greeting

The life-work of our Church’s youth

has been enhanced by the creative
energy, the inspirational and committed
leadership of the National Christian Youth
Fellowship (NCYF). This has been revealed
in the various programs carried out and
cooperated by the Conference and the
jurisdictional area youth organizations.

The production of the Youth Week Guide is a yearly output of the NCYF
Christian Education Committee that provides insights through biblical and
theological exposition on the theme and suggested Youth Week activities.

This year’s theme “Bringing Good News of Light and Hope to the Masses in
these Changing Times” encourages the local church and Conference CYF to be
guided and be attuned to vision, mission and objectives of the Church which
we hope to achieve both in the immediate situation and in the long-term, with
the sustaining power of the Holy Spirit.

May this Youth Week Celebration guide promote the unity of the youth
organizations at all levels and enable leaders to organize and conduct the
Youth Week Celebration with dedication and enthusiasm.

I pray that God will bless the work of the NCYF and may the Spirit guide and
support you in bringing good news of light and hope to the vulnerable people in
our communities and in the wider society.

ywcg cyf npres GREETINGS

Hello fellow young people! How are you today?

How do you feel? Is everything alright for you?
Those are some of the words we long to hear these
days because ‘us” too are filled with too many
emotions brought to us by this global crisis. We are
fighting our own battle that we do not even know
when to end. It has never been easy. And not an isolated
case too. It has been a tough year. It has been a hard battle.
But hey buddy! We are all in this together.

This pandemic hinders us to physically attend all the programs and activities again. But just
like what we did last year, we did not let this crisis blow at the fire of our service. We will
celebrate our Youth Sunday with hope that this crisis will be over soon.

Carrying the theme “Bringing Good News of Light and Hope to the Masses in these Changing
Times”, we present to you this year’s YOUTH WEEK CELEBRATION GUIDE. Through
unwavering efforts and commitment of our CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AND NURTURE
Committee, the book is here! This year’s guide is a humble attempt to capture in one
document all the things we needed as we celebrate our Youth Sunday. May we own this book
and use it as reference and guidance. It is ours. It embodies our life and unwavering spirit of
service to our fellow young people.

Finally, it is our prayer that through this humble work, our Lord Jesus Christ will be glorified.
To each one of you, thank you for continuously igniting the fire of commitment of bringing
Good News of Life and Hope to the Masses in these Changing Times.

God bless us all. Stay Safe!

With you in God’s vineyard,

JONNA MAE BECHAYDA-SANCHEZ

CEN GREETINGS

To my fellow youth leaders of UCCP,

Greetings of God’s bountiful peace and grace!

For more than a year, our lives have been greatly

affected by the pandemic. Our daily routines were
compromised due to different health protocols that
are implemented in different areas of the Philippines.
However, the number of positive cases continue to
increase due to inadequate testing and vaccination. And
aside from restricted movements of the people outside
their residences, the transportation, quality of education,
jobs for daily living, and even church gatherings are even more limited.

Given this kind of situation, the church is reminded to live out its mission faithfully to the world.
Our actions as Christian should manifest our deep understanding of our sub-quadrennial theme
for this ecclesial year, “Bringing Good News of Light and Hope to the Masses in These Changing
Times.” The limited face-to-face church activities should not hinder us in doing our ministries.
Although we are also affected, our programs should still continue in responding to the needs of
our organization, our Church and the wider society.

As we partake in this year’s Youth Week Celebration, we would like to acknowledge the
continuous commitment and burning passion of all the members of our organization. Some of us
lost our loved ones, some of us suffered from COVID-19, and all of us were greatly affected by the
pandemic in any aspect of our life, but we thank everyone for keeping our faith burning and
keeping the desire to serve humanity. Therefore, we are hoping for the brighter side of the
unknown; as long as we remain connected to our Divine Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer, as well
as being grounded to the churches where we belong and communities where we live.

Have a meaningful celebration of Youth Week! May our Youth Week Celebration Guide be
maximized by our organization in different judicatories, but not to limit our own capacities to
conduct our activities successfully! Our creativity and resourcefulness on how we are going to
celebrate in the new normal is really appreciated and valued.

Padayon, CYF!

For the youth and the community,

“The power of youth is the common wealth for the entire world. The faces of young people are

♱LIGTING OF THE CANDLE AND OPENING THE BIBLE

♱PROCESSIONAL

♱CALL TO GATHERING
Liturgist: For you, O Lord, are my hope,
People: My trust, O LORD, from my youth.
Liturgist: Upon you I have learned from my birth;
it was you who took me from my mother’s womb.
People: My praise is continually of you.
Liturgist: My mouth is filled with your praise, and with your glory all day long.
People: Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
do not forsake me when my strength is spent.
Liturgist: I will hope continually, and will praise you yet more and more.
People: My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation
all day long.
Liturgist: I will come praising the mighty deeds of the Lord GOD,
I will praise your righteousness, yours alone.
People: O God, from my youth you have taught me,
and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.
Liturgist: So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me.
All: I proclaim your might to all the generations to come.
Praises be to God, all-merciful and holy, Amen.
Psalm 71:5-6, 8-9, 14-19 (NRSV)

♱HYMN OF PRAISE “In My Heart There Rings A Melody” Hymns for the Family of God 633
I have a song that Jesus gave me,
It was sent from heav'n above,
There never was a sweeter melody,
'Tis a melody of love.
Chorus:
In my heart there rings a melody,
There rings a melody with heaven's harmony,
In my heart there rings a melody,
There rings a melody of love.

I love the Christ who died on Calv'ry,

For He washed my sins away,
He put within my heart a melody,
And I know it's there to stay. (Chorus)

'Twill be my endless theme in glory,

With the angels I will sing,
'Twill be a song with glorious harmony,
When the courts of heaven ring. (Chorus)

♱OPENING PRAYER
All-gracious God, we thank you for always giving us reasons to gather and to celebrate. Help
and empower us, that we may bring the good news of light and hope to your people. Just as
you sent the power of the Holy Spirit to those who first believed, fill us now with your guiding
power and sustaining grace, that we may become the hands and feet of Christ in our times. In
the Name of the One who came and saved us, we pray. Amen.
♱RESPONSE “Spirit Of the Living God” Hymns for the Family of God #155
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BagH-zTfnsQ

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
CREATIVE LITANY OF CONFESSION
(The liturgist sanitizes his or her hands,
then, the demonstration of wearing the face mask and face shield follows.)
Liturgist: The frequent use of these (pointing the worn face mask & face shield and lifting the
alcohol or any sanitizer) are essential measures to suppress the transmission of the virus and
that lives may be saved.
People: But we confess that even our ability to speak the words of truth, and
the power of seeing each other’s cares, with compassion and solidarity are gravely
obstructed.
Liturgist: By our crafted masks and shields of apathy, we no longer are breathing the
love of God upon us. While generosity turns into greed, solidarity breaks down into isolated
salvation, and welcoming into being condemning.
All: God of all mercies, forgive and restore us, we pray.

SILENT MOMENT OF CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Pastor
(In bigger movements, the minister will look at the table set for a pantry)
As we receive the bounty of God’s pardoning grace, let’s take heed of what this table signifies.
This pantry is an expression of God’s compassion for the poor and a symbol of our collective
response, in solidarity with the suffering masses in order to survive the crisis, heightened by the
pandemic COVID 19. In this ordinary surface, dear brethren, we are reminded and called to
offer hope, as we are forgiven from our iniquities and as we are loved and commissioned again.
Thanks be to God, we are restored to holiness, Amen.

RESPONSE “Blessed Be The Tie that Binds” HOFJ 268

Before our God we come, and pour our ardent prayers

Their inexperience and their doubt
Uncertain, unsure
Of the future before them
They heard and followed
The call of God

Liturgist: Jesus called little ones to show the way to the kingdom
Called a teenager to feed the hungry
Called John into the desert ahead of him
Called fishermen to a new occupation
Called Nathanael to come and see a new way
Called a young man to rise from death
Called a 12-year-old girl to get up and live
Called young women, despised, and rejected, to be in his company

People: In their youth, their inexperience and their doubt

Uncertain, unsure of the future before them
They heard and followed the call of Jesus

Liturgist: For Jesus saw and called out of them

Their optimism and imagination
Their courage and adaptability
Their hope and their idealism
Their courage and their sensitivity
Their wisdom and their faith
People: Now, even now, the Spirit calls the young
To stand up for their faith in the face of persecution
To take their talents and skills to places of danger
To raise their voices in songs of protest
To fan the fire of passionate ideals
To build communities of love and compassion
To teach the old to dream new dreams
To minister and serve for the sake of the Gospel
CYF: For in us are planted the seeds of new possibilities
The gifts for the years to come
The insights that will shape the future
The promises that all things will be made new.
People: May the God of all ages help us so, Amen.

♱HYMN OF COMMITMENT “Send the Light” Hymns for the Family of God 663
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Lmn-20yyJY

There’s a call comes ringing o’er the restless wave,

“Send the light! Send the light!”
There are souls to rescue, there are souls to save,
Send the light! Send the light!

Refrain:
Send the light, the blessed Gospel light;
Let it shine from shore to shore!
Send the light, and let its radiant beams
Light the world forevermore!

