a.What does job-skills mismatch imply about the relevance of schools to present society?

Answer: Job-skill mismatch implies that the relevance of school to present society is very
significant. Schools or other educational institutions must produce graduates with full caliber of
skills and knowledge needed in a workforce. Students should not only focus in lecture; it should
be coupled with trainings and application to improve their capabilities. It is said that one of the
causes of the prevailing unemployment in our country is job-skill mismatch and a labor-surplus
job market which implies that there is a gap between skills and knowledge provide by the
schools to what is needed in a specific industry. Given this situation, there is an urgent need to
consider current and prospective labor market requirements in curriculum development and
overall educational planning to promote greater employability of graduates. Furthermore, there is
a need to pursue the development of industry-education linkages, more effective training
delivery systems, centralized and autonomous systems of skills standardization and certification
and close coordination with various industry boards and professional associations.

b. Are schools effective agents of socialization in preparing Filipino graduates for their job
roles?

Answer: Yes, schools are effective agents of socialization in preparing Filipino graduates for
their job roles. It is one of the most important agents of socialization set up for socialization and
cultural transmission. The school is the first large-scale organization in which the child becomes
a member. The school is a miniature reflecting what goes on in the wider society. One way of
appreciating the school’s potential for socialization lies in the simple reckoning of the
youngsters' amount of time in school and school activities. The youngsters spend a significant
part of their active hours in school from morning to evening, in a day school and boarding
schools, they stay for about nine months in a year. Obviously, during this time student acquires a
lot from the teachers and fellow students. Due to this fact, the school becomes an important agent
of socialization.
