What is Sparring?
Sparring - is a form of training common to many combat sports. Although
the precise form varies, it is essentially relatively 'free-form' fighting, with
enough rules, customs, or agreements to minimize injuries.
Purpose of Sparring

Duwelo- fighting, sparring bout.
Hurado- panel of judges (Tagahatol).
Kalas- disarming of Arnis during a bout.
Laban- competition event of choreographed or pre-arranged
fighting sequence using Arnis skills.
Terminology in Arnis
Laglag- accidental dropping of stick during bout.
Largo- type o sparring designed for juniors and neophyte
practitioners; means long range.
Manlalaro--Arnis players.
Moro-Moro- a popular and spectacular stage play during the
Spanish era. The play was concerned with the wars between
Christian and Muslim complicated by the love Christian or
Muslim prince for a Muslim or Christian princess.
Solo Baston- play of Arnis using one stick.
Taliba- referee; old tagalog word for messenger or leader.
Taming- a round shaped shield, usually made of woven rattan.