We have heard the Macedonian call today,

“Send the light! Send the light!”
And a golden off’ring at the cross we lay,
Send the light! Send the light! (Refrain)

Let us pray that grace may everywhere abound,

“Send the light! Send the light!”
And a Christlike spirit everywhere be found,
Send the light! Send the light! (Refrain)

Let us not grow weary in the work of love,

“Send the light! Send the light!”
Let us gather jewels for a crown above,
Send the light! Send the light! (Refrain)
♱PRAYER OF COMMITMENT
♱BENEDICTION
And now, may you go from this place in peace, (may you head on from this virtual space in
peace) knowing that we are all trusted and called by Christ to offer hope and light to the
masses, dimmed by so many sufferings. May you go from this place in faith and in love,
knowing that God is with us and is in us, in the name of the Triune God: Creator, Redeemer and
Sustainer, Amen.
♱RESPONSE “Go Now in Peace”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HegHqvSGXjU
Go now in peace, never be afraid
God will go with you each hour of every day
Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true
Know God will guide you in all you do
Go now in love and show you believe
Reach out to others so all the world can see
God will be there around you and above
Go now in peace, in faith, and in love. A - men. A - men. A - men.

♱PAGSISINDI NG KANDILA AT PAGBUKAS NG BIBLIYA

♱PROSESYONAL

Patnugot: Sa Iyo natutunan na mula kapanganakan;

Bayan: Kaya ako'y nagpupuri, nagpupuri buong araw,

Patnugot : Akin ngayong ihahayag ang taglay mong karangalan.

Maghapon kong ihahayag ang dulot mong kaligtasan;

Awit 71:5-6, 8-9, 14-19

♱PAPURING AWIT “Ako’y May Awit sa Puso Ko” Imnaryong Kristiyano 103

I
Ako'y may awit sa puso ko,
Si Jesus ang nagdulot,
Walang katulad ang himig nito:
Awit na buhat sa Dios!

Koro
Awit sa puso'y anong tamis,
Himig na kay ganda, awit ng tinubos;
Awit sa puso'y anong tamis,
Ukol sa pagsinta ng Dios!

II
Mahal sa puso ko si Cristo
Na humugas sa sala,
Binagong lubusan ang buhay ko,
Pinuspos ng pagsinta (Koro)
III
Paksa ng awit ko'y si Cristo
Na umibig sa akin,
Mga anghel makakasama ko
At Siya'y pupurihin! (Koro)

Amen.

Kaligayahan kong aking isaysay,

♱AWIT NG PANGAKO “Send the Light” Hymns for the Family of God 663

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Lmn-20yyJY

There’s a call comes ringing o’er the restless wave,

“Send the light! Send the light!”
There are souls to rescue, there are souls to save,
Send the light! Send the light!

Refrain:
Send the light, the blessed Gospel light;
Let it shine from shore to shore!
Send the light, and let its radiant beams
Light the world forevermore!

We have heard the Macedonian call today,

“Send the light! Send the light!”
And a golden off’ring at the cross we lay,
Send the light! Send the light! (Refrain)

Let us pray that grace may everywhere abound,

“Send the light! Send the light!”
And a Christlike spirit everywhere be found,
Send the light! Send the light! (Refrain)

Let us not grow weary in the work of love,

“Send the light! Send the light!”
Let us gather jewels for a crown above,
Send the light! Send the light! (Refrain)

♱PAGDAGKOT SA KANDILA NI KRISTO UG PAG-ABLI SA BIBLIYA

♱PAGPANULOD SA MGA PANGULO SA PAGSIMBA

♱TAWAG SA PAGSIMBA
Pangulo: Ikaw ang akong paglaom, Oh, Ginoo!
Katawhan: Sukad pa sa akong pagkabatan-on misalig ako Kanimo, Ginoo.
Pangulo: Sa tibuok kong kinabuhi misalig ako Kanimo. Gipanalipdan Mo ako sukad pa sa
akong pagkahimugso.
AMEN

Salmo 71:5-6, 8-9, 14-19 (CPV)

♱AWIT SA PAGDAYEG “SA DIOS ANG HIMAYA”

(Tune: To God Be The Glory)

Sa Dios ang himaya kay gugma Siya

Kanato gihatag Niya si Jesus
Ang ato nga silot gibayran niya
Magakinabuhi kita sa dayon

Koro
Daygon ta si Jesus! Pasidunggan Siya.
Daygon ta si Jesus! Magmalipayon ta
Ang dalan Siya ngadto sa Amahan,
Siya himayaon kay gamhanan man.

Kal’wasan nga hingpit tungod sa dugo

Gisaad sa Dios sa mga magtoo
Ang makasasala pasayloon Nya
Sa takna gayud nga mosalig siya

Ang atong kalipay naa kang Jesus

Nga nagbuhat sa mga dagkung butang
Apan ang kalipay tang dili tupngan
Mao ang pagbalik sa Ginoo ta.

♱PANGABLING PAG-AMPO
ulog. Sa among pagmaya tabangi ug hatagi kami sa gahom aron among mapa-ambit ngadto sa Imong katawhan ang
maayong balita sa kahayag ug paglaom. Ingun nga Ikaw nagpadala sa Balaang Espirito niadtong unang magtutuo,
pun-a kami sa Imong paggiya ug pag-amoma aron mamahimo kaming mga tiil ug kamot ni Kristo sa among panahon.
Sa Ngalan sa mianhi ug miluwas kanamo, Jesu – Kristo, nag-ampo kami. Amen

There never was a sweeter melody
'Tis a melody of love

In my heart there rings a melody
There rings a melody with heaven's harmony
In my heart there rings a melody
There rings a melody of love

I love the Christ who died on Calv'ry

For He washed my sins away
He put within my heart a melody
And I know it's there to stay (Chorus)

'Twill be my endless theme in glory

With the angels I will sing
'Twill be a song with glorious harmony
When the courts of heaven ring (Chorus)

KASIGURUHAN KAN KAPATAWADA

In this ordinary surface, dear brethren, we are reminded and called to offer
hope, as we are forgiven from our iniquities and as we are loved and commissioned again. Thanks
be to God, we are restored to holiness, Amen.

♱KANTA SA PAGDAYAW “In My Heart There Rings A Melody” Hymns for the Family of God 633

I have a song that Jesus gave me

It was sent from heav'n above
There never was a sweeter melody
'Tis a melody of love

Chorus:
In my heart there rings a melody
There rings a melody with heaven's harmony
In my heart there rings a melody
There rings a melody of love

I love the Christ who died on Calv'ry

For He washed my sins away
He put within my heart a melody
And I know it's there to stay (Chorus)

'Twill be my endless theme in glory

With the angels I will sing
'Twill be a song with glorious harmony
When the courts of heaven ring (Chorus)
♱BUKAS NGA PANGAMUYO

“BRINGING GOOD NEWS OF LIGHT & HOPE TO
THE MASSES IN THESE CHANGING TIMES”
Psalm 71:17-19 & Luke 18:18-30

Good day, CYFers! In behalf of the UCCP Cosmopolitan Church in Manila Ministerial
Team and the Lowland Cavite South Manila Conference, I bring you greetings of
peace! But before I end up getting throwbacks from my CYF days, please join me in
prayer:

Let us pray: God of young people, as we seek to abide in You even in these difficult
times, allow Your spirit to be upon us in this very moment. Amen.

Today would be our second Youth Sunday amid the Pandemic. Last year, you had
been challenged to creatively celebrate it in your home sweet home. Bad news or good
news?

“GOOD NEWS”. We wanted it so badly—at first! With all the bad news and nega-vibes
around, we needed some time off to keep our sanity, right? Maybe, binge-watch a
movie? Or a TikTok and a large matcha milk tea? or “Home Zoom-ba”, getting those
six-packs? What is good news to young people like you?

The story in Luke 18 is one where what Jesus said is not good news—to the rich
young ruler. Did you know? --that there are many occasions when the gospels mention
good news, blessing, and happiness, evidently for the “really poor”? The poor man,
after death, is to be with Abraham. Zacchaeus gives half of his possessions to the
poor. God fills the hungry with good things. Jesus counsels the rich young man to give
to the poor. When giving a banquet, invite the poor in the streets. The poor widow
offered her 2 copper coins. And of course, blessed are the poor! We will meet some of
the many poor in Jesus’ time if we only read our Bibles: the beggars (Mark 10: 46);
casual workers/ laborers (Matthew 20:1-9); tenants (Matthew 21:33); slaves (Matthew
8:6); people in debt (Luke 16: 5); the poor of the land (John 7: 49). Do we still see them
in our communities today?

“Poor” in the gospels always means the poor—except for one, Matthew’s “poor in
spirit”. Unless it is qualified, the poor are the poorest, and it is qualified only once! Not
even by Jesus but by Matthew! So, whenever the gospels speak of blessedness and
good news to the poor, they are poor, and not “poor in spirit”.
In Luke, God’s plan for salvation is inclusive. God’s love and mercy are for all people
and extend especially to “the lost” within Israel, the poor and lowly, women, the
Samaritans, and the nations. Luke’s Gospel abounds with examples of Jesus’ embrace
of these groups. God’s outreach to the poor is visible in the Magnificat as Luke exalts
women who were secondary in the 1st century. Luke uniquely features Samaritans as
an exemplar of true piety and neighborliness.
Thus, we reflect that the next generation will always have a part in building God’s
Kin(g)dom.

1. GOOD NEWS! WE ARE LIGHT!

I’ve asked permission to share with you this 3- year and 10-month-old poem,
written by a CYF leader from STC-SLJ

LIWANAG
(November 25, 2018; LIRA MAE DE ROSAS)

o isang kandilang maubos man

Thank you for this. It reminds us that the young person should know better than the ruler
in the story, or the leaders of our time. The commandments this ruler was talking about
are important, but Jesus made him realize the missing links. We should always adhere to
the God who delivers our ancestors from bondage-- not the little gods who make us
suffer. We shall not let it pass when innocent youth leaders got killed, just like CYF
Juancho Sanchez of the UCCP Balete in Tarlac, (MNC-SLJ) Hacienda Luisita, November
16, 2004, 17 years ago. He was a victim, helping the poor farmers to fight for their rights
to own land. We shall not allow stealing—especially those in power stealing from the poor
for selfish gains. We shall not bear false witness, but see? A lot of trumped-up charges
have been raised to silence those who voice out for the rest-- our own UCCP Clergy,
Pastors Daniel Balucio, Benjie Gomez, and Nathaniel Valiente to name a few. Those who
commit their lives to the mission of Jesus are harassed, detained, or silenced forever.

