2: Video Analysis (Genie: The feral child)

1.what have you observe of the video?


*Genie didn't go through a usual childhood where one would develop the ability to
comprehend and learn language and interaction, she remained docile and unable to
take care of herself. She spent almost her entire childhood locked in a bedroom,
isolated and abused for over a decade. this girl from California lived in a narrow room. She
had never socialized”. She looked like a child who was suffering from malnutrition because her
height and weight were under age. Physically Genie was abnormal

2.why did Genie behaves that way?


* When she was isolated, Genie was suffered from language deprivation. Nobody
spoke to her because her mother and brother were scared of her farther who was
opposed to any conversations with her. For this reason, Genie did not have the faculty
of speaking. After Genie was discovered, many little changes appeared. Not as a
normal child but step by step and slowly. That means Genie did not have the ability to
do everything by herself quickly and easily. She took time to assimilate, understand and
to practice. Genie grew up without any real contact with other humans. Her parents
didn’t teach Genie to read or speak. They didn’t even talk with their daughter. As result
she was suffering from language deprivation. Her brain wasn’t developing because
according to the text “The Civilizing of Genie” by Maya Pines, if children are not
speaking normally by the age of 12, they couldn’t speak normally after the age of 12. 

3. How important social interaction is to the formation of oneself?


Social interaction is important because it enables students to enhance their
communication skills. For effective learning to take place, there is need for proper
communication. Both verbal and nonverbal communication enables the students
to interact with others. With this regard to communication, social interaction
enables students to have high esteem upon which they communicate effectively
with their colleagues. The social interaction helps to improve the communication
skills of students by enabling them to become good listeners. Social interaction
plays an important role of enhancing the student’s interpersonal skills. It thus
enables them to get over their shyness and be in a position to exchange ideas
with others. Interpersonal skills enable the students to gain self-confidence which
in turn helps them to succeed as far as their learning is concerned the social
interaction enables student to develop positive attitude towards school in that, the
workload is discussed among the students and so the students are not
overwhelmed or bored as a result of workload problem.

4. What insight /learning you can give to parents who do things that are not
helpful to their children?

- for the parents, you influence your child's basic values, like religious values,
and issues related to her future, like educational choices. And the stronger
your relationship with your child, the more influence you'll have. That's
because your child values your good opinion, advice and support. And also
act like a parent do not abuse your child and motivate them to do good and
teach them what is right or wrong.
