Answer the following question:

A. Give the importance of familiarizing the different parts of the court? (5pts.)

You must learn to see or familiarize the entire court in front of you in order to be a good
team player. This ability is necessary regardless of the position you play or where you are on
the court. You must continually practice your peripheral vision, or your capacity to see what is
not only directly in front of you, but also to each side of you, to enhance the skill.

B. Give at least five facilities and equipment needed in playing basketball and
discuss. (15pts.)

1. A. Playing court

Playing court - court is the playing surface, consisting of a rectangular floor, with baskets
at each end with dimensions of 28 m in length by 15 m in width measured from the inner edge
of the boundary line. In professional or organized basketball, especially when played indoors, it
is usually made out of a wood, often maple, and highly polished and completed with a 10 foot
rim. Outdoor surfaces are generally made from standard paving materials such as concrete or
asphalt. Adequate lighting - enough light to allow ease in playing and provide safety to players.

2. Backcourt

A team's backcourt consists of its team's own basket, the inbounds part of the backboard
and that part of the playing court limited by the end line behind its own basket, the sidelines and
the center line.

3. Frontcourt

A team's frontcourt consists of the opponents' basket, the inbounds part of the backboard
and that part of the playing court limited by the end line behind the opponents' basket, the
sidelines and the inner edge of the center line nearest to the opponents' basket.

4. Team bench areas

The team bench areas shall be marked outside the playing court limited by 2 lines. There
must be 16 seats available in each team bench area for the head coach, the assistant coaches,
the substitutes, the excluded players and the accompanying delegation members. Any other
persons shall be at least 2 m behind the team bench.
5. Throw-in lines

The 2 lines of 0.15 m in length shall be marked outside the playing court at the sideline
opposite the scorer’s table, with the outer edge of the lines 8.325 m from the inner edge of the
nearest end line. 12

C. What can you say about this quote “Sports do not build character. They reveal it”. (5pts.)

It's true that sports can help us reveal some of our hidden characters, but it can also
help us build a new character. I agree to the quote that “Sports do not build character. They
reveal it”. Because of my own experience, as a chess player, I was able to discover that I
am a wise and patient person when it comes in decision making and movements.