But Youth, you shall believe in yourself and the next generation, that you can carry and
share the light that will change people's lives. That light needs to be seen even from afar--
to be boldly shared so that everyone might see that God is good.

2. GOOD NEWS! WE ARE HOPE TO THE MASSES!

Why do you think our people still live in poverty & oppression? Jesus already debunked
through his life and teachings the backward notions that the poor are poor because of
their sins and because of “divine disposition”. Jesus’ proclamation of good news, quoted
from Isaiah 61: 1, meaning the “anawim” or the "really poor". In all the other texts that
Isaiah mentioned “anawim”, he also spoke of justice, liberation, and joy, as it means “poor
and oppressed”, due to systemic economic poverty and neglect by leaders. That’s why
the powerful are threatened at the birth of Community Pantries and all forms of
“Bayanihan” that arose out of a crisis. It signified national resistance to hunger,
indifference, and neglect. There is always hope when we help each other. We have hope
if we are in this together. Nobody should be left out in this Pandemic. There is hope—
especially with the younger next generations who will partner with all other sectors in
advancing the Good News.

As the UCCP Statement of Faith says: “We affirm Jesus’ “good news” as “the coming of
the kingdom of God”. We believe God is at work, to make each person a new being in
Christ, and the whole world, God's Kingdom-- in which love, justice, and peace prevail.
The Kingdom of God is present: Where faith in Jesus Christ is shared, where healing is
given to the sick, where food is given to the hungry, where light is given to the blind, and
where liberty is given to the captive and oppressed.
The church shall continue serving its purpose, in days of celebration and days of
desperation-- when thousands lost their jobs, their loved ones, and the very means to
survive. The church is most needed when our government isn’t geared enough to protect
our youth when laws aren’t responsive to the call of the times, when health care isn’t
accessible, when violence is normalized, and when public participation is demonized.

Did you know that in Article II of the CYF Constitution, the Declaration of Principles,
Section 4, it is stated that the “CYF lives its life in the mission of Luke 4: 18-19”? That is
very important! So what do we do as CYF?

We extend our humanity to the most in need of our service. Why? Because we are able!
And because we should! “Bringing” the good news involves action, decision, and
commitment. I guess that explains why Jesus’ mission statement isn’t about the "dont’s",
but more of what could and should be done. Now that’s called empowerment! We are
active participants and movers in our society’s transformation. Good news has to be
experienced. There is value in waiting, but there is power in working for what we’re
waiting for! We are not blind followers helplessly waiting for whatever others decide for
us. We are by all means strong and enabled. Risky? Absolutely. Harassments? Of
course! Worth it? Yes, indeed!

So, let’s have compassion-- Jesus’ response to human suffering. Let us be courageous—
get involved and fuel ourselves in mission. Makialam! Makilahok! And let us unite
ourselves—for we only overcome together. Masa ang mapagpasya!

May the spirit of peace disturb us until we partake our place in the struggle. Together in
these changing times, let our light and hope bring the Good News to those who need God
the most.

Amen.
Inputs
National Situationer in Times of Pandemic
“The People are Facing Unparalleled Crisis and Suffering”

It is a privilege to share with you the National Situation during the pandemic.

We are entering a new crossroad in the history of our country when the Filipino people will
decide the issue of ending a corrupt and sloppy regime that has plunged the country into a
more serious economic and political crisis.

The call of the times is clear: to save the country from further disaster, poverty, and
oppression.

On COVID-19 Response
The Duterte government's COVID 19 response among Southeast Asia countries is the
most disappointing and backward because it is anchored in the militarist method of
"population control", intimidation and passing on the primary responsibility of the pandemic
response to the people. The primary form of pandemic response is lockdown or limitation
of human movements. It does not expand testing, streamlined contact tracing, and raising
the capacity of the healthcare system at the national and provincial levels. The level of
testing was nailed in March-April, while the capacity of hospitals to accommodate people
infected with COVID 19, especially in the provinces, is getting exhausted.
The government hopes for the arrival of vaccines from overseas, but we are very far
behind in terms of the number of being vaccinated. The government did not immediately
close the contract for the supply of the vaccine. At this point, only a proportion of the
population who have been vaccinated (only 2.2 million have received 2 shots of the
vaccine or are fully vaccinated).
There is an increase in COVID 19 cases now in regions/provinces outside NCR Plus. The
positivity rate is very high in some regions, while the COVID 19 test is very low. This
means that other victims of the disease are not traced, have close contacts, and are not
placed in quarantine and curb the spread of the disease. Critical areas that need to be
guarded are the provinces of Visayas and Mindanao.
The COVID 19 crisis will continue in the second half of the year. It is unlikely to see a
significant change in the prevailing situation until the end of 2021. The spread of the Delta
variant said to be more contagious, is now being monitored. This is said to be caused by a
surge of cases in other countries such as India, Indonesia as well as in the UK.
On Philippine Economy
The Philippine economy has suffered due to the implementation of the long lockdown and
the lack of significant assistance to the people. The economy will not fully recover this year
as it re-enforced a lockdown in the second quarter of 2021. The number of unemployed has
further increased, which on official records is over 4 million, while in the SWS it is at 12
million. The government has not given priority to meaningful assistance to the people,
especially those who lost their jobs due to the pandemic. Finance Secretary Dominguez
recently admitted that there is no funding for Bayanihan 3. Bayanihan 2, on the other hand,
expired before the P9 billion that should have been allocated for the pandemic response
was spent.

On Church Attacks and Repression

The government has given more priority to the counter-insurgency program, infrastructure
projects, and opening up the economy to foreigners.
The government is carrying out the most intense and all-around repression due to the US-
inspired counter-insurgency doctrine of the “whole of nation approach”. President Duterte
formed the NTF-ELCAC to mobilize the entire bureaucracy for a counter-insurgency
program that targets and victimizes especially unarmed activists and civilian communities.
The military continues to use questionable search warrants as a result of fabricated
witnesses, conspiracy with judges and some LGUs. The search warrant will be used as a
legal basis to enter a home or office to plant fake gun and explosive evidences, which in turn
will serve as a pretext for the arrest of their target people. Search operations and the filing of
fabricated cases have not stopped, especially against the activists, even our church leaders
and church workers of UCCP.

Our Response as UCCP

Let me include the response of our Church through a Pastoral statement issued by the
Council of Bishops on 14 July 2021, “Let us Stand against Repression and Uphold Human
Rights”
The United Church of Christ in the Philippines is once again raising its prophetic voice given
the recent cases of political repression of the Church workers. As Bishops of the Church, we
are saddened and alarmed at the arrest and incarceration of Rev. Nathaniel Vallente from
the Bohol Conference and Pastor Benjie Gomez from the District Conference of Northern
Zamboanga.

They are an addition to not less than 196 victims of red-tagging and image-shaming of
church leaders. Aside from this, 226 cases of human rights violations have been recorded
by our Church since 2016. In this number, some were extrajudicially killed like Pastor
Perfecto Hoyle, Rev. Ernesto “Tata” Estrella, and Mr. Rico Antanoy.
We deplore the State’s repression and curtailment of the right to life, self-expression, and civil
liberties of Church people. The State has the moral responsibility to protect the life of its citizens,
but it operates counter to its constitutional mandate. It should have been instituting social
justice, ensure equal access to social services, and provision of decent jobs for people to live
decent lives. We have witnessed how the State through the present dispensation systematically
stifled people’s right to life and right to basic social services especially when the Covid19
Pandemic impacted the nation since March 2020. Millions of families who live on subsistence
wages or living in a hand-to-mouth existence were out of jobs or lose their means of livelihood.
This reality has not prevented the Church from providing support to the people in distress
because of the lockdown of villages, towns, and cities. In an economically depressed situation,
the State impeded people’s rights to gainful employment. These are abominable acts of the
present Duterte government.

In these challenging times, the Church stands with the biblical prophetic witness and echoes the
clamor of prophet Amos in 5: 12-15a:
For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. Some oppress the innocent
and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts. Therefore, the prudent keep quiet
in such times, for the times are evil. Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God
Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the
courts.

Moreover, we emphasize the Church’s principles on respect and protection of human rights,
based in the UCCP Constitution and By-Laws, Article II, Section 11, which states:

In accordance with the biblical understanding that all persons are created in the image of God,
the Church affirms and upholds the inviolability of the rights of persons as reflected in the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other agreements on human rights, the international
covenants on economic, social and cultural rights and civil and political rights, . . .
Therefore, we call on the State institutions: Stop repression and persecution of the Church,
defund NTF ELCAC, release funds for economic support or “ayuda” to those adversely affected
by the Pandemic, and make vaccination available for free to the people.

We call on the State authorities to let justice flow like a river and never-ending stream by freeing
from illegal detention, Pastor Jimmy Teves and 2 UCCP members, Pastor Benjie Gomez and
Rev. Nathaniel “Dodo” Vallente! Hands off on our church leaders!
We call on the Church Workers and the laity: Be on guard, strengthen our local churches, equip
ourselves and our members with the armor of prophetic faith, and in an organized manner
appropriately respond to the challenges of defending human rights and civil liberties of the
people.

