EXPERIENCE

2.1 The duties and responsibilities undertaken.

The following are the duties and responsible that I had done at Mtama ward.
ADMINISTRATION ACTIVITIES
This among the activities done by the organization under control of Ward Executive Officer
( WEO) the main activity under administration is preparing budget for TLB to solve social,
economic, political and cultural problems within the district community development activities,
is another core activity carried out in the Organization by giving advice to community members
in their group such as VICOBA, SACCOS and NGOs that are therefore contributing in bringing
development within district and ensuring the collection and proper uses of the revenues of the
district.
HOUSEHOLDS INSPECTION
I conducted a routine inspection from house to house at ilala and mihogoni, mvuleni, nachui,
makonde, with our instructor purposely to detect the defects and nuisance and then I provided to
them recommendations and measures to be taken to abate those nuisance.
The following were some of the defects and nuisance noted in most of the households in two
wards in general; Poor disposal of waste water which cause pollution on storm drainage system,
lack of waste collection bins for storage of solid waste in households, grasses are too long which
provide breeding site for mosquitoes, some residential houses color fainted, lack of repair and
maintenance, toilets are defective and dirty the drainage systems are not well maintained.
Action taken

Health education was provided to all resident in ward mentioned and some resident’s notes were
served to them.
SOCIAL SERVICES PROVISION ACTIVITIES
Such as water supply security, health services and education services which the organization
makes proper budget from revenue collection ensure that they are delivered to citizen within the
district.

HOUSE HOLD TOILETS INSPECTION

During the field practical I was also assigned to inspect house hold toilets so as to determine any
nuisances which can be found in the toilets and to give advice on their standards on what they
should do to abate the nuisances.
Types of latrine I was able to inspect were Pits latrine and flushing latrine. Pit latrines are the
ones in which the feces and urine go directly into a hole in the ground while the flushing latrines
are the ones which are comprised of septic tank and soak way pit in which the flushing tanks are
required to be provided. These latrines are always located away from the main dwelling and
5
should always be located away from community water sources to prevent contamination of the
water supply. To give privacy they are usually inside a properly constructed building. However,
they are sometimes surrounded by roughly constructed walls and may not have a roof.
.

2.2 explain the new knowledge and skills gained from the duties and responsibilities
assigned.

The following are the knowledge and skills gained from duties assigned.
Due to the activities we had assigned by our instructor Mr.ntongeka we know a lot of things that
previously were not familiar to us based on environmental health discipline and other various
issues. From the different activities we did like inspection of premises like food premises,
occupational health safety management and provision of health education on dealing with
various environmental stressors such as solid wastes and liquid waste management. The
following are new knowledge we gained from those activities we did:
 I know how to control improper discharge of wastewater, this achieved due to various
inspections I did in determine the defects and nuisance together with our instructor either
house to house streets to street inspection.
 I gained knowledge on how to manage solid waste from the waste producer to the collection
point and transfer to the dumping site.
 I gained knowledge on how to conduct inspection in various Environment like house hold
Example I gain knowledge practically on how protocol are followed during carrying out an
inspection .
 Also I knowledge on construction of ecological types of toilet and pit latrine together with it
is important on environment and human activities.

The following are the new skills gained from duties assigned

 To conduct General environmental inspection

 The proper ways on how to use environment, sanitation and water to protect ourselves
from COVID 19.

 Resolving problem or to manage the conflict with the societies

 How to advice the communities: means that during field I can contributed to give people
good advice on census project which was successful conducted and hence communities
participated.

2.3 Level of accomplishment of the duty and responsibility assigned

6
Firstly contribution according to new knowledge and skill I had gained was to ensure that all
women meet the criteria of being credited by the women and Youth development fund by
being in groups.
Second contribution was to ensure that the childhood to be assisted must meet the criteria of
being living in risk and hardship environment.
Third contribution was to ensure that individuals get entrepreneurship education in groups
before being credited.

2.4 Relationship with other staff.

Away from my field supervisor I had good relationship with other staff members such as
street chairman, Village Executive office (VEO) who give me advice, support and
cooperation for any emergency case that occurred to me during field practical training.

2.5 Things enjoyed most

The following are the things that I enjoyed
 To participate in organization meetings

 Good relation with other staff

 To participate in meetings between ward office and village

2.6 Things enjoyed least

The following are the things enjoyed least.
 Household toilet inspection, this was the thing that enjoyed least this issue consume
much time also it involve much energy to walk from one house to another to inspect.

 Household inspection, due to this situation there are some people use harsh language to
talk with me so this was the thing that enjoyed least

.
 Overworking, this was the thing enjoyed least because to work for a long time without
resting hence I to be much tired.

2.7 problem, challenge experienced and how to handle

The following are the problem that experienced during field attachment
Apart from the knowledge and skills I gained during our practical training, I met some obstacles
and difficulties which in one way or another hindered me to meet some of our objectives. The
following are the challenges I met during the training:

7
 Lack of transport during field practical training (FPT), sometime a field supervisor
send me to the place such as Mvuleni, HiyariyaMoyo village which are very far from the
organization office to conduct some activities such as registering entrepreneurs groups
because the lack of transport I had to use my own money for transport in order to reach
at the place.

 Financial problem during field practical training (FPT), financial problem

become a big problem to me because I was not given any percentage of money from
the village administration that would assist me for transport, food and other uses that
required me to use money during field practical training (FPT).

 Language problem, I faced a problem of the communicating with some of the

community members because they used to communicate in their germander language
which I was not aware of them the problem lead fail to understand some community
members ideas in discussing community development activities.

 Another challenge was how to educate people or community member during

seminars sessions. The tasks which were given to me by my supervision to give or
provide to community members through meeting and seminars, in this situation most
of the community member were seen to be ignorant on how to read and write, so it
lad me to use my experience and knowledge to ensure that the community members
who were ignorant understand the concerned matter lender decision.

 Shortage of facilities like chairs, tables and so on, I Faced me when to perform
duties or responsibilities in the office because were few tool to perform duties or
responsibilities.

HOW I SOLVED THE CHALLENGES

The solution and strategies which I used in solving challenges that I met during field
practical training were as follows:-
i. Firstly for the case of financial problem.
I consulted my relatives to assist me some money to use for my own requirements
such as food, transport and other activities that required money to be done. I
sometime borrowed to my college, uesmets who were doing their field practical in the
nearby Organization in order to ensure that I complete my field practical training.

ii. Secondly for the case of illiterate community members in order to understand what
was written in the text, I used the literate community members to the texts for others
so as to make the illiterate community members get the content through hearing, this
strategy to some extent helped the illiterate people to get the communicate massage.
8
iii. Thirdly, I was associated with other staff members to educate community members
who were ignorant in order to ensure that they get a seminar which we had been given
from the field supervisor to provide to them through meeting to their streets by using
our own experience and by sharing ideas with staff members

CHAPTRE THREE

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

 The government is recommended to provide financial support to students through loans
to help them carry out their duties which required the use of money.
 Government should provide office requirements like photocopy machine and printer
which will assist students get important documents required to fulfill their duties and
responsibilities

4 Recommendation to TPSC.
 The college should consult the organization to which the students are sent if they would
provide some services like photocopy and other social services.
 Institution should find the office for students to conduct their field practical training in
