FOOTWEAR MARKET ANALYSIS

NEW DELHI
With shoe industry reaching a $790 B worth of just
exports, India alone exported 262 million non-leather pairs
of shoes in 2018 and 289 million pairs were imported. In
1950, the population of Delhi was 1,369,369.We have an
annual growth of 2.94%.
So considering today’s Delhi Population = 18 million
In the income pyramid, bottom 20% fall below poverty line, so
won't buy online,

Another 20% fall in the low income group, so we can discount

them as well.
Remaining 60% have the tendency to buy stuff online, so 60%
of 18 million is 72 lakh.

Now internet penetration in India is 15%, on an average. But in

Delhi, it is bound to be higher. Considering that we have
already removed the bottom 40% of the population, the
internet using population would be around 50% of the 72 lakh
people, which becomes 36 lakh people.
Of these 36 lakh people how many would be open to do online
transactions? around 10% = 10% of 36 lakh = 3.6 lakh

of these 3.6 lakh, how many would need shoes? On an average,

men buy 2 shoes every year and women 4 (assuming)
So, Average = (4+2)/2 = 3 per person

so, these 3.6 lakh people would buy 10.8 lakh (3.6* 3)shoes a
year.

In a single day how many shoes will be sold? -? 10.8 lakh/365

Out of this number, what % of shopping will be done on

Flipkart?
= around 30% = 30% * 10.8/365 = ~850 shoe
Lets first find out total number of shoes sold on overall .

shoes utility

1.school students(uniform shoes)

2.office employees (formals +running shoes )

3.youth (fashion)

4.old people for jogging

Delhi population : 1 crore

Age base classification:

0-18 : 25% > .25 *1 crore = 25 lacs

18-35 : 35 %> 35 lacs

35 + : 40 %> 40 lacs

In 0-18 ,not every one will go school , so just say 80% go to

school > .8*25 = 20 lacs

so there are 20 lakhs students who are school students and

college students .

so in year they are going buy at-least 1 pair shoes in a year , so

20 lac pair of shoes .

18-35 : in 35 lacs people all cannot afford buying shoes , lets say
60 % can afford shoes , .6*35 = 21 lacs

on each will have atleast one pair of shoes ,so 21 lacs shoes .

35 + : 40 lacs people , in this less margin of people are

interested in buying shoes , lets gave 80% , so 32 lacs shoes
on average ,32 +20+21= 73 lakhs shoes .

Shoes can purchase both on online and offline stores

As it is given delhi , so around 10 % people will buy shoes online

, so 10% of 73 lacs is 7.3 lacs shoes

but in online there are flip-kart, amazon, snap deal ,etc.... as

flipkart is top eCommerce site , it account 30 % contribution in
selling shoes , so 30 % of 7.3 lacs = 2.19 shoes are purchased
online through flipkart in a year .

but our question in a day

so , 1 year= 365 days ,

per day = 2.19 lakh/ 365 = 600 shoe pair