We call on the entire UCCP faith communities to unite and speak out to break the silence. Let
us STAND AGAINST STATE REPRESSION and UPHOLD OUR PROPHETIC FAITH!
Voters’ Education

More than a year has passed since the first case of Covid-19 in the Philippines. More than
one million have been confirmed cases of COVID 19 and the country remains to have the
second-highest mortality rate in the ASEAN. There is a grave effect of the pandemic in our
economy, jobs, livelihood, and education for the youth. It gets worsened by the lack of
comprehensive medical and socio-economic solutions by the government. Aid to the broad
poor remains elusive.

For 2022, we will choose our next leaders. They will have a significant role in forwarding
and promulgating laws for the countrymen, especially towards recovery. More than ever,
there needs to be active participation among the youth and citizens of the country in
asserting genuine calls for officials who are seeking office. Thus, we call on eligible young
people to register and for all citizens to participate in the coming 2022 elections.

Young people need to register and participate in the election of officials for their voices to
be heard and internalized by the newly elected public officials, who will be entrusted with
power and public funds, to effectively govern and protect the interests of the many.

The Philippines is facing a deep crisis in health, livelihood, education, and rights. It is
because of the continued state abandonment and criminal neglect of many who are
currently holding office.

Yet despite failed governance, many Filipinos do not give up and see the strength of
collective action. Many initiatives, such as community pantries, educational activities, and
alternative learning schools, have sprung up with the help of the downtrodden to ease
burdens.

While many are practicing the Bayanihan spirit, our full recovery remains elusive because
of the pandemic and the lack of effective actions from the national government, which at
the same time, has control over the country’s funds and resources.

We now ask: Do we want to prolong our Calvary? What do we want for the future of the
country? Who should be the next leader?
For 2022, do we want to continue failed, corrupt, harmful, and militaristic Covid-19
response? The worsening crisis in livelihood and economy? Crisis in learning and the
situation of education in the country? Worsening human rights situation and surrender of our
national sovereignty? We are plagued by a society that is dominated by the foreign and local
elite, landlords in the countryside, and systemic government corruption.

Now, who is the Filipino youth? According to RA 8044, a Filipino may be considered youth if
s/he is within the age of 15-30. Through this, about a third of Filipinos are youth. The
Philippines is one of the countries in the world with the youngest population—the median
age of Filipinos is 23 years old, way lower than the 31 median age around the world.
According to the data of the government, 25 million youth are eligible to vote for the next
elections.

The Filipino youth are more open to new and progressive ideas compared to older
generations. That is why the youth are being coveted either by the minority ruling class or
the broad oppressed masses because the youth will either continue or change the prevailing
rotten system in our society.

The youth are also active physically and mentally. They are interested in many hobbies and
have the time to spend among other activities. To add, they are also creative and think
critically, and generally more optimistic compared to older generations. These will be truly
positive characteristics if the youth will commit their God-given talents towards the service of
God and His people. This is how the youth truly becomes the “hope of the nation”.

In a time of spiraling crisis in our economy, politics, environment, education, and many
more, the youth are ready to act and be organized for collective struggles. We have been
witnessed in how the past few years, the youth have had groundbreaking roles around the
world among protests and other actions against tyranny and destruction of the environment,
and for community organizing, seeking a life that is just and full not only for today but
especially for the next generations. We have the likes of Greta Thunberg, Joshua Wong,
and various youth leaders around the Philippines who are carrying the advocacies of the
“anawim”.

The youth are found in every sector of society. As most of the Filipinos belong to the basic
masses, most of the youth also face the sufferings experienced by being part of the working,
peasant, or urban poor. Many are also part of other marginalized sectors: women and
LGBT+, national minorities, victims of disasters, the differently-abled youth, those affected
by armed conflict, youth who are forced into dangerous situations, etc. Millions have also
been reported as out-of-school youth during the pandemic.
For those aged 15-24, one out of four are not studying/working. The same age of youth
composes of 46% of the unemployed in the country as of April 2018. Even those who
graduated from college find it hard to be employed in a stable job, as 36% of those
unemployed come from college graduates. The youth unemployment rate rose to 22.4% last
July 2020, compared to the general unemployment rate of 10% last July 2019.

Among democratic countries, there are regular elections to elect representatives in the
government. They are expected to lead and carry the campaigns of the people that will be
carried out as public laws and policies.

According to Article V of the Constitution, Filipinos 18 and above are eligible to vote. There
is no discrimination according to educational standing, status in life, and beliefs.
To uphold democracy, elections are rested upon the capacity of the citizens to be free,
decisive, and wise in choosing candidates. Citizens are also deeply encouraged to
participate in many other social activities to voice out social issues and solutions.

Elections are seen as one of the steps in our social participation to uphold change systems
in the Philippines. In an election, there should be enough choices for the citizens for them to
be able to choose who will be their leaders or representatives. It can be done in a clean,
peaceful, and honest way.

Part of clean and honest elections is to follow policies and reminders to ensure equitable
participation for all. Ideally, the campaign should not be big-budgeted. The public funds and
offices should not be used for campaign purposes. There should not be black propaganda,
red-tagging, harassment, violence, and other forms of attacks.

In the Philippines, many issues should be tackled and acted upon to have truly democratic
elections. Among these are (1) elections violations by candidates like vote-buying, law-
breaking, use of violence and intimidation to force people to vote for a specific candidate; (2)
use of large funds for elections that are unfair to many honest-to-goodness candidates and
are ways for massive corporations to ensure their elite and unpatriotic interests; (3) cheating
that can also happen despite automated elections; (4) political dynasties that make elections
a family business and puts an illusion of choice among the people; (5) turncoatism
(balimbing) which makes people question if there are legitimate political parties in the
countries, exposes lack of principles among parties, and have become expressions of being
on the side of the top landgrabbers, corporations, and /or syndicates in the country; (6) fake
Partylists that are run by political dynasties themselves that represent the interests of big
businesses and landlords and forward anti-people policies that is contrary to the ideal role of
Partylists of becoming voices of marginalized voices; and (7) voter turnout in which last
2019 midterm elections, 26% or 14 million did not vote.
Aside from those mentioned above, there are also talks regarding Charter Change and term
extension. There have been many presidents who attempted to change the Constitution to
extend their rules. One of these was the former dictator Ferdinand Marcos who ruled with an
iron fist and plunged the economy for 21 years. Currently, Rodrigo Duterte and his ruling
clique have also been pushing for ways to extend his rule, including Charter Change,
“revolutionary government”, and even talks of running for the vice presidency. Charter
Change also opens the threat of 100% foreign ownership among natural resources and key
industries, which also opens up the greater influence of foreigners in our elections and
government. These serve as ways to maintain and expand their influence amidst a country
deeply affected by its own failed pandemic and education response.

If the youth are united, they will have a significant effect on elections and other civic activities.
According to COMELEC, there are at least 62 million Filipinos who are part of the registered
voters for 2022, where 25 million (40%) are youth.

Including this is about 4 million first-time voters. As of April 15, 2021, there have been only
about 1.6 million new voters. That is why we must encourage more youth to register their
vote and voices for the upcoming elections.

Part of the electoral campaign is to carry forward the crosses that the Filipinos face. Through
election campaigns, people may assert peace and mutual edification. That is why issues of
the youth and citizens must be front and center as standard in our process of choosing
candidates.

Aside from making sure that progressive candidates win, we must also aim to spread the
Good News to the youth that hope and change are possible through their participation in
action and struggle, which participation in elections is part of. We must be "fishers of the
people" to bring forth progressive and patriotic youth that will champion the aspirations of the
lost, the least, and the last.

That is why there should be an agenda that will be pushed by the youth and the people for
the upcoming 2022 elections. These include (1) safe, accessible, and quality education for
all; (2) basic social services amidst the pandemic; (3) livable jobs and wages for all; (4)
genuine agrarian reform; (5) good governance; (6) peace and end of tyranny; (7) national
sovereignty; (8) ecological stewardship; and (9) end of SOGIE-based discrimination.

For the next steps, the youth and other sectors must plan for active preparations and
participation of individuals, organizations, communities, and individuals for the upcoming
elections. They can launch voters’ registration/education networks among localities, launch
activities to ensure as many registered voters as possible, host electoral forums to scrutinize
more candidates, and many more.
The youth must also be familiar with immediate and significant issues that should be resolved
from the community level to the national level. This can provide a matrix or standard for who
should be rightfully elected. It can also contribute to pressuring national candidates to have
concrete and pro-people actions to the general calls of the Filipino people.

To summarize, the youth must wholeheartedly accept the responsibility to forward genuine,
nationalist, and democratic interests for the country. They must commit to effective
participation in elections and to serve the purpose of struggling for democratic rights. The
youth must also encourage fellow young people to register, vote wisely, and carry the cross
of their sector and the wider oppressed Filipinos. It is time for the youth to fully realize and
act on their role as the hope of the motherland.
YANA: You Are Not Alone
Let’s Talk About Mental Health

Why Mental Health

Here’s the scenario. All over the world, someone dies of suicide every 40 seconds. Dig
that! And that is pre-pandemic time. Depression is one of the leading causes of disability.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-29-year-old.[i] In the Philippines,
3.6 million Filipinos suffer from one kind of mental, neurological, and substance use
disorder,[ii] again, pre-pandemic time.

And yet, many of those suffering from mental health problems suffer in silence and
experience severe human rights violations, discrimination, and stigma. Unfortunately,
mental health is seldom discussed in the church, thinking, that everything can be solved by
faith and prayer. And those who are suffering from mental problems are stigmatized to be
lacking in faith and prayer. And this thinking adds up to mental health problems.

But what is considered a mental illness?

What is Mental Illness?

Mental illnesses are conditions that affect a person’s thinking, feeling, mood, or behavior,
such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia. Such conditions may be
occasional or long-lasting (chronic) and affect someone’s ability to relate to others and
function each day.[iii]

What is Mental Health?

