“Once upon a chocolate time, a long, long chocolate time ago, the golden age of
chocolate began. “ I’m sure we’ve all heard this. Seen the musical? Read the book? But, did
Willy Wonka really start the beginning of chocolate? Well, I mean, obviously not. Now that I’ve
brought it up though, you’re probably wondering how the cocoa bean actually became the
cocoa bean.
Well it all started a little like this . . .

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many, many years ago, deep in the Amazonian rainforests, lived a vast variety of forest
animals where they all lived together in harmony. They all worked together with no
discrimination, whether they were big or small, week or strong. There were jaguars, anteaters,
lemurs, tree frogs and even birds like macaws and toucans. Since, the land at this point in time
was just being formed there were no humans. But, there was Life. Life was a human-like figure
that with his mind, created time and space. He could be resembled by many as God. But,
religion or not, he was Life. Each and every day, the forest animals would hunt and find new
plants and animal species never seen before. They’d each be given their own name based on
their look or body language. For example, when they came across a small furry creature with a
hairless tail, it was named mouse because of how the name described the size and endurance
of the animal.

Life loved it here. He used to roam the rainforests daily and just take in all the wonderful
smells and feelings it gave. But something felt wrong. Something was missing from this perfect
world. He went to the community, and asked all of the animals of his thought. The animals
were confused however. Their replies were greedless. They said they had what they wanted,
and their lives were perfect. They did not want or need more.

After contemplating the consequences of what might happen after he does what he’s
about to do, Life decided to be generous and had created a treat known as Chocolate. He made

it so sweet and rich with flavor, like nothing else on the planet. With his new creation, he
headed down to the community.

He gleefully handed over his gift to the elder Jaguar. The elder, surprised, took the gift
into his hand, sniffed it and took a bite. His face was enlightened.

“What is this? It’s so fulfilling,” the elder said.

“I call it a Chocolate Bar,” Life stated. “I created it from my heart to gift you humble and
deserving creatures of this world. Please take it.” With the power invested in Life, he began
growing chocolate bar trees. They grew chocolate bars. The creatures thanked Life and
