Q2.

(a) REPORT : Please note that REVIEWS come under the category of REPORT
WRITING, which is Question 2 (a) in the English Language paper. This question is a
compulsory one, which means there will NOT be a choice. It carries 15 marks. The length
should be approximately 300 words.
► It is a composition based on the amplification of certain points
► ALL the points that have been given to be amplified must be used
► Student must write in THEIR OWN WORDS
► Each point could be written in a separate paragraph
► Style should be formal, as it is in newspapers. The report will be assessed on the basis of
(a) Content -amplification (b) Expression.
The last should include
• Quality of language -formal language, no slang, no colloquial expressions.
• Use of correct sentence structure. COMPLETE SENTENCES.
• Use of correct SPELLING and PUNCTUATION
• Use of PROPER PARAGRAPHS
• Credit is given for good opening/closing sentences

6. Statement of Purpose:
A Statement of Purpose is a personal statement about a person, his likes and interests, people
and incidents that have influenced him, and his plans for the future. It may contain anecdotes or
a description of his experiences. It is usually written when the person is seeking admission in an
educational institution. The purpose for doing so needs to be stated clearly. It need not just be a
collection of facts. It is therefore a chance to convince the reader that he is genuinely interested
and suitable for the course or for which he is applying.

7.Speech
The process of outlining a speech is broken down into 3 essential steps.

► defending thesis statement (a summary of what your speech is about)
► establishing credibility
►an overview and the benefit to the audience

Body:

► main ideas with supporting ideas
► examples and details

► Accurate picture of writer to be painted without telling entire life story.
► Specifics over generalities.
► Honestly. No exaggeration on details.
► A well-rounded view to be created.
► Confidence.

EXAMPLE QUESTION:
Name and address -Goals / objectives -Profile (what you are doing now)-- Summary of
qualifications (Leadership / Education and academic achievements / Honours / Sports
involvements)--Work experience/ Volunteer experience -- service to others / a project you have done
which supports your objective.

The length should be approximately 100-150 words. The proposal should include:

(i)Heading (2 Marks - at least 2 Sentences)


(ii)Statement of objective (2 Marks - at least 2 Points)
(iii)List of measures (4 Marks- 4points)
(iv)Linguistic Measures (2 Marks)

As a member of the Student Council of your school, you have been given the
responsibility of setting up a Science Club. Write a proposal in about 150 words,
stating the steps you would take to successfully establish this particular club.

Heading/Introduction: We propose to set up a Science Club in school, to foster an interest in
Science outside the classroom and introduce students to the wonders and relevance of Science in our