Before defining mental health, let us first define health. The World Health Organization
(WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and
not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Having said this, mental health is not just
the absence of mental illness or disabilities. As WHO defines, mental health “is a state of
well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal
stresses of life, can work productively, and is able to make to make a contribution to his or
her community.
Risks Factors to Mental Health
What makes a person vulnerable to mental illness? Most of you would wonder if mental
health vulnerability is hereditary. Biological factors such as genes may be considered. But
early adverse life experiences such as trauma or a history of abuse during childhood, sexual
assault, or witnessing violence. Ongoing adverse medical conditions, such as cancer or life-
threatening disease could also factor in vulnerability to mental health. Other factors include
the use of alcohol or drugs, but I also think that the use of alcohol or drugs could be a
manifestation of mental health problems. Having few friends, loneliness or isolation are also
considered factors. Again, I think that these could also be manifestations of mental health
issues.
Is there a way of protecting ourselves from Mental health problems?

Protective Factors
Studies[i] have identified factors that have protected Filipinos from the Vicissitudes of Life
include the Filipinos’ strong faith.

Studies suggest that spiritual coping is the most common coping mechanism of Filipinos who
have experienced natural calamities. Other protective factors include Filipinos’ collectivist
orientation and a strong sense of family. During disasters, family and friends readily come
together to extend help to one another. Other protective factors are Filipinos sense of humor,
optimism and innate hopefulness, and Resourcefulness and ability to adapt. All these factors
could be maximizers to secure strong mental health.

Warning Signs of Mental Illness[ii]

There is no one easy sign that would warn us of mental health. But the following are common
signs that one is going through mental health issues among adults and adolescents:
Excessive worrying or fear
Feeling excessively sad or low
Confused thinking or problems concentrating and learning
Extreme mood changes, including uncontrollable “highs or feelings of euphoria”
Prolonged or strong feelings of irritability or anger
Avoiding friends and social activities
Difficulties in the understanding of or relating to other people.
Changes in sleeping habits or feeling tired and low energy
Changes in eating habits such as increased hunger or lack of appetite
Changes in sex drive
Difficulty perceiving reality (delusions or hallucinations, in which a person experiences
and senses things that don’t exist in objective reality)
Inability to perceive changes in one’s feelings, behavior, or personality (“lack of insight” or
anosognosia)
Overuse of substances like alcohol or drugs
Multiple physical ailments without obvious causes (such as headaches, stomach aches,
vague and ongoing “aches and pains”)
Thinking about suicide
Inability to carry out daily activities or handle daily problems and stress

Intense fear of weight gain or concern with appearance.[iii]BE SENSITIVE. IF THE

WARNING SIGNS EXIST FOR MORE THAN TWO WEEKS, HELP SHOULD BE SOUGHT.

If the symptoms persist for more than two weeks, call their attention. But you may
struggle on how to support friends or loved ones who are struggling with mental
health? Talking to that person is often the first step. This way, you can find out what is
troubling your friend and what you can do to help.

Here are eight tips for talking about mental health[i]

1. Set time aside with no distractions. It is important to provide an open and non-
judgmental space with no distraction. Please keep in mind to keep the conversation
confidential. The time and space used for this conversation should be considered as
sacred: sacred time and sacred space.
2. Let them share as much or as little as they want to. Let them lead the discussion at
their own pace. Don’t put pressure on them to tell you anything or everything. It is best to
assure your friend that you are there available to listen. Remember you have two ears,
one mouth.
3. Don’t try to diagnose or second guess their feelings. You are not a medical expert so
avoid making assumptions or readily jump to conclusions. Just be there to listen and
allow the person to express themselves on their terms.
4. Keep questions open-ended. Say, “Why don’t you tell me how you are feeling” instead
of saying “I can see you are feeling very low.” Try to keep your language neutral. And
give the person time to answer. Remember, you are not an investigator. Do not grill.
5. Talk about wellbeing. Talk about ways of De-stressing or practice self-care and ask if
they find anything helpful (exercising, having a healthy diet, getting a good night’s sleep).
6. Listen carefully to what they tell you. Repeat what they have said back to them to
ensure you have understood it. You don’t have to agree with what they are saying. Just
assure them that you are listening and that you respect their feelings.
7. Offer them help in seeking professional support and provide information on ways to do
this. Suggest seeing your pastor, a professional counselor. No need to coerce. You may also
ask if there is someone, they would you to contact.

8. Know your limits. If you believe that your friend is in immediate danger or at risk of
harming themselves, you need to take action to make sure they are safe.

REMEMBER…

#YouAreNotAlone
A person struggling would feel like they are alone in their struggle; that no one would
understand them. At times, they would feel like they are such trouble and they don’t want to
be a burden to others, not to the ones they loved. And so the tendency is to keep their
struggles to themselves until they become unbearable. And sometimes, it becomes too late
before help is made available.

It is important to assure your friends and loved ones that they are not alone in their struggles.
If you are also going through rough times, please remember #YouAreNotAlone. #HelpIsHere.
Just reach out to someone you trust: your pastor, your youth leader, your friend. Just reach
out. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

NATIONAL CYF PRESIDENT’S REPORT

AUGUST 27-30, 2021 @ UCCP NATIONAL OFFICE
Couple of years had already passed, yet we’re still caught flat-footed by the crisis brought
by Covid-19. And until now, we are facing an unprecedented global health, social and
economic emergency. Everyone is making measures to contain the impact but the effects
are merely not going to flatten the curve.

This pandemic can put us into deep realization. This is not just a pure health issue but also
an issue of Economy, Leadership, Accountability, Priority and Responsibility. We will
realize that we deserved better. A better plan of actions, better healthcare systems and
most importantly, better leaders who are brave enough to prioritize the needs of the
masses and the whole Filipino nation, accountable on what must be transpired and
responsible in protecting the rights of the common people and not just the rights of the
ruling class. The coronavirus pandemic presents us a golden opportunity to propose and
aspire for changes we need.

Joblessness, hunger, anxiety and fear --- those are some of the effects of the crisis to
majority of the common people. And we, Christians, are not exempted. Since mass
gatherings (including church activities) are prohibited, some of the churches failed to
support their workers financially because most of the members are also struggling to
survived in this pandemic. But this will not stop us in doing the mission. This pandemic
once again is an opportunity in doing the mission. As this year’s Theme says: “Bringing
Good News to the Masses in These Changing Times”, true to its principles, “We continue
to live our lives in the mission; bringing good news to the poor, giving light to the blind;
freedom for the captive and oppressed, food for the hungry and proclaiming creation’s
future” Our battle against the crisis brought by Covid-19 and compassion for the affected
is yet to continue.

Halfway of our term, we had been in a lot of adjustments. We postponed different

important activities and meetings. We are stepping in preparation for this New Normal.
Nevertheless, we will continue to serve through our programs amidst this pandemic.

These are some of the updates:

1. KAMUSTA CYF - We regularly published the annual publication of the CYF National
Executive Committee. This is the update for the Conferences as the NEC lookback on the
life and works of the organization in fulfilling God’s Mission. It is mainly compromised with
the major programs reflected in our program plan, as well as the upcoming activities
spearheaded by the jurisdictional presidents.

2. MEETINGS – I am very thankful to God that after couple of years, we got our chance
again to have our face-to-face meeting. We had our last face-to-face NEC Special Meeting
last February 7-9 in Tacloban City. On this meeting, we had our discussion and planning
about the supposedly National Youth Camp on 2021 and urgent updates from the
Committees. After this meeting, Covid-19 pandemic rose that’s why most of the meetings
from February 2020 until present are done thru video conferencing. However, we are very
blessed that this time came. Although there are limitations and restrictions, the fact that
we are meeting here personally and telling each other stories how our CYFs got through
this pandemic, we are blessed. Although this is our last Regular Meeting for our term,
special and preparatory meetings will still be follow.

3. QUARTERLY REPORTING AND MIDTERM ASSESSMENT - NEC Reporting was done

every regular meetings. Aside from that, we’re sharing short updates every Special
Meetings. Program Committees and each Juris also conducted meeting although some
are not regular for now due to nationwide crisis but we are making sure that everyone
were kept updated of the current state of the CYF.

Midterm Assessment were not thoroughly done on the second year of our term because
pandemic started. We find it hard by then to have our assessment instead we focused on
most urgent program, the COVID-19 Response Committee. Assessment are still not yet
fully done but still hoping that before this term ends, we will have our Term-End
Assessment.

4. TEAM BUILDING ACITVITY –During the CYF Special Meeting in Tacloban, after
thorough discussions and plans on supposedly NYC, we also take the chance to increase
motivation and encourage creativity, communication, and positive reinforcement through
a Team Building Headed by our adviser, Rev. Ivie Francisquete-Apole. The team
participated in different activities that breaks walls and encouraged everyone to focus on
what they have in common rather than their differences. After 2 years, tonight we will have
our team building again. May this activity increase the fire of our service as NEC. As well as
our dynamics as a team. <3

5. CYF LEADERSHIP SUMMIT AND VISITATIONS – Due to restrictions when the

pandemic started, CYF Leadership Summit and visitations were not pursued.

6. 25th NATIONAL COUNCIL MEETING – We attended the UCCP 25th National Council
Meeting last July 27-29, 2020 thru video conferencing (zoom). This particular NC Meeting
– wherein most of us are generously serving in voluntary basis – is indeed crucial and
historic as we carefully review and ratify actions pertaining to partnership deals which, no
doubt, would bring about huge and beneficial impact upon the Church, its thousands of
people and future Church Workers and to provide sustainability on its varied ministries for
at least the next 50 years.

