dissertation,
Project work reports etc.
The library has a Digital Library section having 17 dedicated Personal Computers
fully with high-speed internet connectivity, enabling library users to access various subscribed
resources and browse the world of the web in search of various resources. With the
implementation of Web-OPAC, the holdings of the library can be viewed by anybody from
anywhere in the world 24×7.
PMBCL BU has successfully implemented the Remote Access Platform called
Remotexs to enable library users to access subscribed E-Resources from the comfort of their
places wherever they go at any time, i.e., 24×7. PMBCL has also successfully implemented its
digital repository in the name and style of Bodoland University Digital Library using DSpace
software. This library will play a vital role in building an institutional repository of various
resources of the University like Old Question papers, Thesis & Dissertations, Annual Reports,
policy documents, etc., in electronic format, which will be accessible by anybody at anytime
from anywhere in the world.
A dedicated and independent dynamic website has been designed and launched to
provide single stop access to all the above portals/platforms. The library is also involved in
conducting various programmes like user awareness, workshops, seminars, conferences, book
exhibitions, career awareness, etc., in contributing to the University's academic and general
activities.

I. ESTABLISHING THE CENTRAL LIBRARY

The first step towards establishing the library was taken in 2009 with a single room in the old
administrative building. The library worked without library staff member/s for about4 years.
The formal functioning of the library started in May 2013 with the joining of one library
professionals and one Library Assistant. In August 2013, the Central Library was shifted to its
present location with about 9254 sq. ft floor space.
The library has implemented Library management System Software SOUL2.0 with a
barcode-based circulation system. The issue/return of the books is now being converted into
an automated system. The university's academic community is provided with necessary
reference/information services based on their specific need. In addition, the library extends
reference and internet services to the local academic and civil society members.
University is already connected with DeLnet, through which the academic community
of the University can access online resources extended by these consortia. Internet facility is
also provided in the library through the 1gbps NKN line. In addition to the online resources
available through these consortia, University has also taken an initiative to procure/subscribed
selective new resources in 2017. Users can selectively photocopy the required books/journals
articles, etc., through an outsourced photocopy centre outside the Central Library.

II. LIBRARY INFRASTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES

The present floor area of the Central Library is about 9254 sq. ft. Within this space, we are
providing the following facilities-
a) Reading room: Presently, four computer terminals have been kept for the users and 100
setting capacity.
b) Periodical section: Several academic journals, periodicals, and magazines are displayed
for reading purposes and two magazine shelves are kept for that purpose.
c) Reference section: The Reference collection of the Central Library is presently displayed
in 19 book-shelves.
d) Internet facilities: The library provides free internet facilities to users through 15
computers terminals connected with 1gbps leased line for accessing the e-resources. The
entire building is presently Wi-Fi connected, and users are also allowed to access the
internet facilities through their laptops.
e) Surveillance system: Most of the passage areas are presently covered by CCTV to secure
the library resources. Security personnel are deployed during the entire functioning hours
of the library.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

The NSS Cell of Bodoland University organized a four-day programme from 21st-24th June
2021to observe the International Yoga Day in collaboration with the Art of Living
Foundation. The International Day of Yoga is observed on 21st June 2021, since its inception
in the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. With the theme of the event, which was,
“BE WITH YOGA, BE AT HOME” a webinar was conducted to observe the International
Day of Yoga where esteemed guests, faculties from different colleges, members of the NSS
units were present along with the Vice-Chancellor and faculty members of the university. The
webinar began with the welcome speech by Prof Sujit Deka at 9:30 am. Prof Deka is the
programme coordinator of the NSS Cell, Bodoland University, and the HoD of Geography.
Prof. Deka warmly welcomed all the participants with his humble and kind words, followed
by the inaugural speech by the honourable Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University, Prof.
Laishram Ladu Singh.

