1. What is Biodiversity?
 Biodiversity is the biological variety and variability of life on Earth.
2. Enumerate the 3 types of Biodiversity
 Biodiversity is a measure of variation at the genetic, species, and
ecosystem level.
3. Differentiate Population from Community
 A Population is group of organisms of the SAME species living in the
same area at the same time and sharing a common gene pool. In ecology,
the term Community refers to the populations of animals and plants that
live within a specific region under similar environmental conditions.
4. Define Biodiversity Index
 A biodiversity index is a scale of the diversity of plant and animal species
at your study site. Biodiversity is a widely used tool for estimating the
complexity, stability, and thus general health of an ecosystem.
5. Give the equation for Biodiversity Index
 The equation for Biodiversity Index is the number of species in the area ÷
total number of individuals in the area = biodiversity index

6. Define Limiting Factors.

 A limiting factor is a variable of a system that causes a noticeable change
in output or another measure of a type of system. The limiting factor is in
a pyramid shape of organisms going up from the producers to consumers
and so on.
7. Enumerate 5 Natural causes of Species Extinction
 There are five major causes of extinction: habitat loss, an introduced
species, pollution, population growth, and overconsumption.
8. Enumerate 5 Man Made Causes of Species Extinction
 Humans also cause other species to become extinct by hunting,
overharvesting, introducing invasive species to the wild, polluting, and
changing wetlands and forests to croplands and urban areas. Even the
rapid growth of the human population is causing extinction by ruining
natural habitats.
9. What is Geologic timescale
 The geologic time scale is the “calendar” for events in Earth history. It
subdivides all time into named units of abstract time called—in
descending order of duration—eons, eras, periods, epochs, and ages.
