Rudolf Von Laban

1. One of Rudolf von Laban's contributions to Physical Education in the

Philippines today is the development of a dance system for dancing for
movement, which became the foundation or base of what we have now or the
modern dance of what we have now, especially the modern dance in Europe.
Every time we developed a new choreography, a new dance, or tried to learn
a new dance, the components of Mr. Laban's system were integrated. That’s
why he considered as the "Father of Expressionist Dance."
2. Mr. Laban also developed the Labanotation, often known as kinetography
laban, which is a widely used movement notation system. Labanotation is a
method of recording human movement. He created this movement system
because of his interest in both architecture and movement. This system is all
about combining symbols to create movements, movement components
through which patterns are spelled. This system is still being developed or
used nowadays (worldwide) since many people use it to analyze movement in
sports such as swimming, ice skating, and so on. That is how influential the
Laban system has been in physical education, especially today.
3. Mr. Laban's theory of movement, which focuses specifically on the concept
of effort, is one of the works that has contributed significantly to PE today,
especially to the learners. Mr. Laban called to them as "efforts of action drive."
Mr. Laban formed four components of movement from eight types of effort,
and within those components of movement there are two elements: direct and
indirect. It is important that we understand Mr. Laban's idea since everything
has a relationship, every effort or movement has a connection that we may
apply or use as performers.
4. Mr. Laban was also the one who distinguished expressive movements and
functional movements, which has made a significant contribution to physical
education. Expressive movements are those that communicate ideas through
dancing or any other forms of artistic expression such as drama, music,
dance, and so on. We use expressive movements when we do things like
dance, develop choreography, or dance steps. Functional movement, on the
other hand, serves a purpose in helping with day-to-day tasks, such as sports
and dancing. This movement is being used to complete or fulfill an action or
task. It is important for a performer, especially we BPE students, to dance
expressively so that we can feel the dance. Expression is important in order
for us to connect with the audience and for the audience to feel connected
with us also.
5. Development of a curricular aproach, they use three domains when
teaching people to move or when teaching physical education, which will
guide us, especially the learners. The first domain is cognitive, which focuses
on intellectual skills. When we say cognitive, we mean how we think or how
the students think.  It focused in order for the students to learn. The next
domain is the Psychomotor domain, which includes physical movement,
bodily coordination, and the use of motor skills. It is more on physical
movement, which skills our requires practice and is measured in terms of
speed, procedures, distance, or techniques in execution. And lastly the
affective domain, the target of this is more on feelings and emotion of the
learner. It focuses on physical movement, which takes practice and is
measured in terms of speed, procedures, distance, or execution techniques.
Lastly, is the affective domain, which focuses on the learner's feelings and
emotions.