Bringing the hope that everything will be back to normal, The 26th National Council face-
to-face Meeting will be held on October 11-15, 2021 at Shalom Hotel, Malate, Manila
anchoring our quadrennial sub-theme 2021-2022 “Bringing Good News of Light and
Hope to the Masses in these Changing Times.”

7. YOUTH POVERTY REDUCTION CHALLENGE (VILLAR SIPAG) – We tried our luck to

submit entry on YPRC (VILLAR SIPAG). The Villar SIPAG (Social Institute for Poverty
Alleviation and Governance) Foundation has acknowledged the important role of the
youth sector in significantly reducing poverty in the country and improving the lives of
many poor families. The Foundation gave due recognition to outstanding youth
organizations for their unique and innovative solutions and undertakings to address
poverty in impoverished communities.

The winners were chosen from over 150 youth organizations, composed of college
students and out of school adolescents and youth organizations aged 18 to 29 years old,
which submitted their entries for the Villar SIPAG Awards for the youth category. Thanks
be to God, we are one of the Chosen few. With the help of the team, we got our spot and
take home 100,000 pesos in cheque. With this, we thank God for this opportunity to have
an additional budget for our programs especially now that the National Youth Assembly is
fast approaching.

8. UCCP-IFI AFFIRMATION ACTIVITY – On August 25, 2021 we attended the UCCP-IFI

Reaffirmation Activity. We participated in the reaffirmation of the partnership agreement of
the 2 churches by worshipping together. We are also appointed to sit in the Partnership
Council and Youth Committee together with Ms. Laarni Robles (SEMJA CYF President),
Ms. Lira Mae De Rosas (SLJ CYF President), Mr. Jonie Ben Marasigan (NCYF CEN
Chairperson), Mrs. Faith Justice Sanchez-Angeles (NCYF ERC Chairperson) and Mr.
Joengie Enricoso (NWMJ CYF President).

9. REACTIVATING YOUTH COORDINATOR – From our discussion on previous meetings,

we had an action on activating the Youth Coordinator whom can be a great help to our
day to day affair of the CYF. And on this meeting, we will present to you later the report of
the Screening Committee held last August 24, 2021.

We only have 9 months left before our term ends, but we have still a long way to go.
Pandemic really hit us hard, there are still many programs that we need to look on. But still
remember that we are CYF. We are resilient! Pandemic or not, we will continue what’s the
CYF entrusted to us. Our service to our youth, our dedication! It’s maybe tiring and
exhausting, However, the love of God that is greater than this. We fervently pray that we
may found peace, hope and love in our hearts as we continuously sail until the end of our
term. Shalom brothers and sisters. May God be with you always!

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AND NURTURE

UPDATES FROM JANUARY – AUGUST 2021
Our God’s bountiful peace and grace be upon us!

For more than a year, different aspects of our life were greatly affected by the pandemic.
Most of our daily face to face activities were shifted into online mode, brought by strict
implementation of community quarantines in different areas of our country. This kind of
policy forbids us to conduct a mass gathering and to travel from one place to another, just
like before. Different CYF activities like Fellowships, Leadership Assemblies and the most
awaited Summer Camp were postponed for us to be safe – which caused us to miss those
activities that we are used to.

With this kind of situation, our approaches and methodologies in implementing our
programs should be responsive to the current needs of our organization, Church and
society. Instead of stopping in living out our mission, our 21st century skills should be
maximized and to adapt in the continuous process of change and development.

In reality, the Committee on Christian Education and Nurture was greatly challenged also
to implement our programs in this time of pandemic. However, the collective efforts and
valuable contributions of the National CEN Expanded Committee was uttered.

C. National Youth Activities

C.1 Constitutional Assembly

Based on the previous meetings of the Constitutional Committee, the proposed
amendments for the CYF Constitution and By-laws will be presented to the last regular
meeting of the National Executive Committee before sending it to the Conference CYF
Assemblies for further study. However, due to the unavailability of some of the proposed
amendments and being unable to convene the concerned committee, the initial plan is
subject to changed.

C.2 National Youth Camp

Last ecclesial year 2020-2021, the Core Group for the National Youth Camp primarily
composed by the CEN members conceptualized the whole program content of the said
activity. It was also presented during the 3rd Regular Meeting of the CYF NEC held at
Tacloban City.
However, the number of individuals directly affected by the pandemic continue to rise and
strict implementation of community quarantine was observed. That’s why we conducted a
survey for all the Conference CYF regarding the conduct of our National Youth Camp.
Majority of the conferences ask to postpone the said activity and to conduct it by
integrating it to the upcoming National Youth Assembly.
With the use of the survey result, the said activity was postponed.

C.3 National Youth Assembly

Originally the 11th National Youth Assembly should be conducted at/hosted by the West
Visayas Jurisdiction or East Visayas Jurisdiction. However, the venue of the said activity
will also depend on the venue of the UCCP’s General Assembly since most of our
delegates are also delegates for the UCCP GA. The status of the pandemic and travel
restrictions should be also considered.

D. Other Programs/Activities

D.1 Youth Bible Study Guide

For almost two quadrennium, we longed to publish the Youth Bible Study
Guide which was first facilitated by the CYF NCEN Committee 2014 – 2018. It
was originally composed of 52 lessons which will be used once a week during
the Bible Study Sessions of the local CYF.
We waited for so long for us to received the write ups from our volunteer
writers. The committee also tried to assign the lessons to its members, but it
was not also accomplished since everyone is still adapting to the new
situation and knowledge on theology was limited.
With this, the committee decided to publish the available write ups which will
be used at least once per month;
1. Understanding the Self
2. Status Ko!

D.2 FB Frame on Pride Month 2021

In solidarity to the Pride Month Celebration last June 2021, the Christian
Education and Nurture Committee published an FB Frame

“As we radiantly celebrate this

year's Pride Month, let us be
reminded to stand and live in
solidarity with our LGBTQI+
siblings.

They have been bullied by

conservatives, judged and
discriminated. They have lived
in anguish because of stigma
and double standards set by
the oppressive systems that
foster disrespect and rejection.

As members of the Christian

Youth Fellowship, let us
continuously affirm the UCCP
Statement approved during the
General Assembly in 2014
asking us to “let grace be total!”

We call for equality and justice.

We call for the elimination of
stigma, prejudice and
discrimination!

Recommendation/s;
1. To prioritize the 11th National Youth Assembly in our incoming activity this
Summer since the Constitutional Committee is not yet prepared and there is a
possibility that restrictions still exist during this period

Context:
According to the approved actions of the National Youth Assembly and by the
Constitutional Committee, there will be a Constitutional Assembly for the
amendments to the current Constitution and By-laws of the CYF
Our survey results last year for the conferences resulted to postpone the
National Youth Camp and integrate it in the National Youth Assembly.

As I end up our last report for the last regular meeting of the CYF National
Executive Committee, I would like to grab this opportunity to thank our Church
leaders, church workers, fellow youth leaders and members of the CYF. We
experienced hardships and disappointments while we serve. We hear several
goodbyes in the midst of different challenges. But most importantly, we
continuously learn and we didn’t fail to stand up in every prostration by lending
our hands to each other. We serve as paddle of one another as we sail the different
waves of the seas of our journey.

To all CYF’ers who are listening or reading this, maybe some of you will be our
future leaders for the next quadrennium, I would like to share the lesson I learned
from Bishop Erme Camba’s message during the UCCP IFI Reiteration of
Partnership Agreement… “we are tigers that roar, not just cats that meow” in being
the voice to the voiceless, as part of our mission as Christians.

This insight and experiences will be forever cherished! Padayon CYF!

CSRD REPORT
4TH REGULAR MEETING ( AUGUST 27-31, 2021)
Sisters and brothers in Christ good day! In these very challenging times, under this new
normal situation and the rampant killings and human rights violations both in church and
society, we may become dismayed, prostrating, deteriorating and out of focus in our
direction. But do not be discouraged, do not be weak, be optimistic because God will be
our compass and make things clear for us and has its own way to overcome all these
challenges. And, perhaps everyone will have our own bitter experiences amidst these
pandemic. All of these can be an eye-opener for a bigger responsibility to be carried out
for without these, the loving heart we have for God will not grow stronger and we will not
bear much and good fruits.

Greetings with love and peace to my dear fellow beloved youth.

On behalf of the National Christian Youth Fellowship – Christian Stewardship and

Resource Development Committee, we would like to express our profound greetings and
heartfelt to everyone! Let us continue our programs amidst this pandemic. Here are the
reports of CSRD Committee:

A. 25% Youth Sunday Offering Share (YSO)

1. One of the responsibilities of CSRD Committee is to collect 25% of the Youth Sunday
Offering. However, only 2 conferences were submitted their Youth Sunday Offering
last Youth Week Celebration 2020. We are still hoping of the remittances to those
conferences who still didn’t remit their 25% youth Sunday Offering. May this also
remind other conferences to remit any amount to support the National CYF in carrying
out its ecclesiastical programs and activities from higher to lower judicatories.

2. Campaign of 25% share was successfully posted twice on CSRD Page last August and
September 2020.
UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST IN THE PHILIPPINES

B. Membership Profiling

1. Before, we used the traditional form (hard copy) in gathering the data where each CYF
member is requested to download and fill out the form, we changed the process
instead of a traditional way, we came up with an online membership form. In this way,
it’s easy for us to gather the data and CYF members will have an easy way to fill out
the forms.
2. We had published and disseminated the Online Membership Application Form last
October 2020 in the WVJ Bohol Conference area only for a survey. This is to evaluate
the online form and the gathered data.

