QUESTIONS:

1. How crucial it is for a person who has a medical diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus who
could not maintain his/her carbohydrate intake? and Why is it that a person who has this
kind of medical condition should maintain and monitor his/her dietary intake?

 Diabetes Mellitus is a condition where the pancreas does not produce insulin or
minimal production of insulin causing the blood sugar or glucose to abnormally
high. Carbohydrates that enter in our body are converted to glucose which
become the main source of body to have energy. Since carbohydrates become
glucose it is delicately crucial for someone who has Diabetes Mellitus to not
maintain it, because his/her pancreas could not control its glucose to increase
abnormally due to lack of insulin production or no insulin production.

That is why maintaining and monitoring dietary intake should be strictly done
because uncontrolled high level of blood sugar will result to different
complications like kidney damage, heart problems, and etc.

2. Does the nutrition care process important in the field of nursing profession?  Why?

 Nutrition care process is very important because it plays a big role in disease
prevention, recovery from illness, and ongoing good health. A healthy diet will
help you look and feel good as well.

Since nurses are the main point of contact with patients, they must understand
the importance of nutrition basics and be able to explain the facts about healthy
food choices to their patients. Nutrition classes provide the information necessary
to sort the fact from fiction about healthy eating and pass that knowledge on to
their patients. Not only must nurses be able to explain the ins and outs of a
healthy diet, but they must also lead by example.

3. Explain the differences between monosaccharide and disaccharide as part of

the different sugars of carbohydrate.

 Monosaccharides and disaccharides comprise the smallest types of

carbohydrates. In general, they exhibit much of the same properties; such as
water solubility and a sweet taste. Both consist of only carbon, hydrogen, and
oxygen in varying proportions. Monosaccharides serve as carbohydrate
monomers; disaccharides are simply two monosaccharide units bonded together.
Though both are referred to as sugars. They still exhibit a number of differences.

4. When was the last time that you ate a lot of foods that are high in carbohydrates? and
what was that kind of food? What was your realization after digesting those large
volumes of food that has a high amount of carbohydrates?

 I ate a lot of French fries yesterday I think it was 1kg and today I ate a lot of white
rice and processed foods. I know that it is not healthy to eat those large amount
of carbs but its natural for me because we all have our cravings, but after that I
realized that if I want to be healthy I need to discipline myself and set boundaries
when it comes to the food I eat.

5. If given a chance to create a food that is healthy but high on carbohydrate, what would
that be? and do you think it is healthy enough to eat that kind of food?  Why?

 If I would be given a chance I would choose rice and microwave meals/ready

meals that is high on carbohydrates but healthy. Since we live in a busy world
where people have so much things going on, microwave meals/ ready meals is a
practical choice that I would want to create, so that people can easily cook or eat
it in a short period of time plus it is healthy.