Prof Singh is an eminent personality in population statistics and a man with vast knowledge
and experience. He shared his urge for the introduction of yoga in all educational institutions
for its numerous benefits. After the inauguration of the programme, a yoga session was
conducted, which was led by Mr. M. Rajaque Rahman. Mr Rahman is a senior faculty in the
Art of Living Foundation. The Art of Living Foundation is an educational and humanitarian
NGO that offers breathing techniques, meditation, and yoga programmes. Mr Rahman has
been an editor with top publications such as The Economic Times, Bengaluru, India and The
Business Today in Muscat, Oman. He has also been the media coordinator of the Art of
Living from 2005-2008. Mr Rahman commits to spreading the essence and wisdom of yoga,
meditation and Indian spirituality to all sections. Mr. Rajaque Rahman shared his immense
knowledge on yoga and its benefits and the science of how yoga plays its role in protecting
the COVID-19. In his yoga session, a great orator and a better yoga teacher, Mr Rahman,
showed some basic and easy but extremely important yoga steps that one can practice while
being seated. He patiently and kindly taught all the steps and explained the science behind it
whilst stating their advantages. He gave special attention to the students and displayed the
yoga steps that help release stress and fatigue with increased focus and concentration.

Scientific researchers have proved that yoga reduces stress and tension and increase physical
and mental health. With COVID-19 taking a toll on everyone’s mental and physical health,
this year, the International Yoga Day focuses on the wellbeing of society while it is still
recovering from the impact of COVID-19. Mr Rahman after an hour of yoga session, spared
some of his precious time and answered the questions patiently that were raised by the
audience. All the participants in the webinar were greatly benefitted and they expressed their
gratitude to him.
After the interactive session, it was followed by the vote of thanks which Mr Solomon Islary,
Asstt, gave. Prof. of the Department of Political Science and the programme officer of the
NSS Cell, Bodoland University. He thanked all the dignitaries present in the event and the
technical coordinator Dr. Manoj Deka and Mr Bhargab Jyoti Kachari. They were instrumental
in the smooth conduction of the programme. Mr Islary also thanked the NSS programme
coordinator and its members for taking this initiative to observe Yoga Day while being at

home. Lastly, he conveyed his gratitude to all the participants present in the webinar for their
support and cooperation.
For the next three days (22nd,23rd and 24th June), a virtual yoga session led by Mr M. Rajaque
Rahman was conducted every morning at 9:30 hours, attended by a large audience. The four
days programme held by the NSS Cell, Bodoland University, has been a great success. In
these desperate times where we are demanded to stay indoors, virtual events can prove to be
very beneficial.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY OBSERVED


The world environment day was observed in Bodoland University in three different sessions
in a befitting manner. In collaboration with the NSS CELL, Bodoland University, the
Department of Geography had begun the first session at 10 am online. The webinar started
with a welcome speech by Prof. Sujit Deka, the programme coordinator, in the presence of
more than a hundred eighty participants. Prof Laishram Ladusingh, the Honorable Vice-
Chancellor of Bodoland University, delivered the opening speech as the inaugurator of the
event, followed by a Special talk by Dr. Bibhab Kumar Talukdar scientist G and founder
member of AARANYAK. In his remarks, Dr Talukdar explains the biodiversity potential of
the BTR region and the strategy that needs to be adopted for Ecosystem restoration. Dr. Sibani
Basumatari, Assistant Professor of Dept of Geography, introduced the resource person before
his speech. The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Bhargab Jyoti Kachari,
Assistant Professor of Dept. of Geography & the Technical Coordinator of the organizing
committee. Dr. Hemaprabha Saikia, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry &
Programme Office of BU NSS Unit, moderate the questions proposed by the participant. On
this occasion, with more than three hundred NSS volunteers and students of the Geography
department, a prepared video on the plantation drive is compiled and played before the
gathering. At the end of the programme organizing committee pledged to continue their
endeavour with a promising enterprise to successfully deliver the UN Decade on Ecosystem

Restoration till 2031 to conserve our environment and ensure the Ecosystem services provided
by biodiversity.

The University provides hostel facilities for boys and girls. However, the seats are limited;
therefore, looking into the matter, the hostel management committee strictly follows certain rules
and regulations at the time of hostel seat allocation. The process of selection for accommodation