C. IGP
One of our goals is to strengthen the
existing fund and support various
activities of the CYF. The CSRD
Committee is now still working for the
products and services that are
sustainable, realistic and affordable. Face
masks, earrings accessories, and a book
entitled Reading the parables of Jesus
inside a jeepney by Revelation Velunta
are still available in our CYF ko Buy
Facebook page.

D. ID and Website
1. The process of the ID system is still
ongoing. We hope we can finish the
ID system as soon as possible. We will
use the online forms once we are
done on the revision of the ID’s and
this online form will be posted on
CSRD Page. We encouraged all the
CYF in each conference to fill up the
online forms for them because these
will be our basis in producing the ID’s.
UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST IN THE PHILIPPINES

2. The CYF Website is still in the process. We’re still looking for someone to focus and
work on it and need to have a specific date to finish the CYF Website.

Let us continue to support the National CYF in carrying out its ecclesiastical
programs and activities from lower to higher judicatories. From the SCRD
Committee, as we continue to pursue goals it is our prayer and encouragement to all
conferences to keep up the good work and remain committed to the whole CYF and
the Church for God and His mission

ECUMENICAL RELATIONS

COMMITTEE (ERC) UPDATES

Pandemic, typhoons, corruption, extra-judicial killings – are

the dominant words and events we could easily utter if we
are to look back the whole of 2020. These events direct us
then to relate the Kamusta CYF 2020 with questions such
as “How’s the CYF going?,” particularly the ecumenical
relations? Well, after having some reflections – we take on
the effort that our programs must continue despite of these
alarming events and regardless of distance. We see the
importance of pushing through with our programs as
planned and contextualized with the given resources we
have especially in this digitally inclined situation we are in.
Nevertheless, we can never remove the fact that as much as
we want our young people to engage in our programs
digitally, vast majority of them and even the young people
all over the country do not have the same opportunities of
accessing internet, or finances for mobile data to attend
such online gatherings. Thus, it is very much imperative to
always bear in mind that while we keep on educating the
youth through any kind of platform from online to
traditional way, they must understand that this a task . A
task we commit to intentionally reaching them out for them
to have the kind of opportunities be felt and experienced
by everyone, every young people. It is very much important
to note that our ministry, being true to our faith and
principle, is wholistic because indeed “the CYF exists for
the service of the youth in particular and of the people in
general, all for the glory of God.” The spirit of ecumenism is
very vital in the ministry of the youth, with or without the
pandemic, we continue to serve inside and outside of our
church, we cross beyond borders because as what John
Wesley quoted “the world is my parish.” And so, we are
sharing here what the committee has done so far for the
past five (5) months after the release of the Youth Week
Celebration Guide 2020.

EkYouth Serye, First Episode

EkYouth Serye is an ecumenical youth webinar, the first
episode was held last September 5, 2020 centering on
“Introduction to Ecumenism.” Jurisdictional Area and
Conference CYF leaders attended the said online
gathering. One of the goals of such is to help our young
leaders to have a deeper understanding on ecumenism
and will serve as their guide in initiating programs and
partnerships in their respective localities.

We would like to extend our full appreciation to Bishop Reuel Marigza who served as
keynote speaker in introducing ecumenism as well as to the following former CYF Leaders,
who not only preached ecumenism but serve as a living example in pursuit of Christian unity:
Mrs. Corazon Tabing-Reyes, Mrs. Shalom Grace Tomas- Llamzon, Dr. Rommel F. Linatoc, Mrs.
Karla Everette Mercado-Domingo, and Rev. Alfred Candid M. Jaropillo.

We would also like to thank our church officials who extended their greetings and support to
this activity: Bishop Melzar Labuntog, General Secretary; Rev. Francisco Hernando, PER Desk
and OGS Executive Secretary; Mr. Jon Dave Angeles, KKKP Chairperson; Ms. Kay Catherine
Almario, NCCP Vice Chair for Youth; Mr. Elmer Aringa, NCCP Youth Desk; and Rev. Ivie
Franciquete Apole, NCYF Chaplain.

The said EkYouth event would not be possible without the help of Ms. Janina Angeles, SLJ
(Video Editor); Mr. David Tan, MLJ (Video Editor); Ms. Lira Mae de Rosas, SLJ (Secretariat);
support from NEC Members and more importantly to the participants from all the
jurisdictions, leaders, and members of the different conferences who attended via Zoom and
Facebook live.
We are also honored to have guests from District 4 of the Pambansang Kapisanan ng
Kabataan ng IEMELIF (PPKI).

Moreover, one of the main output was the agreement of jurisdictions to conduct a re-echo or
even the next episodes of the webinar series according to their context and needs. This is
intended as the ERC shall be requesting reports from them through evaluation,
recommendation and future plans/programs of the jurisdictions, conference, local/regional
formations, to ensure that there is continuity of our programs and this will be our basis for the
next ERC planning:

Luzon (MLJ, SLJ & NLJ) – October 10, 2020

Visayas (EVJ & WVJ) – October 24, 2020
Mindanao (SEMJA & NWMJ) – November 7, 2020

As of this writing, only Mindanao has conducted such last November 30, 2020 via zoom
communications. A more detailed report of the activity will be included in SEMJA and NMJW
report. We are grateful for the leadership of both jurisdictions for organizing the said activity,
we hope to hear from other jurisdictions soon.

EkYouth Serye, Second Episode

We enjoined our youth for
another set of online
gathering in educating them
ecumenism -related course.
Among the basics was the
Orientation on Organizing
Ecumenical Youth
Formations, last November
21, 2020. The purpose of
this was to help our young
leaders be equipped on
initiating ecumenical
formations to be recognized
as official ecumenical
expressions of KKKP, as we
are all aware that KKKP has
amended its constitution.

That was why we have invited Mr. Yvid Jiro Nuay, the current KKKP Head on Organization and
Membership Committee, to be our main speaker of the said activity for the new process for the
formations to be officially organized. It was followed by a “best practice” experiences sharing from
one of the active formations, Batangas Ecumenical Youth Movement through its former Chairperson,
Mr. Jonie Ben Marasigan. The whole program was hosted by young leaders from our Youth of Iglesia
Filipina Independiente (YIFI) and Kabataang Unida Ekyumenikal, Mr. Patrick Joshua Santos and Ms.
Kay Catherine Almario, respectively. Our CYF leaders who participated felt the spirit of ecumenism
having the people we had of the activity. We thank the jurisdictions who responded to the call by
sending their participants. We are hopeful that even in the time of pandemic CYF in the grassroots
who already have ecumenical formations will continue to relate and initiate programs together with
their partner organizations and those who do not have one yet will initiate or plan ecumenical
activities soon.

Ecumenical Witness or NCCP Sunday Online Worship

A few years after the founding of the NCCP as a
Council of Churches in November, 1948, the NCCP
Executive Committee designated the 3rd Sunday of
November as NCCP Sunday or currently known as
the Ecumenical Witness Sunday Celebration. This
annual endeavor is mandated by the NCCP General
Convention. Such observance aims to promote and
popularize the NCCP and the ecumenical
movement at the grassroots level and to generate
resources (financial, human, material, spiritual) for
the Council’s continuing life, prophetic witness and
advocacies. (nccporg.com). Thus, as the youth-arm
of the UCCP and in recognition to our belonging
“ness” to the greater oikoumene, we were with our
beloved Church in celebrating the Ecumenical
Witness Sunday last November 22, 2020, adopted
and translated the NCCP theme and Bible text for
this year’s EWS: “The Faith-Caring Community in
the Midst of Pandemic,” Acts 2:43-47.
Included in the highlight in this said celebration was the figure of our Guest Speaker, Rev. Carlton “Prof.
Cobbie” Palm. Pastor Cobbie is the Director of the Justice and Peace Center of Silliman University Divinity
school in Dumaguete City, a former active youth leader in the Presbyterian Church USA and the former
Partnership Ecumenical Relations Head of the UCCP National Office. His powerful and inspiring message
was entitled “Covid na, Baha pa.” You can view the whole online worship thru this link:

One of the highlights was the
presentation of each member-
organization where each must have a
representative to explain the
organization’s stand on a given topic
related to ecumenism, society etc. For
CYF, Ms. Hiyasmine Navarro, one of our
expanded members of the ERC National
represented the CYF and the given topic
was on “Red-tagging.” The activity also
served as a bienvenida to our NCCP Youth

fully shared and offered not only to NCCP
to the rest of the member-organizations of

CYF NESTCON Online Preaching Workshop | 22 August 2020

Preaching on Youth Sunday has always been the center of the celebration across our
conference and the preparation for it starts as early as August. With the community
quarantine enacting on the country, we moved the workshop online. Utilizing the
available technology for communicating remotely. The two- day workshop was filled
with meaningful discussions of the theme “Bringing Good News to the Masses in
These Changing Times.”

Youth Week Celebration | 21-26 September 2020

The community quarantine did not hold back the CYF
NESTCON to come together and celebrate together
virtually. Using zoom and broadcasting it to Facebook
live to reach a wider audience, the Youth Week was
celebrated with a week-long series of seminars led by
the program committees of CYF NESTCON.

National Situationer
The week started with the discussion on the
national situation during the pandemic highlighting the
current state of the urban poor, national minorities,
workers, and farmers. It was led by Ate Lira Mae De
Rosas, the ERC Chairperson of CYF NESTCON.

Being resourceful in this pandemic

Personal financial problems are occurring this
pandemic especially when not everyone can go
to their work and earn for their families. The
CSRD came up with the concept on how to use
the resources available to continue earning in
these trying times. Ate Marlyn told the CYF that
resources do not need to be limited to finances
but also with talents, creativity, connections etc.

