Business Ethics and Social Responsibilities

Give examples of the different types of direct and indirect misrepresentation using photos
and videos. Provide an explanation/caption every picture.

DIRECT MISREPRESENTATION
• Direct misrepresentation is characterized by actively misrepresenting one thing
concerning the merchandise or service.
• Deceptive Packaging - refers to how a product are packed in such a way that it
misleads the customer on different aspects such as quality, size, form, and so on.
Examples are chocolate loukoumi and face wash

• So as you can see in picture, the packaging looks good, but when you opened the
product nabawasan na siya. It’s like expectations vs. reality. So this happens when
a company attracts the consumer to purchase its goods by creating a feeling that is
dissimilar to the products' original packaging.

• Adulteration - the immoral practice of tampering with a real commodity by

imitating or inserting anything to increase its bulk or length, or even by
substituting a lower-quality product for a higher-quality one for benefit.
Examples are mixing milk with water, mixing oil with chemical derivatives or
cheaper oils.

.

• Misbranding - Providing intentionally false material on the packaging for a

specific product is a fraudulent activity (hiding information on labelling, evading
controversial product or service aspects, etc.). It may be the product is offered
falsely under another name, imitates a traditional food without declaring that it is
“imitation” and label does not contain all the basic required elements such as
product name, net weight, ingredient listing, address or responsible party (e.g.
manufacturer or distributor)

Undetermined amount of ready-to-eat chicken soup products because of

misbranding and an undeclared allergen, according to the U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The product contains
milk, a known allergen that was not declared on the finished product label. The
institutional, frozen “Chicken & Poblano Pepper Soup” items were labeled
incorrectly as “Home-style Chicken Noodle.
So it says here that it has wheat but it also
has indication that is is gluten free.

• Mislabeling – It's a form of deceptive advertisement in which a product's label

contains statements that are overstated, exaggerated, or outright false.
So here is an example of incorrect
labeling. The product labels are incorrect, as they do not reflect the ingredients
associated with the pasteurized cheese in the cheese dogs.

Here’s another product, the

Ghost Pepper Queso was mislabeled as Ghost Pepper Salsa.

• Short weighing – looks like the deceptive packaging wherein the sellers sell a
commodity that weighs less than the claimed weight. So for example is you buy a
flour/rice that is 3kg but the seller gave you a 2kg.

• Shortchanging - taken from a case in which the vendor gives the customer less
cash thany2mathe
e.com - A sideserves.
mple shortchange_360p.mp4 So here’s a video of shortchanging.
So for personal experience, I buy iced coffee in McDonalds that is worth 49 peso. I gave
100 peso and the cashier gave me 45 pesos, when I complain, she said that I disrespected
her for saying that she’s dumb like that. So I was insulted that time and said to her “if you
wanted to play dirty let’s play dirty, it’s my right to complain because the change you
gave me was not right. I advise that use calculator next time and count properly. Don’t
take advantage just because I’m younger than you, I also have the right. You’re so low
po.” I don’t really want to say that but she needs to learn and know her place.
• Short numbering - the seller offers the buyers the amount by a bit of the product
lower than the number he/she paid for. samples of this are the products sold by box
or package equivalent to toothpicks, bond paper, bathroom paper, paper clips,
paper towels, and so on.
• Short measuring - are product that depend upon length and volume. you'll
typically experience it within the textile market and electrical shops. Wherein they
use short yard or ruler than the real one resulting to increase profit. I couldn’t find
any picture or videos regarding this but based on my understanding, parang they
don’t use the right equipment to measure something that need’s to be measured. So
for example kailangan imeassure yung tiles, they will lessen the measurement of
the tiles para mag purchase pa yung buyer.

So as you can see here, may mga spacing na sobra that cuases miss calculation
of measuring the tiles. So, kailangan ulit ayusin ang mag purchase ng buyer
to a next tiles.

• False/Misleading Advertisement - any representation or symbol that violates

information and would be inappropriate to a large portion of the general or related
population, resulting in confusion or incorrect decisions. So in here any
information that isn’t true and violates a human beings, services, business, etc.
Examples of this are:

There are also Chinese videos in tiktok that promotes misleading products like the
whitening slime something like that I couldn’t find the video, but there’s many
people who buys it and give negative feedback.