UCCP Concept of Evangelism

The CEN took the CYF back to the
basics of bringing good news to the
masses UCCP style with our very own
Concept of Evangelism. Rev. Erwin
Astejada said that UCCP’s evangelism
neither focus only inside the church nor
outside of church but a harmony of the
two. We must let ourselves inside and
outside the church.

Role of LGBT in Ecumenical Movement

The youth week was not
exclusive for CYF only. This was
also participated in by our
ecumenical friends. The art on the
left was made by Elaijah Loveria, a
youth from UMYFP. Kuya Koko of
YIFI was the speaker for the event
discussing the role of LGBT in the
ecumenical movement and vice
versa

UCCP Concept of Evangelism

Another struggle to us this
pandemic is the silent crisis in our
mental health. Ate Jireh explained
how and what could be the sources of
our anxieties today and how to
manage and cope with it. She also
reminded us that as Christians, we are
not immune to this health issue and
praying will not make it go away.

PEACETAHAN
The week-long celebration concluded with the annual concert of CYF NESTCON,
PEACETAHAN. The objective of the concert is to promote peace that is based on justice
while showcasing the God-given talents of the youth. It was participated by CYF from
different local churches around the conference speaking of peace with justice using art,
songs and compositions, poems etc. and broadcasted through Facebook live.

Iba't ibang talento, iba't ibang propesyon,

Sama-sama, tulong-tulong, kanya kanyang abilidad,

MLJ CYF REPORT

CYF NEC REGULAR MEETING (AUGUST 27-30, 2021)

Greetings of peace and grace in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
from the Middle Luzon Jurisdiction Christian Youth Fellowship. Truly our Lord
is always faithful even in this time of pandemic! The Lord is good and His love
endures forever.

For the past months, we experienced challenges in the CYF Ministry especially
when this pandemic affected almost all the activities in our Church. The CYF
officers from the Jurisdictional level and Conference level is trying hard to
adopt in the new normal set up in this time of pandemic. However, the CYF
doesn’t stop in serving the Church and His people.
The MLJ CYF continue to held their Regular Meetings via zoom, attended the
JAC Meeting and also in NEC CYF meetings. We also help the Conferences in
their different activities such as Webinar, Online Fellowship, Online
Kamustahan etc. The MLJ CYF also participated in all the activities held by the
National CYF.

Let us all do our best in doing Christ Mission in this Critical Times, hold hands
in unity and work as a family. For we all know “that all things work together for
good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His
purpose”. To Him who was, is, and is to come, be all praise and honor.

EAST VISAYAS JURISDICTION

The East Visayas Jurisdiction is the sleeping giant among
all of the juris in the country, it is composed of 4
conferences in the whole region 8 and 1conference from
Bicol region.

Since then, the officers of the juris find it hard to hold

meetings, Last May 2021, the EVJ council planned to have
joint convention at Borongan Eastern Samar, unluckily
wasn't realized because of the pandemic. Until now, the
activities of the juris were paralysed as well as the
conference wide activities, only the NORWESCON have
conducted their activities such as the regular quarterly
execom meetings, organization of the campus ministry l,
and the NORWESCON CYF CONNECT (online activity),
wherein they conducted online liking contest on different
activities, BTR and lectures were through facebook live, the
activity lasted for 1 week dated June 7-11, 2021, bearing
the theme "Bring good news of light and hope to the
masses in these changing times''. The conference officers
also conducted church visitation for those churches who
needed encouragement within the conference.
From SWLC Activities. Bible Study thru zoom every Friday.
They give updates, provide learning materials like Sunday
school guide, etc thru their facebook page. Last year,
Online Youth Week Celebration was conducted in the
conference as well as online Christmas camp.
Other conferences rely only on the local church activities.
Amidst all these crises that we have encountered, the EVJ
CYF officers are looking forward to reviving and building a
good connection as one body of Christ.

Shalom!

Peace greetings in Christ's name.

By the year 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on the

Church, as well as on the lives and well-being of children and
young people, has grown significantly. Quarantine measures
such as church closures and transportation restrictions
hampered planned events, particularly among the youth. As the
situation worsened, the Christian Youth Fellowship of the
Western Visayas ConfeArence had to postpone several of the
young people's most anticipated events, such as Vacation
Church School (VCS), Youth Week Celebration, and the Annual
Conference. The Annual Christmas Conference, held in MARICAR ANNE M. SIBUGAN
December of 2019, was our last conference activity. Secretary
Western Visayas Conference

In response to your request to send you some documentation on our conference's activities, we
are so sorry to inform you that we haven't held any activity in our conference since the pandemic
started. We were not able to hold any EXEcom meeting either.

However, there were also fellowship activities held in some circuits but we don't have any pictures.
Churches in the uplands have had little to no trouble with government monitoring, whereas
churches in the town proper and cities have been unfortunate. Some of our churches in Guimaras
and Iloilo are conducting virtual worship services to reduce member mobility, while others in
Antique and Capiz are continuing to hold Sunday Worship Services and some local church events.
However, some churches within our conference have no church gatherings for almost two months
now.

Despite what may appear to be the Conference CYF's hesitant decision, local and circuit efforts
were launched, following minimal health requirements and protocols, to continue the life and
ministry of the young in the face of the crisis. Some area Local Church CYF host Friday Happenings
and small group fellowships, according to reports. This is despite the fact that, in compliance with
the Municipal Inter-agency Task Force against COVID-19, the majority of WVC's six circuits have
suspended their programs for the whole year.
So far, this is all we could share. Thank you so much for keeping in touch.
We constantly pray for God's intervention on this myriad crises we are facing.
May we all remain steadfast.

In Behalf of the Conference,

Due to the current situation Juris-wide activities are limited and restricted, that is why we are
encouraged to focus more on our online conference activities and local church fellowship for
keeping the CYF updated and bonded. Below are the accomplishments of each conference:

North West Mindanao Jurisdiction

NORTH WEST MINDANAO JURISDICTION

Greetings of Peace with Justice fellow CYF!

The whole of North West Mindanao Jurisdiction CYF

extends its heartfelt felicitations to our fellow CYF in the
whole of UCCP. Like many of us and the masses in this
trying times of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we continue to
perspire in doing the good works of Christian faith,
witness, and service. The turmoil brought by the
militaristic lockdown of the Duterte government failed to
falter our common desire to continue participating in the
faithful work of doing mission.

At the height of the pandemic health crisis and worsening

lockdown situation, the conference CYF already made
strategies that will allow them to continue their activities
using alternative means and platform, even though this
requires them to officially postpone scheduled plans and
activities and start experimenting with new means and
materials including social media. Also, as expected, one of
the disadvantages it brought is it’s inaccessibility to many
CYF who have difficulties acquiring internet services and
communication devices. This perhaps mirrors the current
burden experienced by the young people in the online
classes. But it surely did not prevent the local CYF and
conference CYF from becoming critical and creative during
this situation. We are always in the desire to respond
accordingly.
The learnings we have acquired from the training and activities before the pandemic lockdown motivated us to
pursue activities that will best show the relevance of our faith to the current situation and context of our church
work. That is why we began our virtual activities on topics that will help us understand the pandemic situation and
the spirituality that we must show to face the difficulties and challenges it poses. These activities invites the young
people to carefully see the pandemic without covering the worsening national situation, most particularly the
mismanagement of the state to the health response and the propagating of militaristic response that victimizes the
poor and the hungry during the lockdown period. Realizing that all of it requires a spirituality that recognizes the
prophetic role of the church to shake the powers-that-be, and remind them of their duty to serve the poor and
oppressed, with a challenge to the youth to participate.

The Conference CYF continues to make Virtual activities,

Social media events and creatives. Some were able to do
live streaming through facebook.com and youtube.com,
allowing more participants to enter easily despite the
limited mobile data or internet services. Also, like many
conferences, our active interest in the latest trends and
technology enable us to assist the needs of the church to
maximize these alternative means of making activities.

As the lockdown situation loosened, other circuit CYF and

local CYF saw the opportunity to initiate local gatherings,
particularly to areas where
internet services are
unavailable. They do this
while following the required
health protocols and
maximizing the available
materials that are saved
online. Below are some of the
initiatives made by different
Conference CYF.

To continue our learnings in Christian Education

we sought the need to conduct series of forums
and topics. This was made through a monthly
Virtual Fellowship that is participated by all of the
conference CYF. We called it “kumustahay” to
promote the an environment that desires to
connect the CYF from other conferences and
share their regular news and updates from their
locale. In this “get-together” session also comes
with topics that spread awareness on the
different issues the church is facing today, and
topics that sparks the interest of the youth in
doing evangelism, discipleship, stewardship,
advocacy work, and many more.

Additionally, we are able to attend many discussions on topics that encourage the youth to explore
different Ecumenical understandings. This was made in partnership and coordination with partners like
One Voice Youth, Kalipunan ng Kristiyanong Kabataan sa Pilipinas(KKKP), MOCABULA Youth, Philippine
Ecumenical Peace Platform (PEPP), Ecumenical Bishops Forum(EBF), and many more.

After a significant year/time of experiencing many new things during the height of the pandemic, we realize
that there are many things we are able to overcome and explore. That is why before the coming of the New
E.Y. 2021-22, we concluded an assessment meeting and determined the next huge steps we can consider to
continue our ministry as a jurisdiction. We offer the following realization hoping to spark interests and
thoughts in organizing activities and our fellow youth.

Finally, we pray the same prayer of Hope and Light in this pandemic times. The prayer that we all utter
as we continue to finish the task in our ministry particularly in this quadrennium. May this sharing
contribute a little to the growing ministry of our faithful organization. May us, the young people, the
CYF of our beloved UCCP, continue to reach out to the world and serve the least of the lost and the
last. All for his GOD’s glory. Shalom!
